Posted by Kain I have a friend who makes reproductions looking into this, as I would like to have this hack carted as well. I sent him the Rockman 4: MI patch with the "Controller Glitch Fix" implemented that can be found by checking the thread about this on RHDN that Insectduel mentioned in his post. My guess is, it requires a larger chip? Not quite sure on that. what was the largest NES Game released? 512KB?? I'll post when I know more... |

Exactly what Zelda game are you wanting to hack? I'm going to assume Zelda: A Link to the Past, correct? As of now, all you have is an idea and no in-game material to present to the community. From personal experience, I'd come back with some work already done, this will get more folks around here interested in your project if they could see some of your idea's. Not trying to be rude in any way, just a simple suggestion. Good luck with your project.

Posted by Gavzilla1000 Man, I've been working on my hack of Mega Man 2 for a little over 4 years now... I always keep changing things out of boredom or just being insecure with various things. In short it's just a learning process I guess... some ppl like myself tend to over think things, and then get stuck. I'm in that situation now. Keep your head up and keep working on it. Take breaks when you feel the need and learn all you can. That's the best advise I can give you. Cheers! |

Posted by kuja killer I was under the impression Mega Man 3-6 used the same music engine? I remember discussing this with Infidelity when doing the music for one of my old, unfinished MM3 hacks... |

Really cool! Always great to see ALTTP get some love from the ROM hacking community! I like the GFX changes quite a bit actually. Any chance of you releasing a "vanilla" version of the hack with the new GFX and music inserted? I'd be willing to play through the original again with the "new look." Adds a fresh feel to the game IMO. Might also be a great way for you to get more feedback on the GFX as a whole... to actually see them in real time.
Great work, hope to see this progress. So many Zelda 3 hacks get started and end up in the scrap pile after awhile. Looking forward to this one. |

Posted by puzzledude This comment just rubbed me the wrong way. Not much profit can be gained from putting hacks on real carts to be played on real hardware. I've made SNES repros for many years and don't consider myself to be "back-stabbing" anyone! Materials to make these carts can be quite costly and time consuming... Finding the correct donor carts/boards, EPROM burners, labels, ink, shipping materials, etc. I would think that some of the good people in the ROM hacking community would be honored to know that old school gamers like myself liked their work so much as to have it reproduced on a cart to be played the way it was meant to be played, on an actual console. In fact, I've carted both of your Zelda 3 hacks (Goddess of Wisdom, Parallel Remodel) puzzledude, because I found them to be very well done, and wanted that experience of playing a "new" Zelda game on my SNES. The same goes for Parallel Worlds. I'm sure there are those out there that make carts purely for profit gain, I've seen it time and time again on eBay. But not all of us are like that. I've sold "Parallel Worlds" for around $30, making only around $5 profit simply for my time and effort in collecting materials and assembling the cart. Other hacks like Super Metroid Redesign require a little more work, as that hack uses two chips. Any profit I've made has always gone into buying more materials or donations to the emulation community for things like the Dolphin emulator and Project64. I think it really should be left up to the player if they really want a cart to be made. I realize everyone has a different opinion on this subject, and an entire thread could probably be made with all of those opinions heard. Places like timewalk games do have higher prices, but look at what you are getting with the games they have for sale. In most cases they offer boxes, manuals, maps and provide really nice reproductions. Back on topic, this hack looks really nice with the work done so far, and yes... Zelda 3 hacks are rare, especially good ones. I hope to see this one make it. |

I wasn't aware this program was actually functional as it's been awhile since I've read up on it. I would love to see Mega Man X get a full rework. Have you made any level edits yet other than switching palettes around? I think I remember seeing someone over on the RHDN forums posting about a MMX hack they were working on. I believe they had posted some images in the "screenshots" thread. Was that you or someone else? Either way, nice to know this is actually capable of making real edits. I'm going to have to mess around with this as well. Thanks for the info. |

I've liked all of your hacks DufarC and an my opinion, this is your best work yet! The music is amazing! Really looking forward to this one! Do you have any plans to revisit some of your older hacks down the road as far as tweaking them a bit with some of the new things you've learned? |

Posted by DurfarCPosted by amarcum81Thank you very much for these nice words. Some dude just wrote in my video that my music sucks in Spanish (4 times, so I deleted it), so I'm glad to have it confirmed that he doesn't speak for everyone. Some people... make you wonder huh? Seriously, I liked all the music I heard in the video. It does fit the Mega Man theme quite nicely IMO. I'm a musician as well, and have been playing guitar for going on 20 years now. I do a lot of home recording using various programs such as Cubase, Guitar Tracks Pro, and others. I mostly use Cubase for drum tracks as most are midi samples running through a virtual drumkit such as Drumkit From Hell, etc. When I was hacking I never got around to doing custom music for anything but it's something I have given quite a bit of thought to over the years, but it's been almost impossible for me to find any real time to devote to rom hacking due to real life stuff. I'm sure many rom hackers go through that and have to step away for awhile. Again, looking forward to playing your next hack. |

Posted by 32x1000 Sadly, I know nothing about doing music for MM2...One of the reasons my MM2 hack is on ice at the moment. However, being the nice guy that I am, and a huge Mega Man fan, if Infidel agrees to help you with putting music in this hack of yours, I'll slide him over a little $$ via paypal. |

Posted by 32x1000 Really! and I'm all for giving back to the ROM hacking community... I've had many long boring nights at work over the years and there's nothing like a good ROM hack to keep me busy during down time. Infidel did some music on my MM3 hack years ago, but nothing custom, he just inserted music from the other 5 Mega Man titles for me. So just maybe he might find the time to help out. Either way, I can try looking around on some other forums to see if anyone with the know how might want to step up and help out. You might want to post about your hack over at rockmanpm they have a section on their forums specifically for ROM hacks and fan-made projects. Might get someone interested. |

For the most part the custom tiles/GFX look pretty good. I can say I'm not a big fan of the palette you chose for the boss select screen.... a little too bland IMO. The fist few pics I'm going to assume are Heat Man's stage? The last two pics look really good. Is that Wood man? |

I think the custom GFX look pretty good. In the end, it's your hack so if your pleased with it, that's what matters. Not sure I get some of the tiles in the Heat Man stage, the blue tiles near the bottom?? Did you change the lava GFX? |

Interesting to see someone using my Proto Man patch! I never got around to doing all the things I originally wanted to do with it. Originally, I had wanted to make the Proto Shiled useful in game, like with Mega Man 9 and 10, having the shield deflect certain projectiles.
I also intended upon making Proto Man slightly weaker than Mega, this would tie in mostly for story purposes. Proto Man, being a "prototype" has a faulty core, thus making him more vulnerable to attacks from enemies. I do have a full hack of MM2 on my HDD though, all new levels and such... I just never released it do to the fact that I wasn't satisfied with not being able to code in the things I just mentioned above. I know the amount of damage Proto Man takes would be easy to tweak, it's just knowing the address in the ROM. I also wanted custom music but couldn't get very far with that either So instead I released the patch for both US and Japanese versions of the ROM thinking maybe someone would actually go further with it. I'll be sure to checkout what you've done. Might want to post up a few screen shots here in your thread if you want folks to give it some attention. Good luck to you and hope to see it finished one day. |
