Yeah, I know... but that's something the user would have to do himself (although through the editor).

Yeah, I was planning to implement something like that... Anyway, 4 days left before presentation.

Screenshots soon.

Edit: Earthbound Kart seems to be the only hack my editor can't open at the moment... It fails to import palette data (Lunar Compress says "Either decompression failed, the format isn't supported, or the compressed structure has a size of 0.").
Any idea, GlitchCog ?

That's really awesome but I don't like the Star spin animation. It's basically just too papery. Add a bit depth. Only a bit.

I made it.
It looks papery on purpose... because that's how I picture Super Mario stars. I might try something else later though, but not anytime soon.

It wasn't planned... Apart from the fact I'm not a noob programmer, such macros would need to be adjustable for custom tile gfx, as not everyone is going to use the original ones...
But as the project will be opensource, other people may want to take on the challenge...

At least there'll be a zoom option, so you won't struggle as much as with Track Designer...

ShadowTail: I didn't even know that existed. I took Mario's sprite sheet and altered him into Wario.

It's almost a pixel perfect match, though... Can't be a coincidence.
Maybe both of you ripped the Wario graphics from the same game or something...

So, where did you take the graphics from ? I looked at Wario Land 4, but they're not like that.

Anyway, that other Wario sprite is very nice, but it can't be implemented in an SMK game as is... First, it's 34 pixel tall.

Stifu, I think I have some palettes that don't compress well enough to fit back into their allotted space. One palette probably overlaps and corrupts the data in an adjacent palette, which then wouldn't decompress correctly.

You might need to change the addresses pointing to the palettes... (1EDBB -> 1EDD2)
I'll look into it more later...

By the way, I just implemented a zoom feature in my editor (x½, x1, x2, x4), works fine and all... Now I need to make gfx display smoother, using something like that... Because it lags quite a bit at the moment.

Oh yes, another data I was looking for... The bytes (most likely just one per track) that define what kind of object is used on each track (pipe, mole, and so on)...
I found that in the RAM a while ago, but forgot to note that down... It's most likely not compressed, and must not be all that hard to find, I think...

Besides, the fact some screenshots are old is not an excuse... Making new ones doesn't take much time and lets people see what you've currently got, rather than commenting on old stuff.

They're all loaded from the ROM, nothing hard coded.

Stifu: I know the window style imples it, but the track view sizes to the proportions of the window, right?

At the moment, it's stuck at 512x512, but I'll make it variable in the future.

Nope, I see no blatant art theft here. Carry on.

Yeah... As I said, it can't be a coincidence, especially since it's not really based on a Wario sprite from a commercial game.
The Wario Land 3 sprite looks nothing like that...

Besides, no offense to dirtbag, but his Baldy Kart sprites are nowhere near the quality of this Wario sprite.

Edit: I guess I should take the fact dirtbag viewed this and didn't reply as a confirmation. :\
Dirtbag - trust minus minus.

The hat, the nose, the ears... everything is different from Mario's sprite. I'd post Mario's sprite here, but I can't be bothered and I'm at work, too.
There are just so many ways to draw a character that it's simply impossible for 2 persons to end up with a pixel perfect match like that just out of coincidence, seriously.
Not to mention your other sprites weren't in that style at all...

And if you were telling the truth, wouldn't you freak out that someone else made the exact same sprite as you ? Because you didn't really sound surprised (although this is just a text conversation)... And the fact he already made the full animation pretty much confirms he made his stuff before you did.

As you know, I have nothing against you, but I just can't buy that.

(And I hope you're not playing on words, as in you've never seen this sprite sheet but only just found the side view frame somewhere.)

Dirtbag has been found GUILTY !!
... Bear with me, I just started playing Phoenix Wright.

I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt though. :\

Ice Man: that replaces the Nintendo startup logo, right ? I wonder if the restrictions are the same as in SMK, but the startup logo is much smaller than that, in the original game... Did you have to do some advanced hacking to get extra tiles in ? Because I wouldn't mind doing that for Epic Racers, too.

VSNES tells me SMK uses 4 8x8 sprites for the logo. There's nothing else on the screen at the time. It'll need some hacking to work out.

As I thought... But I thought maybe some people already did the exact same thing for SMW. Maybe I should check out that SMW patch then, thanks Ice Man.

Dude, that just made some crazy ideas pop up in my head..... Day/night system anyone!?

Man, what a fucking crazy idea. It's not like it's already been done before, no. Not at all.
Doesn't mean it'd be bad to implement it, though.

If memory serves, Bio did it too. Besides, even if it hadn't been done in any SMB3 hack so far, a day/night system is hardly a revolutionary idea, as that guy made it sound like.

Anyway, yeah, DahrkDaiz does great things with his hacks... but they're all insanely buggy.
