Guys I would like to join this SMRPG hack community, but I am also a noob. I had been trying to hack the game using the Lazy Shell. I have actually added new sprites by editing the non-usable ones, but when I try to apply it to a monster, I notice that there was no option to attach the sprite to the monster.

I am also wondering how to hack the level cap. I intend to extend it to 99. But, how do I do it?

Can you guys pls help me out?

Here are my suggestions..

1. If it's possible, can you guys allow the editor to add an entirely new string instead of editing an existing one? It would be cool if we can add more characters and maps.

2. Music editor

3. Increase level cap.

4. Add new character spells.

5. Add 6th character.

Too bad..

Assembly hacking could be a cool feature, I saw it on starcraft editors, but I understand that it would require more time and could even mean reconstructing lazy shell from scratch.

Anyway, I saw somewhere on this forum, about a new Lazy Shell version. The current one I was able to download is v.1.0. Where can I find v.2.0? Is it currently on the works?

I got a new problem.. I cannot display the new sprite on the map.

I notice that NPC# does not correspond to image #. When I use the search function, it gave me the wrong #.

Btw, I was trying to use a modified image #338. How do I change the NPC# to match the image that I wanted?

There are many duplicate dialogues in the ROM. Are all of them used by the game? Is there a way to find out which ones are in actual use?

I found a way to break this editor restriction. Instead of using exit, I'm now using events.

Now, I'm with another problem.. I can't make the dialogue run correctly. I can't add a new dialogue without editing existing ones.. aargh!

This happens when the VRAM partition does not match the current NPCs on the field.

VRAM partition acts like a directory of sprites. If you use a sprite not belonging to a particular partition, the images will look garbled.

I have been having the same problem as Lazy Shell does not create new strings, but rather simply rearrange them.

Look for a VRAM partition that corresponds to all of the sprites on the map.

Hi guys..

Anyone knows how to edit the maximum experience? Lazy Shell displays a maximum 65535 exp. but when I test it, the maximum exp that can be achieved remains at 9999. Is this a bug?

By the way, is the Lazy Shell project dead? I am really looking forward to the success of this editor.

I was thinking if there's somebody who knows ASM hack. I already tried to mess around with the roms HEX. Thanks to giangurgolo's hex document I manage to find the ASM offsets:

Unfortunately, I'm still unable to determine where the max exp offset is located, though I already found out that it's possible to increase max level cap from lv.30 to lv.50 with the help of Waddler's SMRPG Remix hack. Still, the max exp cap is retained at 9999. It has something to do with the unknown bits found on the ASM battle offsets. This is the only clue I have..

Anyone who knows ASM hacking, pls share a little knowledge will you guys?

If we can expand the limitations of this game, I believe we could resurrect SMRPG.

Anyone guys?

I have begun editing the rom through hex, and have made progress. My new ROM hack is now a duplicate of Waddler's. Maximum level cap is now 50. Actually, I had used Waddler's rom as basis since he alone knows where the level cap offset is located. I had also fixed the spells inflict element problem. (Thanks to giangurgolo's doc)

I am hoping to learn more about the hexes. I notice that it's possible to add new spells, add new spell animation, and even expand the levels up to 99. However, due to the rom's limited size (around 4mb), we are kinda out of memory. But, I found out that FuSoYa, the creator of Lunar Magic has found a way to expand the ROM for up to 8mb (HiROM). He used it on Super Demo World SMW hack. If only anyone knows how to reorganize the ROM's tables, allowing us to import more data into the ROM, I believe we can expand SMRPG even further.

I already found a disassembler for the ROM. But, I had to admit, I am noob so I don't know how to use it. Anyone interested pls PM me.

Thanks gian.. I'm glad that this project is not dead. This update means that the Lazy Shell project is still up and currently in the works.

Btw, I didn't know that you can add new spells to the heroes without ruining the tables, including the FP consumption, Effect Type, etc. I notice that when I add new spells to Mario, the FP consumption, for example it costs 8FP, turns out to be 3FP (as if it was halved). The Effect Type is also change from Inflict to Nullify. This make Toadstool and Bowser's Effect Type such as Terrorize, and Sleepy Time to cure Fear and Sleep enemy status prob instead of inflicting them.

Btw gian, I saw your doc regarding ASM, but I can't figure out what program to disassemble/reassemble the ROM. I have downloaded a lot of programs and non of them seems to work.

They are always showing a different version of the table. What's up with that?

Hello guys, I just want to present my version of super mario rpg hack. I call it Super Mario RPG Expansion. It's still in it's early stages.

Now about the hack:

-It is based on Waddler-D's True Remix hack. Thus, you can also expect it to have up to level 50. However, all the spell learn, character level up stats, and stat bonuses have been tweaked. The only system preserved is the Next level timing. (Note that I am not trying to compete with Waddler-D. As a matter of fact, Waddler gets the credit from this since this is based on his hack)

-The level up system is now character specific. Mario has been designed to be versatile, thus his stats can be expected to be good on all sides, but his real strength is in Power. Mallow is terrible in terms of physical defense, he compensates this weakness with his powerful spells (2nd to Geno), a very high HP, and a strong magic def. Geno is similar to the original SMRPG, he's still average in power. But he has been tweaked to be the most powerful spellcaster. His magic defense is second only to mallow though. Bowser, being the brute of the team is the strongest member there is.. he's only weakness is magic. Finally, Toadstool (Peach) is the weakest character in the game. She's the best support you can get as her healing spells comes really handy.

-The spells have also been rebalanced. Some of it now cost a lot, for instance, Peach's Come back now costs 14fp. It would be unfair to Smithy's gang if she can keep on resurrecting her buddies right? Well, not anymore! Jump and some spells have the tendency to miss also. This will really try your patience, most especially when you're trying to get the Super Suit (now Super Shirt).

You can start by reading the help file that comes with Lazy Shell. You have to set stats, battle formation, battle pack, and attach it to the level that you want to edit.

I have an additional suggestion to Lazy Shell. If it may not be too late.. how about you guys add an offset locator, so that we could know what part of the rom is being edited. Hope I'm not asking too much.

Btw, I just found out that it's impossible to create a new animation without editing an existing one. It's just not possible with limited ROM space.
