I've resumed work on the soundtrack for a Castlevania hack I'm doing with Skiffles.

So far I have these two done:

It Begins

The Dark Beneath

(I sequenced all of this in hex)

The game has been switched to VRC6, which is the same mapper Akumajou Densetsu uses. This also adds some technical possibilities aside from better music, but yeah.

An Acoustic Guitar + FCEUXD's Hex Editor + IMAGINATION = What I used.

You know what really angers me? That this hack is getting so much flak for the difficulty, if anyone even comments on it at all.

Hey, maybe if you do some craptastic bug ridden Super Metroid or LttP hack people would give a damn!

Anyway, this hack is definitely an example of what ROM hacking can accomplish when done by skilled and talented hackers. Something which seems to be in short supply these days *cough cough*.

Once again, nice job, and I look forward to any revisions/other hacks you two may do.

It's slowing down, though as you can see, not entirely done yet. I'm sort of being a watchdog for us.

You know, what would be awesome is if you could replace the level theme music in this hack to the Tetris Mode A music:

http://vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gameboy/Tatrisa.mid

Because, you know, it's the Borat theme afterall.

I don't think that's going to happen: All he did was alter a couple of bytes in the music data to pull of what he did, most likely by randomly changing values until it was something that wouldn't want to make you puncture your eardrums after more than 20 seconds of listening.

This puts it in the realm of Jomb-style "music hacking".

I tried everything, I tried using FCEUXD SP v1.07 (The newest version) and going to Debug and used the hex editor with the hex codes provided

I also modified the addresses useing the hex editor and finding the original address I put the modified code in, Using the ''Go here in ROM address'' button when you left-click, That part is OK. But the routine does not work!

What are you talking about? Did somebody list a routine somewhere to do this? (Knowing you, I would assume so)

I also revised it and removed opcode #60 (RTS), it does not work!

You've nullified the routine from jumping back to the original JSR call, which will cause the game to start executing what follows; this is probably nothing related to what the first subroutine is doing. What this means is that there's a 99.9% chance that you've broken the game in some way by doing this.

Also, I hope you didn't put a $00 in place of the $60, because that will make most emulators and the real NES to shit itself when it tries to execute it (NOP is what is needed to null bytes, and that is $EA).

Also: Here is the NES Palette codes for the animation:

(Start) 27 27 27 17 07 17 (End)

Codes? I hope to god you don't think this is code, as $27 isn't even a 6502 opcode.

I used 3CE45; The Tile animation starts here, The routine I put it in was the same, I expanded the animation ROM space using 20 10 9f (JSR 9F10)
Which was not enough space to put the whole ASM/HEX code in place,

I'm not going to even bother and open SMB to see what's at this address, but it seems like this is the palette data(?) you mentioned in the previous sentence.

Adding a JSR here will result in precicely one thing: Fucking the colors up, because this is DATA, not CODE. You would have to modify the routine that is reading this data to point it to another area with more room for palette definitions.

Also note that $9F10 is *ROM*, not RAM.

These are why I needed an ASM coder to do something about!

You ask people to do all kind of shit for you and are constantly reminded that it pissed people off; Whenever you keep posting shit like this I want to strangle you with my bare hands.

I got a guitar on my 15th birthday, and played obsessively for about 3 years. I slack badly anymore, though.

Here's some crap I've (poorly) written/recorded:

About a Girl (Nirvana Cover)

Promise

Shallow Breaths

Buck

I also do video game music, some of which I posted in Modern Art a few days ago.

This is probably one of the most awesome things to ever happen. I would forfeit my genitals to have seen this.

Oh, and I bet all the people whining about how sad it is that a *bird* got killed don't bat an eye when they hear about 300 people being killed in Iraq, and eat at Chik-Fil-A every week.

Also, an artist's conception of the crime scene:

Yeah, that's a pretty massive rip off.

I ordered the following last week:

Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 CPU (And before you say "But the CPU in mine is faster", read this).
2GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR2 @ 533MHz RAM
Samsung SpinPoint 400GB SATA2 HDD
EVGA GeForce 7600GT (256MB) Video Card
Sony Q170a CD & DVD+/-RW drive.
Raidmax Elite ATX-208 Case
Thermaltake 430W PSU
ATA/SATA cables.
Case Fan
19" NEC CRT
Keyboard/Mouse

Final Price (Including taxes and shipping): $640 USD.

I didn't get speakers because I use nice headphones.

Assembling a PC is stupid easy: The cost savings as demonstrated are more than enough reason to learn how to do it.

I'm 27, and I can hear them, and I was in a metal band for a few years in my teens and always blast my headphones when I listen to music on my PC (Which is basically all the time).

Then again, I can hear power lines and monitors/TVs even if there's no signal input too.

Still needs work (Vocals/Lyrics, mainly), and the recording is poor...

But it gives you the idea:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.

Yeah, this is so easy it's retarded. See, when I took keyboarding in school, we learned how to touch type: I'm guessing you people who are having problems with this are hunt 'n peck typers.

Yeah, I typed this with my eyes closed as well. Whoopty doo!

p.s. The actual phrase is "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog".

This uses every letter in the alphabet, which is why it's a typing exercise.

Eyes closed on this one too. I'm so special it hurts sometimes.

I am having a hard time making my SMB3 hack have a diffrent TSA value in question blocks, Note that i know ASM. It is hard to find in both a HEX editor or FCEUXD SP v1,07!

Wait, you "know ASM" and are stumbling over something that's beginner level, at most?

Does anyone know how to find TSA values in FECUXD SP?

Learn how to ROM hack.

Remember that you're using an emulator, which can't run all code that would be valid on a real NES due to inaccuracies in emulation.

On top of that, you're using FCEUXD, an emu that is really starting to show its age at the core. Shame it's also coupled with the best debugging environment for the NES (Or just about any system, really).

Give it a spin in Nestopia and see if it runs: It's by far the most accurate of the NES emulators at this point in time.

I typically despise Pokemon and the community that surrounds it, but I actually gave Prism a shot and found it to be a very competent and enjoyable hack.

However, I gave this "Shiny Gold" hack a spin today, and it's really a piece of shit. I could understand Zel getting slightly upset at losing that competition if it were, you know, any good, but after actually seeing it in action his reaction was fucking hilarious.

He and his "fan club" need to be forceably sterilized to prevent their mongoloid genes from spreading into the general populace.

I found No$GMB's debugger to be severely lacking: The (few) z80 hacks I've done for the GB(C) were done with a combination of Visualboy Advance (Memory poking) and BGB (Actual debugging).
