Reminds me of Gyruss:
Battletoads and Dynamite Headdy both have stages where you go up a cylindrical tower. Pokemon Puzzle League has a "3D mode" which turns the playfield into a cylinder. |

Recently, the creator of the game announced that he's making an enhanced remake, and he's accepting asset contributions (gfx, sfx, music, levels) as part of a contest.

(Because I'm lazy, I'm reposting my impressions from another forum. Warning: Extreme Positivity)
Bought and played through this game last night. Cleared it in about 3 hours. Definitely up there in the Upper Echelons of Rockmandom, along with 2, 4, and 9. The levels and bosses are all (ALL) well-designed and fair, castle included. The weapons, while not as universally useful as 4 or 9's, are all satisfying to use. The music is both a departure from 9's tempting status quo and absolutely phenomenal (haters: it will grow on you (like fungus, at worst)). All in all, I think this might be my favorite classic Mega Man game yet, though it's a bit too early to judge and I'm not one to pick favorites. Favorite Stages: Sheep Man, Wily 2 Favorite Bosses: Nitro Man, Tricastle, Block Devil Favorite Songs: Blade Man and Wily 4 Favorite Weapons: Water Shield and Wheel Cutter I also played (breezed) through it on easy mode as Protoman in an hour. "Easy" is an understatement. The absurd amount of assist platforms, yashichis, and E/W/M-Tanks spread around the game make me think that Inti Creates was either absolutely terrified of newcomers dying or just flat-out trolling people who though 9 was too hard. Seriously, I'm pretty sure my mom could beat easy mode (note: test this), and the farthest she's ever gotten in an action game is Butter Bridge 1 in SMW about 15 years ago (which, admittedly, is pretty good (especially in comparison to my dad)). |

Seeing the SNES's sprite-per-scanline limit broken is always fun. |

Stark, everybody's favorite Administralastor, is one of the most enigmatic persons to walk (?) the earth. In order to piece together/unravel this mystery, I suggest that we collaborate by listing as many actual and factual facts as possible concerning this fine feathered fellow.
As the topic creator, I'll start: - Stark is actually the secret identity of a famous superhero (you guys should already know this). - Stark owns a farm with not one, not two, but three (video non-existent) floating race tracks above it. Truly, the man is an agricultural genius. - Past aliases of Stark include Alastor (the Stylish), Kyouji "Kagami" Craw, The Sunshine Sovereign, "Blisseh", and Millard Fillmore. -Various - Stark is actually two dwarves in a trench coat posing as a regular-sized person. -Xeruss - Stark's ancestors lived in an ancient castle called Winterfell in Westeros. -Traffic Light If I'm sufficiently non-lazy, I'll compile all of the facts you guys list into The Definitive List of Facts Pertaining to the Individual |

I present to you Star Fox. Easily my favorite 16-bit soundtrack.
Some of my favorites: Controls (a very nice, simple melody...) ...increase the epic-ness a dozen or so notches and you get: Map Select (man I want to play this game now) Meteor (excellent use of stereo sound, which you sadly can't hear here) High quality link Boss (Titania) Fortuna Venom Base (Level 2) |

How 'bout some elevator music, guys?
<- TMNT 4 <- Earthworm Jim <- Super Metroid Posted by ninjablooper I approve. EDIT: We need a thread for YM2616 (Mega Drive/Genesis) music. There's some really awesome 16-bit tunage you guys are missing out on by limiting yourself to the SNES. |

Posted by RT-55J I'll do it myself. The Genesis (AKA Mega Drive), despite being on even footing with the SNES during the course of it's lifetime, has been all but completely overshadowed by the SNES in modern times (possibly due to Sega's demise as a console manufacturer). However, regardless of it's popularity, it is host to a numerous amount of awesome games with awesome soundtracks. The main sound chip, the YM2612, was notoriously hard to work with (and hard to emulate ). Unlike the SNES, where composers could just record a set of samples, Genesis composers had to figure out the unintuitive process of FM synthesis to produce good sounds, resulting in a much wider game between good music and bad music than the SNES. To start us off, here's a selection of tracks from Castlevania: Bloodlines, which has Stage 1 - Reincarnated Soul Stage 2 - The Sinking Old Sanctuary Stage 4 - Iron Blue Intention Stage 6 - Calling from Heaven Classic Tune 4 - Theme of Simon |

I was going to post a couple soundtracks by a couple notable Amiga devs, but I realized that one of the soundtracks in question wasn't very good and it's getting rather late and I need to wake up rather early tomorrow.
So instead I'll just post a song by Tim Follin. Time Trax - Title Music AFAIK it's the only surviving piece of Genesis music that he actually composed and arranged. |
