This hacking community mostly mostly revolves around Nintendo, so you may have better chances of getting your question answered on a pro-Sega board...
Sonic CulT, for example... but it looks like they're having problems now. You may still get your answer here, anyway... |

I thought it was quite useless... It's something that should be handled by your browser. If you like a thread, bookmark it...
I know that doesn't let you keep your favorite threads on any computer then, but is that really necessary ? I think we're missing much more vital features at the moment, such as letting users edit the title of their thread... |

If you're really worried about users messing with thread titles, you could go for somewhat-annoying-to-implement workarounds, such as having moderators validate new thread names before they're accepted (users would suggest a new title, and mods would be warned by a little icon or text next to the thread title, then they accept or refuse)...
Or another solution: you could have some kind of list of actions users can do (or profile fields they can edit), and add the possibility for admins/mods to lock/disable some of them for certain users who abused them (o user X can no longer edit the title of his threads, or change his user title, for example)... Truthfully, though, I don't think people would really abuse it... I've seen no such thing on ezboard, phpBB and the likes... |

On a side note, although that request was clearly retarded... Retro compatibility is overrated. Who cares about Windows 95 ? Struggling to stay compatible with old versions of Windows is more trouble than it's worth. It's much too restricive, as you can't use some of the newer technology which would make your life much easier, or get better performances. |

If thread editing gets implemented, it shouldn't be like on Acmlm Board 1.x, where there's a separate page to edit thread stuff... But in a field at the top of the first post when you edit it, as other boards do it. |

I'm not going to comment on everything... For now I'll just say I wouldn't have drawn a black outline around the sun (beach stage, 3rd screen). |

Posted by Apophis That's what I thought you guys were talking about, considering how vague the discussion was... Haven't heard of anything else happening recently. *shrugs* Whatever... |

Posted by Dr. Mario I'm really not a fan of unicolored sprites like that... But if you want to use them in a hack, go for a Game Boy one (like SML2), so at least the lack of colors won't be that painful. :p |

Posted by Sgraff87 I'm not there to troll, but I can't see the point of such hacks. Someone was working on a black & white Super Metroid hack at some point, too... The thing is many emulators (and monitors, but that's more annoying) lets you get into greyscale mode... So unless you're doing it solely for yourself (to learn stuff or kill time, whatever) and not for players, I'd say this is a waste of time. You are devoting X hours of your life making a game black & white, while anyone can already play any game they want in black & white by simply checking a box in the emu options. |

Posted by Xkeeper I see. I actually started typing it may have a use if it has something else to boost, but ended up removing that part from my post, as I keep on reformulating my sentences. But anyway... That may work better for more serious games (Metroid, Shinobi), I guess... Because Mario has never been about overloaded details, but rather simple and cute graphics. But how good that hack may turn out obviously depends on how the idea is actually implemented, it may end up being worth looking at if done right... |

Posted by Apophis Heh, okay... I didn't pay attention to that, but then again, considering Xk's username color has been changing all the time so far, going from banned to other random colors, even when he was an admin... What about the board development ? Is there actually going to be any progress now (if there's no more internal conflict), or is it going to be more dead than ever ? But as for blackhole, I'd prefer him to spend his time on Solar Soundtrack rather than fixing/improving the board. On a side note, it doesn't look like knuck has evolved one bit. |

Posted by Xkeeper Which I don't really see as a problem. Else you could just change the title anytime without any evidence that it has been edited... So if you add thread editing in a separate page, then yeah, I guess that one page should be mod only. So you could do both... Although it'd probably be cleaner to have everything in the same place... |

Posted by Xkeeper As you can see from Treeki's post it's not "just as easy", else he would have got his thread title changed. Other examples come to mind, too, like the "Demo 6" thread etc... First, asking a mod takes more time (from you, and for the mod to do the change), and people may want to avoid bothering mods, too. I can't think of any reason not to allow users to edit thread titles. If people abuse it, just punish them, like you would if they fuck up with their title or signature, or spam the board, whatever. I don't mean to sound offensive, but if you're that paranoid, why are we even allowed to edit our posts, rather than asking mods to do it for us ? That doesn't make sense to me. |

Posted by Xkeeper Sounds good. Full control is better than zero control, in some cases (especially if it doesn't involve security issues). At least it things would be moving, unlike now. And I don't know what kind of restriction you're thinking of. Not being able to edit a thread title after one reply has been posted sounds stupidly restrictive to me (I'm not saying that's what you proposed). |

Posted by Xkeeper I can't say I like that idea. Some thread title would ideally need to be updated regularly, too (like when indicating the latest version number of a certain program or game, Demo 6/7/8 is out, whatever). |
