You can fit this in somewhere if you want.

I've seen videos of POW executions that are a million times more brutal than this, and those men will be hailed as heroes in their respective countries. I mean I guarantee that no matter where you are from, your country has taken pride in killing people in the past.

Sure, we can sit here and say how horrible this video is, but at the same time, we have to sit back and think about how backwards our own thinking is. To just about everyone, there's killing that is gruesome and horrible, and killing that is not only good, but necessary. That's not right at all. Killing is killing, you should only be able to feel one way or the other about it. That's for you to digest and think about a little.

That was pretty fun and you did a good job retaining the feel of Yoshi's Island. I will say though that you need to work on the timing on the auto scrolling sections. The first one in the sky, you have to start the first moving platform at the right time, or else you have to jump to your death. Good work though.

All I'm going to ask right now is if you're any good at making NES Final Fantasy style monster sprites. I might want some help with a big project I'm helping out with.

@Daterribleppic: I was asking the original poster of this thread. Trust me, the last thing I need help with is Castlevania.

Ah, I'll post a pic of it here so you guys can seez0r.

If anyone at all is interested in doing some FF7 enemy sprites in the style of FF1-3 let me know, there's a ton of work to be done, and it would be nice to have a couple of people working on it.

No no no, you're totally misunderstanding me. This has nothing to do with Castlevania games at all. I'm good with that. I'm working on a side project to upgrade the graphics on the NES port of Final Fantasy VII, and I'm looking for people that are interested in working on it with me, so I was asking you if you wanted to be involved.

Well any amount helps a ton, do as little or as much as you want. I just kind of would like someone else doing a few of the battle sprites.

Hah, what's awesome is when he basically describes Sonic: Unleashed. Because back when it was originally posted, people probably took it as an absurd claim, never expecting it to turn in to an absurd game.

Yeah, Chill Penguin is pretty rough, I think it's because the ice blocks explode just a little bit in front of you, so you expect to be able to just jump up to avoid them, but you have to jump up and slightly forward.

Oh well, this is insanely impressive, I've been looking forward to getting to try this out for a long while now, and it's definitely worth the wait.

Sonic CD was for the add-on for Genesis/Mega Drive, that doesn't really count as a separate system.

Also I thought Sonic Adventure blew ass. The GBA/DS games are pretty good, but not up to the original series' quality.

I dunno, it was also for PC, so I mean I guess it technically counts. I've only played the PC version, but I thought it was pretty top notch.

Are you sure it's actually something in the code, and not just the fact that the PAL format uses a different amount of frames per second than NTSC?

Secondly, and a little off topic, why did Retro Gamer have to get bought out? I'll never be able to see the article featuring one of my rom hacks now...

Quick math here.

NTSC ticks at every 24th frame.
Pal ticks at the 20th frame.

NTSC uses 60 HZ
PAL uses 50HZ

60/50 = 1.2
24/20 = 1.2

The PAL ticks faster because the whole system runs slower on PAL. The end result is the same speed.

Thank you, that's exactly what I was making a poor attempt at trying to say.

I didn't even know there was a Retro Gamer magazine. Was this an online-published magazine, or was it an actual magazine? And they showed off ROM hacks in it? That's pretty neat. I wonder if there are anymore retro game magazines like this.

Retro Gamer still exists, it's just run by another company. It's a print magazine in the UK that covers nothing but Retro Gaming (obviously). The only way to get issues 1-30 (the ones before they got bought by another company) are in a digital format now. Issue 13 has a REALLY poorly written article about Rom Hacking. The only reason I was interested in the article at all is that they have a screen shot and mini-review of the first hack I ever made. Luckily last night I found... well... let's say a free way of getting my hands on issues 1-30, so I finally got to see it.
The first two pages are about rom hacking. Then they talk about pirate consoles, hacking arcade machines, and Ben Heck's portable systems.

Never really broke anything out of anger. The only time I actually broke anything was a Gamecube controller, but that was from playing Wind Waker too much. I wore out the up direction of the joystick, so now it just sort of dangles.

Wow, the graphics are pretty top notch, like the hack looks totally pretty. Are they rips, or did you make them yourself?

The new HUD is up and running for the most part. The only things that are missing are the part where it tells you what part of the castle you are in (That's going to go into that blank space above the money and heart counters) and the new smaller Double and Triple Shot icons (those will be right in between the Money and Hearts). Also, it's really buggy still, so I don't have a screenshot of it, but we have a semi-functioning map screen that comes up when the player presses select.
