I'd wager a guess he's talking about actually drawing them.

Well, this is it: the last two stages I'll be designing for this hack before Reuben is released. Enjoy. :3

Copypasta from my Youtube description:

You guys are probably wondering what this is all about. I thought I'd type up a big, long-winded explanation, but one just wouldn't come to me. Here's the short version:

Simply put, ever since DahrkDaiz announced his new editor Reuben for SMB3 and began listing really good features and showing miraculous progress on the implementation of said features, I've lost motivation to continue working on my hack with the basic tools that I've been using.

I am very thankful for the time I've spent getting acquainted with SMB3 Workshop, Translhextion, SMB3 Map Editor Beta, and YY-CHR. Compared to Super Mario World, Mario 3 has been a much more difficult and humbling hacking experience. I've had to learn many things on my own to get this hack to its current level, so I think that when I make the switch to this "power editor" that Reuben will be, I can fully appreciate its features as I have been more than sufficiently exposed to the alternative.

I'll be rebuilding many of my stages from the ground up. I can't see world 1 changing very much, but world 2 definitely will. Ever since I played NSMBWii, it has dawned on me how sick and tired I am of world 2 always being a freaking desert. At first, it was just a problem with others' SMB3 hacks, but now it's extended into the official games, as well. I have always hated deserts in video games (mostly RPGs, but both were depressing in the two NSMB titles), so I'm either going to relocate the desert theme to another world or do away with it altogether. Since this means that all of these stages and this map will be scrapped, I decided to go ahead and showcase them here.

You also get to see some of my graphical edits in action! Realize, though, that much of it was a WIP, and as such, you'll see quite a few placeholder tiles and the occasional junk tile. These would have been addressed for a beta or final release.

Wow, that wasn't as short as I thought it'd be. Thank you, everyone, for being patient with my hack, and know that my decision to use Reuben should ultimately make this game far better than it ever could have been with what I have been previously using. :3

Hey guys. Normally, I don't consult other people for aesthetic ideas concerning my projects, but I thought it'd be interesting to get some input.

I've decided that I want to do away with the desert theme of the second world in my SMB3 hack. Reasons:

- desert theme for specifically world 2 is overused in SMB3 hacks, most-likely due to being the default world theme. In fact, the ONLY Mario 3 hack I know of that doesn't have world 2 as a desert is Mario Adventure, and that's just silly.

- I've always hated deserts in video games. Specifically RPGs, but the music and atmosphere of them in both of the New Super Mario Bros. games cause a very noticeable "bump" in the experience of both titles.

- I've been angry ever since I found out NSMBWii had the EXACT same world themes as its DS-based predecessor, so I want to try to stray from using those themes as much as possible.

So now I come to you: do you think you can suggest a better world 2 theme for me than just plain-old desert? I'm all ears, but be aware that as a perfectionist elitist bastard, I shall judge harshly! Think you can help me out?

So... R.I.P. The Original Version of Mineyl's Unnamed SMB3 Hack.

Maybe I'll tidy this up a bit and release it. The perfectionist in me would rather not, but...you know. xD

Thank you for your support. :3

Found some game footage! They're both bad quality and there's a lot of talking, but you can make out some stuff and I definitely hear the MM2 buster sound effects. I've only watched the Sheep Man video so far, and the guy playing really sucks. xD

Sheep Man demo with Megaman!

Commando Man demo with Protoman!

EDIT: And NOW the official trailer!

Mega Man 10 official trailer! Check it out!

I don't know how useful I'd actually be, otherwise I'd ask.

But if it comes right down to it, I might be able to help.

Well, thank you for that very large amount of information, but I already know how to change the world themes to my liking. I simply wanted creative ideas on what I could actually change it to.

For a World 2 theme, Kirby's Dream Land 2 did a forest. Perhaps you could modify the sky clouds to look like trees?

Y'know, now that I think of it, I probably could do a forest theme as long as I'm using Reuben. Thanks for your input.
Posted by copyRIGHThunter
I'd stay away from themes like Outer Space, the Sky, or Ice Land until at least World 3. They seem like harder themes.
I'm not much for "outer space" unless I make some kind of special world a la Super Mario World. My world 5 is still going to be a sky world, but with a thematic twist to it. Ice...I'll move somewhere else. I thought it was silly that world 3 was icy in NSMBWii.

People won't play a game that's not fun, no matter how good the gfx are.

You must not know any PS3 owners, then.

I think the only error I've seen so far is Mario says Your instead of you're.
Actually, the whole intro is caked with bad grammar and spelling. I'm sure our man Infidelity will fix that up for the final release, though.

I liked the demo. Assembly is beyond me, but it's very nice and inspiring to see what is being achieved in non-profit projects such as this. The game looks nice and sounds awesome, as well.

Difficulty-wise, this hack definitely isn't for anyone new to the series, and perhaps I am thankful for that due to the nature of the game's story. I'm having major trouble with the difficulty level, and yes, I do consider myself a "Mega Man master," as well. This will pass, though, hopefully. When I can devote more time to practice, I will get better and I'm sure it will become as easy as other Megaman titles are.

Keep at it, Infidelity. I look forward to the next release!

I've been eying the DSi XL, but I'm content with my old, original DS. I have a bad habit of buying systems just before a new version is introduced, so I was not immediately enthralled with the DSi when I heard it would lack a GBA slot due to my GBA (also the original model) not having a back light.

...come to think of it, has the original DSi even been out for an entire year yet? Geez, Nintendo.

Anyone else ever get bothered by how Nintendo loves to release gimmicky updated models of stuff and then all the old peripherals suddenly become antiquated? Clever marketing scheme, but it pisses me off. :\

I've considered staying away from the DSi until Nintendo decides to be a bunch of jerks and makes games only for the DSi, incompatible with the DS Lite/DS "Phat".
They already have: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DSiWare.

Not an impressive list so far, but it exists and you know it will grow.

It really shouldn't matter, as the terminal byte $FF that is automatically added by SMB3 Workshop will keep SMB3 from adding those 00 00 00 objects (though I believe that the editor won't actually replace the "unused" bytes with 00, they'll just be an unheadered bunch of objects floating in limbo between pointers).

It's too bad you had to cancel, Optomon. This is currently the only extensive Castlevania hack I know of, and had I heard about it before this thread, you'd have had my support in seeing it through to the end...but alas.

This woulda' been great, as you obviously know what you're doing...which is more than I can say of myself. I also really enjoy that it's essentially a Metroidvania combined with the Classicvania engine; a sort of joining of two different eras instead of being fully one or the other was an awesome idea!

I wish you well in whatever you do.

Mineyl is a character I created about nine years ago; a fictional alter ego that exists in my mind. He is me and I am him; I want to be famous in the corners of the internet in which I lurk someday, so I'm trying to stay consistent and use it everywhere I go. :3

In fact, only my GameFAQs username is different, but people couldn't care less about usernames and anonymity there, so...

On the gameplay side, Mega Man 6 had a couple of unfortunate nuances that should not have even existed in it, honestly.

Nuance one is the slow screen transitions. They had this fixed in 3, slowed it down in 4, sped it back up in 5, and slowed it down again in 6. I'll never understand what was up with this inexplicable weirdness.

Nuance two is the fact that Mega Man cannot jump out of slides in 6. It might be water under the bridge to the everyday passerby, but to a seasoned veteran, it is extremely debilitating and can cause needless death.

I'm sure both of these problems are easily fixed by someone familiar with the games' coding, though. :3
