Hey again gang.
Hacking takes a long time so progress is very slow. Things are working out well though so far.

I also have a few pics for you. I'll probably have more up soon.

When you first get to Yo'ster isle, the local yoshis are on high alert since they have recently been attacked, so they're not too friendly towards the rangers.

In fact, Boshi and Yoshi want a piece of you!

Deep in the forest, there is an underground pipe system that leads to Yo'ster isle. The final pipe is guarded by a familiar piranha.

Also, here's a look at the new menu:

Hello everyone.

The editing continues with good progress. I've been trying to figure out how to make a good demo video but I can't figure it out. There's not a whole lot of things to be shown yet anyway.

Since this story takes place before the events of the original SMRPG, there will definitely references to the original game. For example, Jinx's Dojo is still around, but it isn't Jinx's Dojo; it's Boomer's. Also, there's a scene with Snifit 1 & 2 interviewing possible candidates for a 3rd snifit. There's plenty more where that came from.

Anyway, I've started on a new level called Cocoa Mountain. Here's a picture:

Here's a picture a new underground I've been working on, also:

Before he became the master chef we all know and love, Torte was a captain in Bowser's army. Along with a couple Fire Bros and his apprentice Jinx, you fight him. Here's a picture of the boss fight with them:

Before you go to Cocoa Mountain, you must seek advice from Frogfucious's Father, Frogrates, who live in a place called Choco Lake:

I'm also going to create a blog for this pretty soon. I'll probably create a link to it in my signature when I get it all set up.

Questions, comments, and new ideas are always welcome. Please don't hesitate to include your two cents.

Wow. I've never even heard of this before. 4 years you say? That's some serious work right there.
I saw the screenshots and they look pretty darn good. I'll definitely have to check this out. Nice job.

In the "dialogue" section of Lazy Shell, at the top of the editor, you can select from editing menu, normal dialogue, and other palletes. Simply select "menu" and edit the palette.
if that doesn't help, I hope this doodle helps:

Hello again everyone.
I'm still truckin' here making the hack. Today I started making a ghost house type level that's gonna be pretty sweet.
Barring any unforeseen errors of some kind, I think I can say that I am over halfway done with this hack. No screen shots today and I still can't figure out how to make a youtube video of a demo.
Just thought I'd let you guys know that I'm still working hard. Remember that any comments or questions are welcome.

I have not tried using Snex9x's video record function. Does it record in a format that is usable by Youtube?

For everyone, here's an update (sort of):
I've been spending most of the last week fixing some things up that got messed up. Almost all of the "jump to" commands in the event scripts got messed up so I had to go through them and see which ones needed fixing. Ugh... Anyway, I'm just about done with the ghost house level. More to come, don't you worry.

Hey, hey again everybody.

Progress continues on the hack, but much slower than I'd like. There has been a lot of stuff going on, some deaths in the family, school, etc. but I don't want to bore you with the details. But with Thanksgiving this week, seeing the family and whatnot, I won't be able to continue til next week.

Anyway, I'm still working on the hack, so if anyone out there thought this hack was dead or something, fear not.

No teaser pics or anything today, but I'll try to get some more soon.

Sorry for the pretty lame and disappointing update, but I didn't want to leave you all hanging.

Thanks a bunch

Still working on this gang, don't worry.
Once again, I have no screenies or anything, but I am still hard at work.

Hey again, everyone.
Just wanted to make sure none of you think I'm dead or anything.
Anyway, like the first game, this game actually ends in the Factory which is what I've been working on right now. I made the story end in the same place for teh epicness.
But this level (and the whole hack for that matter) has new boss battles, enemies, epic confrontations that never take themselves too seriously... so basically everything you've come to expect from a good Mario RPG.

I hope to get to the Alpha testing phases pretty soon here.
I'm also working on a little battle arena where you fight 1 vs 1 battles with enemies for glory and prizes. If things work out, you can fight in this arena with any ally of your choosing. That's right, folks, fighting battles withOUT Red.

Stay tuned, sports fans.
I promise that when this hack is done, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the replies, you two.
This hack completely changes the game, and that includes adding axes as each member's most powerful weapon, don't you worry about that.

Anyway, I'm pretty close to being done with this hack. Right now, I'm doing some alpha testing to make sure there's no game-nuking bugs. After I finish with that and fix problems that I may find, I'll hand it over to you, my beloved fan base, to beta test it. You know, to make sure there's no enemies that are uber powerful or weak, make sure pressing a certain button doesn't make the game explode, etc.

So please let me know if any of you would be interested in helping with beta testing.

