Might you consider making an editor for the Gen4 Pokemon games instead of Gen3?
Oh, trust me. The idea has crossed my mind. There are certain reasons, however, for me not to.

Like the fact that most things are 3D?

I love SoulSilver, I'm playing a battle-only translation while I waiting for the release. My only issue with it is that the ROM crashes consistently in Violet City.

And the thing is about to die if I try DeSmuME, but it's nice for recording...

Besides, there are barely any good DS emulators yet.
DeSmuME is pretty flawless (As far as I know) Everything I've tried on it works, but it sure is slow...

no$gba works wonders, but it doesn't savestate for me.
DeSmuME is a lot better than no$gba, it runs a lot of things no$gba won't, even if it means a slight speed cut.
And it emulates semi-trasparancy properly...
Look at the effects in the Pokemon games when in battle, they look like shit in NO$GBA but they look as they should in DeSmuME...
