But... that's what makes vanilla hacks good...
What makes any hack good to me is how fun it is to play. I've noticed over time that people (especially the ones in the SMW hacking scene) seem to care far more about graphics and assembly gimmicks rather than raw, enjoyable gameplay. I'm not saying people shouldn't use the power given to them by the incredibly generous FuSoYa, but I'd rather not spend literally 10 extra hours on a single level adding visual flair that people won't even be paying attention to outside of screenshots.

Wait, what? MSU1 can be done on the real SNES...
Well, I'm not completely savvy on the technical details of MSU1, but I do believe that the very mention of 4GB of extra storage space would have been laughable and ridiculous back then...so you can imagine my skepticism.

I don't know...maybe it's possible. Are there any examples of commercial games utilizing this technology? I'm genuinely curious now.

(also, I hope you won't think I'm trying to be negative here. I'm really not! There are just certain things I get passionate about. xD)

Yes, please do that, Kawa. I'm genuinely interested in this MSU1 thing now... I had no idea you guys had an argument about it elsewhere, though. Sure shows much I lurk around here. :x

I am failing to see how this is possible. Wouldn't that kind of accuracy at least beg for TAS?

Wow, it's about time someone decided to hack Kirby!

I've been nerding out over Pokemon lately, what with the impending release of Black and White in a few months and all. I have a bad habit of erasing my files and starting the games over from scratch all the time (hey Gamefreak, let us have more than one save already. It's a bit overdue.), but this time, I'm actually going to try to do everything I can on my HeartGold version. Currently up to Victory Road...and I've actually been taking my time and catching everything I can rather than plowing through the game in +/- 20 hours. Haven't taken my time like that in quite a while, and I must honestly say it makes for a more wholesome experience (even if it's much more patience-demanding).

I've been addicted to Kirby Air Ride and its City Trial mode lately, and the other modes, even. The fact that it has a checklist of "accomplishments" just pushes me on further. I actually like it more than most racing games because of how simple the controls are.

Wow, someone's saying something GOOD about Kirby Air Ride for a change? I thought I was the only one who liked the game... Of course, it coming out the same year as Double Dash didn't help it at all.

My baby sister and I have run City Trial into the ground. It's one of the best battle modes in a multiplayer game ever. If it weren't for the forced time limit, I would even go so far as to call it perfect.

I don't get the hype with FFVI. I actually played it for a few hours, before I got utterly bored and stopped playing without even returning to it.
It probably helps to have played it back in the day...before everyone was faulting it for a lackluster sandbox experience in its second half and the easily abusable gameplay systems.

Still, though...if you think FF6 is bad or unworthy of its praise, then don't even go near FF7 or FF8. They're far worse in every respect with even more raving, rabid fanbases.

On topic: way too many games to list, really. The only game I can think of at the moment, though, is Golden Sun: The Lost Age if only for the fact that I'm getting the third installment for Christmas and it'd be a shame to be out of the loop on the plot (such a rarity for RPGs to have continuity, you know).

I've been indulging in some Zelda action lately, and I'm finally going to be adding both The Minish Cap and Twilight Princess to my list of cleared Zelda titles (bringing the unfinished list down to Majora's Mask, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks).

I truthfully should have had TP finished years ago, but it is SO DAMN LONG for a Zelda title that I always get sidetracked and stop playing after a while...but hopefully not this time.

Also playing the most recent Mario vs. Donkey Kong game, and I must say it's a lot more fun than my initial impression of it (I only picked it up to begin with because I wanted a non-falling block puzzle game for my DS). It's got a heck of a lot of content, too (over 100 stages, including hard mode versions of the levels once the game is cleared), and it even has a construction mode that is extremely reminiscent of Megaman Powered Up's (in that you can create and upload/download to/from the internet; of course, most of the custom levels I've seen so far suck royally, but that shouldn't discourage you). It should keep anyone busy for a good long while.

I thought Twilight Princess was fairly short for a Zelda game? Then again, the timesink elements of Wind Waker made TP seem shorter probably cause you didn't spend as much time on mindless quests.

Which version of TP? Despite what most fans seems to think, I actually really like the Wii controls.

I spend an average of 10 hours on most Zelda titles (though the first two are doable in 3-6 for me since I know them well), but first clears are usually 12-20 hours for me.

My first TP file had about 20 hours and I wasn't even halfway through the game...second file was 25 hours and I was about to go to Snowpeak. Third (current) file is at 17 hours and I'm going to Snowpeak now...so I guess it isn't too long provided you know exactly where to go, but there certainly are lots of extra cutscenes and running around compared to the other Zelda titles. I don't see anyone beating it (with equal skill/knowledge) faster than any of the first four Zelda titles...nor many others.