P.S. I know I promised you guys screen shots and such, but every time I think about it, I think, "This time would better be spent working on the hack than just taking pictures of it." So that's why I haven't gotten around to it.

Good to hear your hack is working now.
But here's a pro tip for this site:
You CAN edit the topic title in your own thread. You can also edit your own posts.
To avoid cluttering this board with a new topic every time you fix something, you could just have one main topic where you update the title and opening post whenever you have a new release or a fix or something. That's what I've been doing.
I'm not trying to insult you or anything, just trying to be helpful.

I certainly hope people think this hack is mind-blowing.
I'm still testing things now, I've actually come across quite a few errors that I've had to deal with. Lazy Shell (The program, not the items) has been doing this weird thing where it changes the location of a bunch of "jump to" commands in about half of all my event scripts. Major headache. I have to manually change each single "jump to" command to the correct value. But don't give up! I wanna say I'm maybe 2/5 of the way done with my hack (add-ons and other possible fixes still pending, so give or take a bit.)

And I've been waiting to say this for awhile, but look at the number of views this thread has.
IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!

Whoa, whoa, whoa... I just re-read my last post.
Total slip of the tongue. (Wait... I'm typing. Slip of the fingers?)
In my last post, I meant to say I was 2/5 of the way done with TESTING, not 2/5 of the way done with my hack.
Apologies are in order.

Hopefully none of you were permanently scared away from this hack.
I still do hope to have it done soon. Although, I did come up for a few new ideas for weapons to add in the hack... but those shouldn't be too difficult or time consuming to implement.

Well ladies and germs, I've done a test run and I've fixed all the game critical bugs I could find. (There are some minor bugs I'm still working on)

But for now, I'm looking to hand this hack off to you, my followers, for some beta testing to find more bugs I may have missed.

If you're interested in helping test this bad boy out, please let me know and I'll email or message you the link to the hack.

While you guys are all testing this out, there are some attacks and spells and things I want to add. So even if you're testing it, there will be more to look forward to after the testing.

I've played through this game and I've had a lot of fun. There are times when you'll say, "Hey, that's pretty cool!"
Things that make you say, "What the heck did I just see?"
and still other things that make you say, "lolwut?"

If you're interested in testing please let me know. For everyone else, stay tuned for when people are done testing and I've fixed the errors they've shown me.

I've been made aware that there are several problems with the test version I've released. Some of these things are things I've already fixed but somehow got messed up.

Dear testers, this message is especially for you:
I've decided that I'm going to run through this hack myself and check and double check just about everything. For the time being, you guys are done testing. As soon as I've run through this and fixed everything I can find, I'll release this to you testers again.

Don't give up! I'm going to keep working this hack. In the words of Steve Perry, Don't Stop Believin'!

I think it'd be a good idea to record everything you fix, just so you and others know what you did.

That's a good idea and I think I will do that.
Thanks for your feedback on your testing. I will definitely look into just about everything you mentioned.
Thanks to all my testers and thanks to everyone!

I'd love to test this. but I'm afraid I can't, as I lost internet at home, and can't go on this site. no MSN either. You could just message me the link, and I could download it, put it on the USB I have, and play it at home. Would that work?

Sure, that would work fine as long as you can get back to me about errors and such. But like I said, I'm going to be running through this again by myself and fix everything I can find. When I'm ready to release test versions again, I will be sure to let you know.

Good morning, sports fans.
I'm happy to say that testing has been going well, bugs and glitches are being fixed. I even figured out what made Black's stats go so nuts. (Note to Lazy Shell users: Don't edit the stats of items labeled "Space." (That's actually "pace" with the symbol "S" in front of it) This changes the stats of some characters) I've also made changes to various enemy stats to make some battles easier, mostly to make some fights less tedious.
Looking at some of the levels, I've noticed that there are several places I haven't used. This has given me the inspiration to make a new level or two. What I put in them or what the level will do I have yet to determine. As always, stay tuned.

Hello everyone,
I haven't posted here in a while because I've been very busy. My family has recently moved which has been hectic to say the least, I had a family member pass recently, and there has been some confusion with college and work and everything.
Sorry to keep you all waiting, but that's life, you know?
Anyway, it was brought to my attention that the testing version of this game which I distributed to my testers was a bit buggy. Some of these bugs were pretty game-breaking. I'm pretty sure I've fixed nearly all of these bugs, or at the very least the game-breaking ones, and I have distributed the latest version to some testers. While they continue to test the game, I will continue to test and fix things as well.
Just have faith...
