I thought the staff application system worked fairly well myself. We even adapted (read: shamelessly copied) it twice for mod elections at another forum, and while that only involved getting new staff members instead of a complete staff reorganization, it did it's job very well.
It should be noted than in that case, it was more of a contest between the 10 or so non-staff members on the "not totally out of the question" list, but whatever |

Not much, really, Acmlm's was the first really community I got involved with. Prior to that, the only board I had been posting at was the GameFAQs, but I never stayed at a single subforum there long enough to actually get to know people (I've later somewhat settled at the Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Origins and Classic Gaming boards, though I've never been a very active member over there).
Curerntly I'm somewhat active at 12 different boards (GameFAQs included... by "active" I mean "might check once every few days"), so I've kind of branched out a bit from there |

A friend at school introduced me to Romhacking way back in the days when Super Mario with a Penis for a Head Bros was the norm, and since I thought that the only things you could change in a rom was graphics and text, I tried googling for "final fantasy rom hack", and somehow stumbled across Acmlm's Rom Hack Domain prior to the first incarnation of the board. The site had a pretty impressive library of rom hacks more advanced than the crap I had been introduced to, so I stuck around, and visited the site about once every day to check if there had been an update. One day the board appeared, so I registered the first day, and has been around ever since. Yay.
As for this board, given that I registered before even Milly, it should be pretty obvious how I knew about it. |
