Books and paper will always be around because ultimately they're far cheaper than smartphones.
This reminds me of something I think about, every time I use one of those air-machine hand dryers. It's just air, so it must be better than using paper towels. But what about the energy it took to generate the electricity to run the hand dryer? Could the energy of running the hand drying machine really be less than the energy it takes to make 1.5 feet of paper towel? What about the time I spend standing around that thing, drying my hands? Couldn't it have been spent on doing something productive? Sure, phones are cool and all, but I don't see them ending the era of books anytime soon. They're too small (because they have to be portable) and they're not quite up to snuff on being intuitive enough to extinct books. |
