More good news!

So after I do a few molds of sprite animations, I usually save what I have in case of errors. But once, after several backups, I noticed an error that I had not seen before. You know, one of those errors that occurs in molds that you edited a long time ago.
BUT! I loaded my most recent backup and the error mysteriously vanished of its own accord! I have no idea how this happened, but I choose not to question my good fortune.

Huzzah!

Well I've used the same ROM from 1.0 to 2.1 without any problems so I don't what to tell you.

In my ongoing sprite editing, I got a little bored and tried messing with some enemy stuff.
I figured out that the game has unused Hammer Bro Battle sprites. This has allowed me to put the Hammer Bros. as two separate boss battles with different HP, attacks, and everything. Since I had to use the Terrapin battle sprites to include Captain Torte, I had to replace the 4X Terrapin fight at the beginning with something. Enter the Hammer Bros!

Anyway, I feel like it's been awhile since I've posted a pic, so here:
Green's punches may seem far from the enemy, but you've gotta remember that everyone's attacks are a little far from the enemy in the normal version of the game. Even still, I might change it in the future if I feel so inclined.

First off, welcome to Board 2!

As far as this hack goes, most of the enemies couldn't do more than 1 damage, except the fish which could do about 10. This might be more fun if you increase all the enemies attack power. But then again, you did say this was just a preview for a hack you were working on, right? If these enemies are featured in the game at times when you have lower stats, then these are definitely great enemies.

Regarding the Lakitu discoloration, graphical errors occur if you have too many enemies in a single battle. That's why the error occurred in the last battle and not the other battles.

If you are working on a hack of this game, I'm sure I speak for a lot of people on this board when I say I'd appreciate any new info and updates you have.

I think it also has something to do with the type of enemies you have together and the physical size of the enemies. It would take some experimentation to determine which enemies work together without any problems.

Hey Waddler, have you changed the Booster battle at all in this version or is it the same as in your last version?
I ask this because there was a weird issue with the Booster fight in your last version. When I fought him I killed the snifits and the battle ended with Booster still standing there. He never attacked me.

Alright, Green is now done. Moving on to yellow next.

Ax weapons have been successfully implemented on both Red and Green.
Sticky Glove has been replaced by an ax, and Mega glove has been replaced by an ax.
For yellow I was thinking of replacing Hurly Glove with an ax. Yellow throwing Red is sort of a silly idea for an attack.

One odd thing about the ax attacks is that there is some sort of sound error I can't get around. If you time the attack correctly it makes the correct ax-slicing sound, but if you don't time the attack correctly it will play the original sound for the weapon being replaced. Mega Glove and Sticky Glove sound sorta similar so both make a kind of "BOOM" sound if you don't time it. Just pretend you're hitting the enemy with the blunt end of the ax and it'll be fine. Seriously though, if anyone knows how to fix this I would appreciate it.

I know I say this a lot, but questions, comments and new ideas for the hack, no matter what they may be, are always welcome.

Awesome!
I've played every version of your hack so far and it's like playing completely different games!
Thanks a lot, Waddler.

Well before you do that, I have found another error.
While you fixed the Booster battle, the snifits are now messed up. When you battle a single snifit and kill it, Booster's battle dialogue appears, even though he's not in the battle, and the game freezes up.

Hello again everyone.

Yellow has been progressing rather nicely. There is some sort of error with his molds that give me annoying errors every time I try to use a grid plane. But fear not. Mold tiles and tile maps seem to be relatively bug free (so far) so I've been using those instead. Yellow will probably be the longest character to edit, simply because he's bigger.

I always thought the pick-me-up was a weird item for a Mario game. As such it will be replaced by a green mushroom (that does the same thing as a pick-me-up). Should I call it a life shroom, 1up shroom, or something else? Let me know what you guys think.

The ever increasing view count for this topic tells me that there are definitely still people interested in this hack, even though nobody ever posts here except Shadic and Al2Fenrir (who has mysteriously vanished).

Remember: questions, comments, and ideas are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks for the input, guys.
I guess life shroom does sound better.
Shadic do you mean that I should give Yellow Psych Bomb? I don't think you can give characters enemy attacks so I don't know if I could give him Spritz bomb.
Actually, I thought that Psych Bomb would be a better attack for Black. It seems to fit him better. But that leaves Pink without any sort of attack spell. I could always give her one of Yellow's or something.

I might be able to edit the mecha koopa to look like a giant ax or something. If it turns out to be too big of a challenge I might not though. I guess we'll see where it goes.
It's going to take some thinking to decide how I'm going to divide up the spells. Green and Red are probably good as is. Yellow could probably stay the same. I can't really see anyone who could use Terrorize and Poison Gas better than Yellow. Pink and Black could just trade Psych Bomb and Geno Blast I suppose.

That gives me another idea. I never used Mute in the original game, and since I don't plan on having any mutable bosses, it won't be very useful in my hack. What sort of attack should I replace it with? Attack/defense booster? Status healer? Random other attack?

Sorry about the white space. Just lazy I guess. I'll do something about it from now on.
The faceplanting angles seem okay to me... maybe it'll be easier to tell when I actually start testing.

As far as the stat lowering attack, Terrorize already does that. The "Fear" status it causes lowers both attack and defense. Looking into Lazy Shell I don't know how to lower stats other than by "fear."

So it would only lower stats if they've been increased?
Awesome. Thanks for the info.

Wait, I don't quite understand. You had lazy shell 2.1, started a project, then you re-downloaded lazy shell 2.1 and it didn't work?

I've had a sudden change of heart: rather than replace Hurly Glove with an ax-throwing attack i think I'll leave Hurly Glove as is just because I think it would be funny.

I will however change the chomp attacks into an ax throwing attack. Spiked Link gets to stay though. That attack is just plain awesome.

Edit: I forgot to include another pic for you guys. I had to do an edit since you can't double post within 24 hours.

It took me awhile to find it but there is a bush with a secret hole underneath that leads to the fortress. I think it's pretty close to your house.

I have noticed a few errors with this hack as well, including the ones Chaos mentioned.

One thing is that the first dark world level doesn't seem possible. I have looked EVERYWHERE and I cannot figure out how to beat it. I looked at the level in Hyrule Magic and I still couldn't find any possible way to beat it. I had to cheat to beat it.

The secret crypt with the Cane of Byrna in a chest does not require a big key to open. I just waltzed right in and took it.

In the Ganon's Tower-ish level (The one with Ganon's music playing) There is a room where you have to send a bomb down a conveyor belt to kill a jellyfish and obtain a key. The belt is too long, however, and the bomb doesn't reach the jellyfish no matter how fast you are.

The most interesting thing happened when I was in the boat level in the dark world. I saw a chest sitting out in the open, opened it, got the map, it called me a "f***ing hacker", and crashed my game. From the looks of the text, it seems you meant to take out all of the maps in the game but you accidentally left that one in.

However, this hack is pretty awesome for what you have so far. The water level in the light world and the boat level in the dark world were purely awesome. Great designs. There are a few more levels I just can't seem to find though.

No, that's not where the hole is. This probably doesn't help very much, but I remember it was in a solitary bush near a couple of trees.

So Torin, what have you changed in this latest release?