Also, Gamecube version all the way since I couldn't be bothered to wait to get a Wii. In spite of the protest of my friends, I have never once regretted this purchase decision.

I sent Kuja an outline of the next level he asked me to do (Abandoned City). That's been quite a while ago now, actually... He's told me his PC is having huge problems lately, though, so the hack won't have any major input on his end for a while.

I have to say I'm excited for this, but I'd rather wait and play the full version of the hack when it finally gets released. I've already entertained myself with earlier demos enough.

Ultimately, though, I find RM4MI more fun to watch than to play. Is that strange?

That stage looks very...annoying. Interesting, but annoying. Also, it looks like Puresabe is finally deviating from the consistent vanilla style he's been using (in this case, he's still using vanilla MM4 graphics, just from a different level).

Holy damn, that boss... Not quite as epic as Cossack stage 2, but still up there.

So I was playing Dark Dawn, going along and kicking ass.

I went back to reference the book to make sure I had everything... I missed one ever-so-important thing, and I can't get it because of lol-point-of-no-return. >:/

This is quite possibly the worst thing in RPGs ever. Neither of the original two Golden Sun titles did this (unless you count missing something in the original when transferring over to GS2, I suppose), so to suddenly see the third do it demotivates me from wanting to play it.

I'd rather not have to pull out and consult an FAQ while playing the game for the damn first time.

Well, Christmas and my birthday have come and gone and I got some new toys to play with.

First is Donkey Kong Country Returns. So far, it lives up to the hype it's generated. The physics feel floatier to me for some reason, but it'll just take some getting used to and I'll be golden. It sure would've been nice if I could choose to play as Diddy (I completely neglected Donkey in the original DKC). I've only played the first level so far, but if every level is at least as good as that...then woah.

Second is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Everywhere I've been on the internet has accused the game of being a God of War clone, but since I've never played that game, I could never see the resemblance because it seems more like an enhanced version of the two PS2 Castlevania titles. Now that I've finally gotten to play it, all I've got to say is wow...I'm disappointed. It's basically Lament of Innocence on steroids...and more linear. :\ I'll offer more input as I get further, but so far, I'm not impressed...and I had to repeat a boss fight like literally 15 times because I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do after I grab him to "finish him off."

Thirdly is Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (why they don't spell out "4" is beyond me). I was actually very hyped for this game before its release, but since I've played both FF3 and FF4 for the DS (and have yet to finish either due to my dislike of them) I tried to remain skeptical. Looks like my skepticism paid off; I can't say it's got me hooked in the least. Like the other two, I'll give it a while longer before placing my judgment upon it. I normally love the cutesy cel-shaded art style, but here it honestly seems to detract from the experience.

Well, something along the lines of "another year over and I still didn't get anywhere", perhaps...
I echo this confession. That's going to change this year for me, I think.

...although I do remember that Golden sun was unusually text-heavy even for a RPG game.

Extremely.

JRPG's dosen't appeal to me much...

Is there a kind of RPG you do like? Not to start an argument or anything, but I've recently realized that the term "JRPG" is completely ridiculous (not to mention I was always curious why this label sprang up in the last five years when some of these games are 20-30 years of age). See this video and its second part for the whole story.

If I'm remembering right, obtaining a reserve item on the title screen causes it to appear...so get a super mushroom and then a flower/cape and bam: instant box.

Actually no. he put the box there so it wouldn't look ugly on the title screen to have a floating mushroom with no box around it when he picked it up, since that's the glitch. (Invisible box)

Well, I guess I was half right. :b I've actually yet to alter the title screen demo, so it was just a shot in the dark. This is what happens when I don't bother to make sure I'm right about something. :|

I was randomly overcome with nostalgia and decided to pick up Final Fantasy IV again (SNES version) the other day and beat it. Now I'm working on Final Fantasy IX, my favorite of the three numbered PS1 titles that I've somehow only managed to beat once in the 10 years I've owned it. Gonna' try to change that.

Wow, I hope to God the d-pad and face buttons will be a little bit bigger than that. I don't have kindergardener-sized hands and it looks very awkward to hold with them placed off-center like that.

I'm excited, though. I just hope it doesn't do so poorly as its predecessor did. Also, I didn't see it, but is it backwards compatible with UMD games? It better be or that'll be a mark against it for me already.

The author no longer exists so there are no more updates.

Don't you think this is just a little misleading? I mean, I certainly still exist, even if I haven't posted here in nearly a year.
