Branish 2: The Planet Buster is a weird action-RPG by Falcom with some pretty swank music.

Castle Wall
Tower
Gadobardorerr (Final Boss)

Given the fact that there's another villager in the game whose name is Bagu (ie Bug), I'd assume Error's name is just the result of some programmer-humor.

-= MATCH 1 =-

In one corner we have Ice Penguin's nomination, Liberi Fatali from Final Fantasy 8, which (being Final Fantasy) needs no introduction.

In the other corner we have blackhole89's pick: .hack//G.U. Opening Loop 1 ~ 夜明けの飛翔 ("Flight of dawn").

Since I can't seem to edit the poll, cast your votes here by posting the song you prefer. Voting closes Wednesday at 11 AM PDT (GMT -8 or 9 or sumthing).

NOMINATIONS ARE STILL OPEN.

The dothack song is a boring pretentious* song that is pretentious and boring. On the other hand, Final Fantasy 8 (while pretentious) at least has the gall to put a rather respectable effort into being engaging.

So yeah. I'm gonna have to vote for FF8 for this round. Granted, there are some better vocal songs you guys could have picked.

Oh, and you better nominate something NightKev. And you too, GreyMario. I know you're reading this.**

*Whatever that means.
**Maybe not.

Liberi Fatali wins in a scintillating 2-0 shutout.

I guess you could say it was...

*Sunglasses*

...a liberal fatality.

*Audience groans*

-= MATCH 16 =-

Since you guys suck at nominating things, we need to go into the future into the realm of second nominations to even find a proper matchup.

In one corner we have Ice Penguin's pick from Final Fantasy 6, which (being Final Fantasy) needs no introduction.

...oh wait I already used that joke last round.

In the other corner we have my pick from Tetridonutsphere, which given my objectively superior taste, is the superior song. You guys should totally vote for it.

Voting closes Friday at 11 AM Pacific Time (GMT -8 or -9 or sumthing).

NOMINATIONS ARE STILL OPEN.

I consider that result fairly fishy, given that I most certainly did vote for my nomination.

Since I can't seem to edit the poll, cast your votes here by posting the song you prefer.

Basically, I'm ignoring the poll until I have the ability to reset the votes and rename the options*. If you (or other people) feel your vote wasn't counted, you can contest the results. I'll even change the results if necessary.

As far as people not knowing about this thread: there's not much I can do about it. Sure, I could just wait for people, but when those people see the slow pace of the thread, I doubt they'd be interested. I could pimp this thread in other threads, but I know that's considered a faux pas around here. The best thing that could happen is for this to be added to the PoRA box, but I can't do that (and apparently neither can you).

Also, I'm voting for my own nomination because I'm an egotist.

*Or until a staff member takes that responsibility upon himself.

Step 1: wait for blackhole89 to finish and release Solar Soundtrack.

I've been doing this for the better part of a decade.

It's not working.

Tetrisphere wins this round in another absolutely enthralling 1-0 shutout.

(The poll claims a score of 4-2 in FF6's favor, but I'm ignoring it on account of the fact I'm losing that there's no way to tell if people actually voted for it or just forgot to change it from the previous match.)

Anyways, on to the next match.

...

Uh-oh!

We're out of nominations! Whatever will we do?!?

a) Continue on as if nothing is happening and fill in the gaps with the extra nominations, random nominations of my own, and the occasional actual nomination that shows up.
b) Repeal the "Opening Song" restriction (and possibly restart the contest).
c) Replace the "Opening Song" restriction with a "Final Boss Death Sound Effect" restriction.
d) End the contest entirely, burn the community to the ground, and salt the earth.
e) Something completely different.

YOU VOTE, I DECIDE!

We need a different method of voting before we continue, the current one is obviously inadequate.

Elaborate, please. Are you referring to the poll I'm ignoring because I can't edit or trust to be an accurate representation of votes past day one, or something else entirely?

Sounds reasonable enough to me. I'll make a new thread in the evening (I'm busy the rest of the day). In the mean time, this thread can be trashed.

So that other thread didn't go over all that well. Let's try this again.

BRACKET Status: FULL!

Voting will start around 11 AM (Pacific time) Tuesday (July 27).

THE RULES:

1) There will be 64 nominees with a soft limit of 6 songs per person (and a hard limit of 8). By "soft limit" I mean "I don't give a darned sock."

2) The song(s) you nominate must be from a videogame.

3) You must provide some sort of link to the song (ie YouTube).

4) All votes and nominations must be posted in this thread.

5) For heavens sake listen to both songs each match.

6) Have fun!

Ties will be settled through careful study of the nearest set of sheep entrails.

The winner of this contest will win a nice set of bragging rights.

I'd like to start off with two nominations of my own:

Hero Core - Tetron - Final boss theme from the Game of the Decade
F-Zero GX - Time For Kill (Story #6) - Don't Blink and Drive

Impressive. Over half the bracket is full already.

A couple more nominations from myself:

Final Fantasy 4 - Within the Giant - Might as well join the Uematsu fan club.
MC Kids - Stage 2 - Best triangle wave in any NES song.

Don't start the battles until all spots have been filled.

Well, that means that if you want to start voting sooner you should nominate some more songs.

That goes to the rest of you as well. Yes, even you people lurking in thread.

Nominations here are on a first-come first-serve basis, so I'm not going to do that (translation: I'm lazy). Though I would be willing to bump out fifth/sixth/seventh/ect. nominations if the bracket gets crowded enough. These songs will handily be preceded by an asterisk (*) on the bracket.

Also, I'm gonna be gone all day tomorrow. I expect lotsa nominations when I come back.

The bracket is now full.

Too full.

Haz had one perfectly fine song that didn't make the cut, and none of PU206C's nominations can fit in. This means we have 5 songs can't that can't fit in. Curiously, when you tally up all the nominations people made beyond their fourth, you get five songs.

Basically, this means that out of the 37 nominations we have, we need to remove 5 of them to get to 32. The responsibility for fixing this mess now lies (mainly) on you people that nominated more than 4 songs.

For reference, here's a list of the people with extra nominations:
- Ice Penguin (+3)
- NightKev (+1)
- Trapster (+1)

(People without extra nominations can also choose to remove their own songs, if they feel so inclined.)

Once you guys sort this out, the voting will begin.

(Also, we have a Trapster vs. Trapster match-up. I need to fix this.)

Change the limit back to 64 songs!

k

The only problem with this is that Bracketmaker wouldn't allow me to change the bracket type, so I had to make another 32 song bracket (in the same tournament). All this really does is make things a tad more unwieldy for me.

Also, I'm increasing the per-person song limit (lol) to 6.

EDIT: I'm also putting a hard limit of 8 songs per person into place.

EDIT 2: Nominating 2 more songs:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade) - Fire! - Turtle Powered Awesomeness
Mega Man 10 - Against the Pressure - Possibly the best Wily theme ever.

Sorry Haz, but I won't be accepting any arrangements this time around. Next time, however, I plan on doing a remix competition, so those songs will be perfectly eligible.

Also, I did moved some songs from Bracket A to B so I could have all of CrossTheRubicon's nominations in different divisions. I'll probably do this again if more people nominate 6 songs.

We're 7 nominations away from having both brackets full, and I know multiple regulars who haven't bothered nominating a single song.
