No worries Yami. I had virtually none of my testers ever report back to me, so you're not alone there. Either way, glad to hear that you liked it
Update: A few bugs have been brought to my attention and I am currently working on a fix for them. If anyone reading this has experienced any kind of bug or glitch (that wasn't mentioned in the readme file) please let me know. |

I do tend to agree with that guy. I liked it better when there was a massive overworld for you to explore, rather than a large overworld that blocks several parts until you get the item that allows you to move past them. I would like the idea of a newer Zelda that allows you to go anywhere you want, but would have whoever your partner is say, "You shouldn't go that way yet. Well, you can go that way, but you'll get your butt handed to you by the enemies. It's your funeral." I remember the original Zelda where I beat levels 6-8 before finding level 5. I liked the free-roaming, do whatever you want Zelda where the only stipulation was you had to save the final level for last.
Having said that, I will say that I still love every Zelda for the different things it has to offer. Unlike the author of that article, I actually enjoyed the sword's motion controls Skyward Sword had, even if they were somewhat predictable with the "I block horizontally for like 30 seconds. Feel free to attack vertically for that whole time" attitude some enemies had. However, I thought Ghirahim and Demise were pretty epic bosses, as well as fun to fight. Trying to beat the Thunder Dragon's 13 boss fights in a row game was some of the most fun I've had in a Zelda game. I do tend to agree that older Zeldas were generally better than newer ones. Majora's Mask is still my favorite. Sigh, maybe I'm just getting old. They need to combine the things that made the older games great, with the things the newer ones do right. I'd love to see 3D dungeons absolutely filled with tough enemies. Imagine fighting hoards of Darknuts and Stalfoses with good 1:1 motion controls! You've got to be good and accurate with your sword swings as well quick on your feet to avoid the other enemies bearing down around you. I'd also love to see items more focused on combat rather than puzzle solving. Although the puzzle solving is good, I'd like to see other uses for them. Picture the fire rod from A Link to the Past. It had many uses as a puzzle solving item, but was great for various combat situations. Also I want Zelda games to have more secret items. Picture the Cane of Bryna from a Link to the Past. It was a completely optional item, but it was great in various battle situations. But it drained magic quickly so it wasn't over powered. If you couldn't tell, I consider A Link to the Past to be the highest point of Zelda items. Well, I'm rambling at this point. tl;dr - While I do love the new Zeldas and all they have to offer, I will agree that the older ones were better. |

Community colleges won't let you in until you're 21? That's odd. I was 18 when I first went to a community college. Heck, I was 18 when I first went to university (had to drop out to go to community college due to my shrinking financial situation. As was said earlier, it's not the most glamorous form of school, but it certainly gets the job done a lot cheaper.) |

So what sort of changes can we expect to see?
Will we be led into a golden age of posting and entertainment? Will we be thrown into a downward spiral and end up in the posting garbage can of the internet? ...or the more likely, things will probably be about the same? |

Personally, I'm indifferent. I have no qualms against a pony forum, but I just don't see it helping activity that much. Let's be honest: just as there are pony lovers, there are pony haters. In an attempt to bring pony fans here, you may scare away newcomers who hate ponies, especially if it ends up being one of the more active forums here.
But if you really think it'll help activity, go for it. Maybe you're on to something by advertising us as a pro-brony tech geek community. |

Posted by AilurePosted by AnAxemRangerThat describes every Zelda since uh, Zelda II. People have just gotten better at noticing when a game is linear. The linearity of the Zelda series didn't happen overnight. Even A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening had explorable overworlds. Sure, the dungeons pretty much had to be done in order, but at least you had the option of getting the dungeon item, and then leaving and going to beat a different dungeon (which was pretty pointless, and more trouble than it's worth, but hey, I liked the option). But the overworld could still be explored. There were just some obstacles that you couldn't pass until later to keep you from going to places they don't want you going to yet. But even with that, there were things to be discovered, places to go, and even secret items like the ice rod. Heck, nearly all of the Dark World's Death Mountain was pointless except for the two dungeons at the top. But it was still there to be explored. Although I will agree with you that Zelda games have gotten more and more linear since the first, it has been gradual, not an overnight change. As time has gone by, there has been less and less free roaming in the overworld. Barriers that can only be passed by dungeon items have been becoming more and more common. Now we have games like Phantom Hourglass and Skyward Sword where you have to beat a dungeon to obtain some key item that will actually open up large parts of the world. They're not even trying with free exploration anymore. But I suppose you're right: the focus of the series has been the dungeons, not the world. Maybe what the Zelda series does now was Nintendo's intent all along. |

And I was afraid this thread was dead.
I've never been nit-picky guy when it comes to hardware and such. I've had the same, outdated laptop for awhile now. The only reason I got Windows 7 was because it was free for Computer Science students at my University. So to answer your question (sorta), I don't really care. P.S. today, February 22nd, is my birthday. Just saying... |

