Well, I started writing a short story for class and I left the end a cliffhanger, and was wondering what you guys think about it. Is it good, should I continue writing it?

Dark Silence
Cory Lynch

It's funny how ignorant the world can be, as they go about their daily lives. They're so blissfully unaware of what the future holds in store for them. But I have seen the gates of hell, and I know what the near future is to bring. “And all the parasites of the Earth will be destroyed when we grasp eternal salvation!” Those were the words the shadows spoke to me before I escaped those fiery gates, fleeing into the reality I had once known, trying to escape the inevitable. But there was no hiding from them, they were sure to keep their promise. Maybe I should start from the very beginning of this nightmare, the day I was sent to basic. I was your average eighteen year old boy, with childish dreams of fame and glory and then I was drafted. I didn't even know there was a draft, but apparently I was being sent to basic training somewhere in Nevada. I arrived at a remote desert location, and we were escorted to the most top secret military base ever created: Area 51. However, there were no aliens or conspiracies held in its underground facilities, but frighteningly enhanced military. We were trained to use Advanced Neurological Combat Suits that required surgery and painful implementation. Once basic was over, we were sent out on the mission. They had been sending out teams to other solar systems looking for habitable planets or planets rich with raw materials, using hyperspace travel. One of the teams sent back a message of emergency, stating they were torn apart by an unknown force. We were to find out what was going on and rescue them if possible.

The planet was massive, almost 20 times the size of Earth, and orbited 2 suns in a complex solar system in the outskirts of the Milky Way. It had a habitable atmosphere, like an over sized version of Earth, and seemed virtually unindustrialized. We landed 2 miles from the last known location the team transmitted from, and things seemed normal, tranquil even. We should have known it was just a little too quiet, and a little too peaceful for us to be so careless. 15 of my comrades were dead within a few seconds and chaos seemed to permeate my mind from every direction. A seemingly invisible force was tearing through my comrades with some sort of blade based weapon, blood soaking the bright green grass below their lifeless bodies. Fear and disbelief ran through my mind, through my veins. It was as though I were watching a movie, or having a bad dream, as if it just couldn't be real. But my screams fell to deaf ears; no one woke this frightened child to comfort him. I was all alone, and this was no dream. All at once, my senses seemed to rush back through my unconscious thought and they were heightened to that of a predator. Maybe this had to do with those neurological implants the military forced me to undergo, maybe it was just a primal instinct; but although I couldn't see or hear my enemy, I could sense their presence. My body flowed through combat motions as if it were liquid, falling my enemies with its vengeful torrents but never obtaining injury. Then I was alone in a patch of woods, millions of light years from home. Reality seemed to fade in and out, and I had flashbacks of my former life; of my girlfriend, of my family and friends, and at one point I thought I heard my dog barking. I saw a giant infrastructure in the distance and I knew I had to go there if I had any intentions of escaping this place alive.

I walked for what seemed like weeks before I met with any resistance. This time, however, they were visible and wore giant bulky armor, holding what seemed to be portable artillery cannons. My mind ran through different scenarios, each time I would come out the victor. The problem is that things are easier said than done, and I knew if I made just one mistake during the execution of my plan, or if I made the wrong tactical decision, I would be dead; and this is no video game, death in this realm is eternal. I knew nothing of these soldiers’ tactics or their military advantages and disadvantages. As I scouted the enemy, I saw different forms of them, there were the ones in the giant armor, seemingly very offensive in nature; there were the ones that wore little armor, and carried what looked like sniper rifles. Another variant of combat I saw was what seemed to be the ones who attacked us; they were small and had long blade-like claws extending from their hands, razor sharp teeth, and menacing red eyes. Then I heard a deep voice being projected over a loudspeaker system, “Our forefathers embarked upon a perilous quest, they were seeking the sacred item that has escaped our grasp for untold centuries, which we have now found. The prophets warned us of a powerful demon, an enemy like no other, which would vie to destroy us, so he could use the item for his own malicious gain. A regiment of ours was recently slaughtered by this demon, an evil and cowardly attack upon them as they slept! We will now use the power the ancients bestowed upon us, destroy these filthy ‘humans,’ and receive eternal salvation!” I stood in awe, I hadn’t done anything to them, and they were the ones who slaughtered my comrades, not the other way around! Why did they want to kill humans, what was the purpose for their hatred? I knew I had to engage them, and I did so despite my fear, despite my common sense reminding me it was suicidal. I threw sticky grenades at the bulky combatants to rid myself of their extreme firepower, and took out the sniper shortly thereafter. I fought for what seemed to be hours, and soon I found my self deeply enthralled in their underground complex. I needed to find out more about these radicals, and do everything within my power to stop them.

