The thread wont die....newcomers(like myself) are always interested in seeing new things unfold. Im trying to make my own hack with the SMB3 Workshop, but failing miserably....I recently got some help....so Im doing a tad better but still struggling.

Anyways, I really hope that we get someone on the SMA4 game and produce an editor.

I have a question. With the new editor, will I be able to 'test' the level before I actually publish it? Or will I still have to go through with patching the rom first?

Im very new to rom hacking, but I am very interested in making a custom rom to share with the world.

Sweet. Im using SMB3 Workshop right now....as confusing and frustrating as it is. Can't wait to get my hands on this one...looks very promising.

I havent made a proper introduction. I hail from the US. Atlanta GA to be exact.

I like games(duh), but I am really getting into the Super Mario Rom hacking phenom. I stumbled upon this a few days ago along with the SMB3 Workshop and now Im almost done with my first level!

I wouldn't get too far on your project in SMB3 Workshop... since you won't be able to edit those levels anymore with Rueben!

Oh no....but I really want to get into the whole hacking thing.....I was finally starting to understand some of the mechanics in SMB3 Workshop....but by the time this is (fully)released, I want to have at least one full hack under my belt.

That sounds like a neat concept for a future release. I think it'll be neat to have as long as the arranged tiles are in a window by itself, since it would be confusing if the original tile window was altered, especially in an irreversible way. Meanwhile I will be glad just to have version 1.0 to work with once it's released, even if extra GUI features aren't implemented yet.
I agree.

I some assistace with the pointers. Im trying to link a pipe to a bonus area, but cant seem to figure out the hex. First, it took me to the black room of doom, now it just freezes the game.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Honestly, I sucked at math. If there is like a 'cheat sheet' to help me with this I would love to have it.

Secondly, there is a pipe that goes to the room of doom always? It must be the one that ignores all pointers, right?

So for the freezing issue, I'm assuming my hex value is wrong, and causing the game to crash, right?

Gee, I wish someone did a video tutorial with this....lol

*hint hint*

So here is(was) my first level hack.

In the new one...most of the pipes are gone due to the fact that I might have overwritten the bonus area(I think I just messed up the hex code)

Anyone know why the chain chomps behaved so oddly?

Hey, New issue. Im tryng to change my area colors, but the palette colors do not 'stick'. It always revert back to its original color scheme when I start up the level. Any ideas?

What type (plain, hilly, underground) of level are you making? After you apply the palette changes, are you saving the ROM? Are you loading the correct ROM?
It's a plain level. I noticed I could change the level palette, but I could not do a custom one. I can save it and there would be no changes, but swapping the the level palette is fine. Is there any way to do a custom color scheme?

I see what you guys are saying....I dont wanna go for Kaizo...thats just insane. You may be right, too many enemies in one area....will disorient a lot of people...especially at the end with the deathtrap I have there.

I really appreciate the critique.

I see what you are saying Dark. Too hard too early, but I do need to lay off the enemy sprites.

I wouldnt mind Beta testing...but seeing as I am very inexperienced with this I may be of no help.