Thanks a bunch guys
Those cakes both look really awesome. I really wish I had those right now, but they look too cool to eat. I'd rather keep them as trophies. I moved fairly recently, so I don't really know many people here yet, so unfortunately no wild parties. Just a quiet evening at home with the fam. Since I'm going to college away from home, I don't get to spend everyday with them so that's fine by me. I did have some friends from back home call me and I got to chat with them for a bit which was pretty awesome as well. Now I'm old enough for booze, gambling, and strip clubs. None which I have any interest in. Woo hoo! |

@DJSonicFreak and anyone with similar problems: Listen to Yakibomb.
Also, I play tested this entire thing using ZSNES ver. 1.36, without the errors you mentioned. So if you're experiencing constant freezing or something similar, I recommend using ZSNES 1.36. Also, thanks for the kind words. Hope you enjoy the game @Yakibomb: Both keys are in the castle, I can tell you that much. One you get from the guard in that one room, like you do in the original (I was pretty lazy when I got to this part of the hack), and the other key is in the room where you would normally have that pecking mini-game with Dodo. You have to fight the statue that isn't a statue. As for my Fire Emblem hack, I probably will make a thread for it later when I'm closer to finishing it. I recently took a break from it to work on another SMRPG hack, but lately I've had the urge to get back into it. I'm still working on details like the story, characters and the like, and also my archenemy: character portraits and sprite animations. As it turns out, my lack of skill with SMRPG sprites and animations carries over to Fire Emblem. |

I have recently heard about that error, and I'm working on a new patch that will fix that glitch, among other things. So yes, I do know what you're talking about.
But until I'm done with that patch, you can still keep playing. It shouldn't force you to start over, it will just keep you from going backwards in that level. If you're having trouble beating the bosses after this area and you're desperate for level-ups, just fight the various enemies in the area that are available. There is a healer after the glitched up area, so you can heal as necessary. And as far as items go, Putrid Piranhas can drop Maple Syrups and Gloombas can drop Gold Shrooms. |

Posted by DJSonicFreak Bingo. That's pretty much it exactly. Posted by DJSonicFreak Mario as a bonus boss? Yes he is, but apparently you've already fought him. Sorry, but that Booster Tower NES Mario is all the Mario you're gonna get. Glad to see you're enjoying the hack! I'm always glad to hear that my hard work is appreciated |

The only Phantasy Star game I ever really liked was Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 for Gamecube/Dreamcast. How does this one compare to that? |

Wait, this thing is actually real? I remember stumbling upon it when searching though Youtube, but I thought it was a prank or some "just for fun" fake video or something. I'll have to check this thing out. |

The only reason the Kardashians are as famous as they are is because the dad was a lawyer or juror or something during the O.J. Simpson trial so long ago, and then one of the girls leaked a sex tape or something. It makes me sick how famous these people are, especially considering they haven't really done anything noteworthy. What's worse is there are some misguided young girls who look up to them as role models. Such a shame. |

When I try to describe this place to people, I tell them it's a cool place where you can talk about anything you want to, with a definite emphasis on ROM hacking and other video game related stuff.
When they ask me to describe this place in one word, I say "spatula." Edit: I said "year" instead of "word" for some reason. Stupid multitasking. |

You mean you want to do something like this:
...but you want to do it with the ALttP engine? Words can't describe how awesome that would be and I would love to see it, but unfortunately I have no idea where to begin and I couldn't really help you, other than offer you moral support. Also, the above project was abandoned by the author some time ago, so you could still be the first guy to make a 2D Majora's Mask. Also, be aware that the project was made using Game Maker or something like that, not with an actual Zelda engine. I imagine hacking ALttP to the extent that it would have a 3 day, day/night system, NPCs with plentiful events that would occur depending on the time, etc. would be an incredibly daunting task. Anyway, like I said, this is way over my head, but I wish you the best of luck. |

I'm sorry, I misread your post. I immediately thought you said you wanted to make a 2D Majora's Mask, but now I see you want to make a 2D Zelda game with some Majora's Mask qualities. My subconscious must be trying to be telling something... Just the same, good luck. |

Hey all, things have seemed pretty slow around here lately so I thought I'd share this to liven things up a bit. This hack has been around for a few years already, but I only heard about it maybe a month or so ago. So I thought I'd share this for those of you who haven't heard of it before.
Note: this hack is not mine. I take credit for absolutely nothing. This is a hack of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. According to the story, Zelda's birthday is coming up and several of her friends have gotten her presents, only to have them stolen or lost. Link must then go on a journey to find these missing presents and make sure Zelda's special day isn't ruined. This hack only has 3 dungeons, but they're fairly well done. 1 of the dungeons has been made completely from scratch, so the design is simple. I think the hack creator called this dungeon the "LoZ throwback dungeon" or something because it's similar to an original LoZ dungeon: every room looks the same, but there are different puzzles and enemies in each room and such. The other two dungeons are familiar, but exits, puzzles, items, and enemies have all been switched around giving the dungeons a whole new feel. The overworld remains mostly the same, but there are some new puzzles and such that you must figure out to get from place to place. Talking about the game does no justice, watch the video trailer or play it for yourself! Hope you all enjoy. download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?vzzd0yrzyjk Video trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCH_B7xkLWY (note: the textures used in the video are not included in the game patch. You must download them and apply them separately.) |
