Damn, looks like I'm gonna have to make a quick fix release.
I figured out why color palettes can get corrupt since EE 2.4. This also affects background layouts. This is so stupid, I should have figured it out sooner.

Edit: here we go, EE 2.5.1 is out.

Yep. I noticed this. Thought I wasn't sure if it was because I used an unclean rom. It corrupted my rom to the point epic edit wouldn't be able to open it xD
Glad I was using another rom...

Well, I gotta say that the bowser castle and vanilla lake tracks are awesome. The chocolate island one is good, but I don't know about the other ones...They look dull IMO. However, as you mentioned they need polishing, I guess they will change.

Looks awesome! The graphics of LA DX looks good on the NES. I just finished the first game on the NES(including the 2nd round), and wanted more. So this is the answer.

Looking forward this one, best of lucks with it!

You know, one of the biggest issues I have at SMK hacking is to know how the AI treats the boost panels, in order to jump farther, like in mario circuit 2. I think is has something to do with the AI box place or position, however I have nothing to confirm that is this.

Gridattack, I ran into this problem. I had too many oil slicks on my course, and it made the characters activate the boost pads (even though they clearly drove over it) only half of the time after the first lap.

Once I removed the oil slicks, they always activated the boost tiles. Perhaps having too many 'interactive' road tiles (boost, slicks, jumpers) on the map inhibits proper activation.

Thanks, ill try it out. I have a couple of oil slicks there IIRC, but I recall the track behaved differently when I ported the tracks to another rom. Also, does this applies even if the interactive tiles are actually form the tileset, rather than the overlay? Also, may it be because I actually over placed too many boost tiles? (for the record, the track im talking about is the 4th track in This video)

Thanks anyway

Glad to see you back DharkDaiz
I must say that the air meter is an awesome new feature. And that you want to make the game like metroid with exploring sounds really awesome. Kinda like the SMB1 extra mario bros romhack.
(BTW, will Reuben remain at it is, or would you try to continue it?)

I do have one open slot for another power up though. What should it be?

A new powerup...Here are some ideas.
Spring mario to bounce high?
Some sort of anti gravity suit? You charge the power meter by running or other means and the mario can float in any direction you want for a limited amount of time?
Metal mario to be inmune to some hazards?
Shell mario? Like in NSMB.
Electric mario? Some enemies that touch mario in this form gets destroyed. Can be used to pass electrical hazards.

Only problem with this is that the Hammer Bros has used a starman and is invincible

Anyways, video demo #3:
]

I like how the exploration style is going on. Requiring to search for hidden stuff adds more replay value to the levels.

Also, one thing I liked about the original mario adventure, was the weather feature. It added a new feeling to the level, and sometimes, it even felt like a new level.
Also, it is possible for a sort of let say, of day/night feature? When a certain time passes, the level gets a new palette, to reflect the morning, noon, evening, twilight, night time? It would be awesome, like the different weather feature.

The shop progress looks awesome. Also, will you release some kind of beta at some point?

I haven't decided on releasing a demo or not. I will definitely give out private demo's, but honestly I want to limit exposure so people can enjoy all the surprises in store for this hack.

Sounds like a fair reason, but I think im going to explode waiting for 2014 x)
Anyway, I will be following this project closely. Looks awesome so far

Is the pumpkin powerup for boo mario?
Either way, the map looks awesome. Also, will you add more details to it? IMO the barren ground looks plain, or will you be using a combination of plain and detailed? (like some dots on the tile, to simulate grass)

Awesome news indeed!~ Will try the beta.
Also, as for having issues regarding space in the UI, I dont see why you have an issue. There is plenty of space to add another button, so it opens another windows, in which you will have to specify which tile has which behaviour. Or am I missing some important detail? D:

Looks awesome. Never imagined the golden leaf would grant mario that kind of power. I guess we can use it to cross gaps unpassable by the other forms of mario?

Nice effect. Somewhat like in NSMBW when you get frozen. Other than that, the palette of the ice bro looks to dark...

Change of plans: I'll skip 2.5.2 and go directly to 2.6, as I added a new feature at the last minute: a little codec tool. The point is to let advanced users decompress and recompress data, so you don't need to use Lunar Compress anymore. Also, the compression rate is better.

2.6 beta: http://stifu.fr/files/stifu/EpicEdit.zip

Feel free to report bugs and suggest improvements.

I thought of adding some kind of bookmark system, so you can pick from a list of known SMK offsets. But then I got lazy.

You know, the decompress.compress features sound nice
Now I can decompress graphics (?) and edit misc graphics.

Anyway, yay for a new version

New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe! is a full New super mario bros. hack, which is a remake of "Super Mario bros. 1" and "The Lost Levels".
The original levels have been recreated faithfully, but thats not all!

The first 5 worlds + some levels in World 7 (And one in World 6) have been expanded with custom areas.
This custom areas holds the Starcoins. But the entrances are hidden, so you will first have to find an entrance to this area in the original levels
Level style varies from New Challenges, to Retro Inspired custom areas!
The 5 cannons located in the game have been expanded, so now they are a full level, having at the end the warp cannon.
To add some more fun, the original Warpzones are there, but you must find them first! (dont worry, the original warpzone pipes will exit you near them )
As a bonus, 4 of the best Super Mario Bros. Special levels are included, hidden as extra areas!
(would have included more, but most of those levels are almost identically to SMB1 )
The bowser Jr. fights have been modified to add more challenge.

There is more, but I dont want to spoil it!

Some features
-The remakes includes all the levels from SMB1, and all the levels from TLL, including Worlds 9,A,B,C & D!
-New custom areas.
-To add the feel of the original games, both of the original retro graphics have been update to fit in with the NSMB style, while having the same look as the originals. Plus, the original theme of the original levels have been preserved!
-New BGs such as the night time have been created to help set the mood of the original game, plus that NSMB feel.
-And also, most UI suff have been changed, and the hack includes all brand new bottom screen backdrops!
-Be sure to watch the trailer for a preview of the hack

Download:

Remember, the patch will ONLY WORK on the (U) version of the ROM! Trimmed ROMs wont work!

Great trailer. I can imagine some lost levels levels will be funner to play with the new moves as they'll be less hard. I wonder if you ported the music too.

Thanks!
And definitely, its a whole new experience playing these old levels with the NSMB physics.
As for the music, is not changed (mainly because is hard to do, and changed music doesn't sound that great with the existing instruments the original midi has...)

you might wanna redo the zip if you want more people to play it. Winzip won't extract it but 7-zip will.

Thanks for pointing it out. It was originally a .rar file, but I had issues uploading it at first, so I changed the extension to .zip

But it wasnt that the issue. Now it was changed back to a .rar file.
