Well, I'd go for probably a fast Dual-Core machine, probably one of the new Intel chips. Unless you're really multitasking, I don't think quad-core would be much of a worthwhile investment. At least 4GBytes of RAM on Vista SP1 (SP2 by then?), and the motherboard should preferably have a high an FSB as possible- you're looking at an nVidia Chipset if you want to use SLI'd videocards as well. I'd recommend a 1TByte hard drive, perhaps two in RAID 0 for a 2 TByte drive setup, RAID 1 if you want safe data. As for sound, unless you're an absolute audiophile, even a last-generation card or onboard may work, I used a Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit card on my oldest Pentium and it worked great, despite now being a several-years-old card. Monitors you may or may not need to buy another monitor or a DVI->VGA converter depending on what inputs your monitor has.

As for my dream machine, I'm not sure waht budget I'd have, probably a $1.5K to $2K budget at the end of this summer or something.

I always thought that having more vertical rather than horizontal space would be much more useful for programming though... in that sense, the whole 16:9-and-beyond video hype is rather counterproductive.

I find it's a tradeoff after a point, 900px is enough for me. After that, I find it more advantageous to have a second monitor to let me have two code pages open simultaneously.

In Six days, Something very important turns 8 years old. Some of you may not even know the person this involves, some will. Some may even know what this involves.

01-22-01 11:09 PM. That is the only clue.

Rox your layout is impossible to read

Nice job, Zidanerfox. Your Master Albert sprite/image on the title screen is very well done.

..Honestly, the SMW part of SMA2 isn't that much different. In some respects, it's even worse. Sure, the graphics and mario/luigi stuff is nice, but the GBA's sound hardware in way worse than the SNES' SPC700 hardware. The vertical resolution is lower, too. Frankly, I like working with the original SMW, because it can be updated to work just as well as the GBA port in it's strong areas.

The SNES can do vocals too, it just becomes an issue of designing the game engine to use them.

The DS was bought by money the little brother earned by stealing and selling his Smash Bros Melee, Gamecube memory cards, and almost all of his NES games to buy a couple DS of games. I think the kid deserved it.

Yep, all the way. I wonder exactly how the kid thought stealing all that stuff was acceptable in the first place?

Yeah, that's since ToP streams the samples on demand I always thought it sounded like a rubber duck getting squeezed or something, myself.

Randy: while the GBA does indeed have better graphics capabilities than the SNES, it becomes an issue of software capabilities- if it's a port, they probably didn't design the graphics engine (software side) to support many more tiles than the original SMW.

Panophobia, I would suggest A) brightening the center lines slightly and darkening the rest of the background grid colours and B) when it's a little more finished, refine those controls and fix the colours. IF you want any help, I've got a few years of VB6 experience under my belt in a variety of subjects (graphics/files/advanced stuff included). If you're interested, let me know.

SA2 had a glitch in it that was rather funny. In Final Rush, near the end of the first segment when you're approachign the cannon bore and the path slopes downwards gravitationally, you can jump off and fall waaaayyy down, landing on a pair of rails about halfway down the cannon. if you can land it, you can cut off a huge chunk of the level there.

Whoops!