Thanks, but if I were to publish this, first of all, I'd need to write more than just this. I'll write some more, and change some things here and there that I realized when re-reading sounds kinda like Halo... (lol) I'll do this and repost. My original idea didn't involve the alien's religion or involve a WMD that they thought would bring about their salvation.... I think I know what I'll change though

Well, my pc got a virus and ceased to run windows, forcing me to reinstall and reformat my hd. Coincidentally, my SMJ rom was on there.. The only graphics set i have is the one on smwcentral, the grasslands. I'm going to start over from scratch now i guess, so my release has been pushed back for a looong time....

well, at least this lets me get rid of the music i had installed before i began (SMB3 music ) and now i get to learn how to use custom music. Maybe I'll change the story b/c my original SMJ plan was kinda dark-themed where bowser was destroying everything. That's a cool kinda theme and all... for a sci-fi fps or something, not mario Well, I guess I'll do some more pre-planning this time around and I still have my grass/jungle tileset to start things off. Actually, I only had 2 other tilesets (city and dungeon), and an underground one that used modified tiles from the city, btw. Oh, and the OW map (the part of editing I dread the most....)

all you really have to do is use the level end custom blocks (1 for normal, 1 for secret) and don't use the standard goal point (which generates the bonus points based on it's y position when mario hits it)

you could always do like I (used to) do. use rlm to unlock hacks w/ good graphics and extract the ExGFX files and palettes... Of course now I've found it better to draw my own. Using ripped graphics is stupid, because all the different graphics you rip from all these different games dont use the same graphical style, which doesnt work well for a game.

Yea i just got a psp from my friend wanting to play psp games, but more-so to explore homebrew psp like snes, genesis, and gba emus. Then i realized dammit, the firmeware is 3.51. I know that there's no way to downgrade it except for the pandora battery/memory stick downgrade combo. Problem is i (obviously) dont have a homebrew psp to do it with. I found a site detailing how to create the battery by manually cutting a pin to the eeprom, but is there a way to install the firware 1.5 update and whatever else is needed on a memory stick WITHOUT a homebrew psp?

i have a 32 mb Memory Stick Duo, i read it has to be bigger than 32 MB and less than 4 GB and has to be Memory Stick Pro Duo, is this true? and i could just connect my psp to my computer to write to the memory stick as far as that goes...

also, i found pandora easy installer, so all i need now is the actual battery. So do i actually HAVE to de-solder the pin, or can i like break it/cut it/ lift it up with tweasers/etc... ?

So I have a part time job at mcdonalds (lol) and i've been wanting to get a ps3 for some time. I finally was able to start saving money (i cant save that much because I dont really make that much to start with and bills tear it to peices.) Anyways I have about $100 or so and by my calculations, I should have enough money around the 1st of september ($535). Well thank you sony, thank you so much for fucking discontinuing any actually good ps3 models out there. Here's to hoping i can find a refurb 80 gig with backwards compatibility, memory card readers, and extra usb ports so I can have the "multimedia powerhouse" that was promised. Anyone else get screwed over by crazily assuming the MGS4 80GB sku would last more than like, a month?

I've been watching his nes reviews on youtube lately LOL they are hillarious! XD anyone else seen any of them? My personal fav is the Fri the 13th one.

"Every great game has a map screen. But being that the game is mostly side-scrolling you cant tell which direction you're going. But that's cool, it makes it more challenging! I like that! Like when you're walking left but you're really going right on the map, i love figuring that shit out!" HAHAHA

Exactly. I'm going to get an hdtv (eventually) and I want a decent ps2 picture on it. Not to mention the inconvenience if I had to buy ANOTHER ps2 (been through 2, both ending up broken because of my modding them ) and I have no place for a ps2 and those damn wires etc etc. Total inconvenience plus it would look like shit on my new tv. I guess the only thing i can do is hope a nearby gamestop will have the 60 GB or at the very least the 80 with limited BC around September. And as far as multiple SKUs go, Sony confused the average consumer. Yea, MS has had as many SKUs, but they are easier to understand, the only real difference is HD space (or lack of, but i don't even count the arcade versions lol) and Sony's have been more confusing, if only because of BC misunderstandings. Oh well, not much I can do but wait and see. If I have too, I'll go to ebay
