So some of you know I've been working on this Mega Man 2 hack on and off for the past 2 years... It's so close to being finished but I keep running into problems.

The problem I'm having now is with the scroll data and enemy sprites. So here's what I need to know... if anyone out there can help, I'd be grateful!

I'm using the Rockman 2 editor from Rock 5 Easily:

1.) I had all of the scroll data set the way I wanted in the eight robot master levels. However, when I change scrolling data in the Wily levels, it also changes in the robot master levels or vice versa. For example: Heat Man's scroll data is linked to Wily level 1???? Is there a way to edit scrolling in the robot master levels without effecting the scroll data in the Dr. Wily levels or vice versa??

2.) Some of my enemy sprites are jumbled when playing the game. I guess its due to certain enemies being in levels they don't belong? Is there a setting on the editor to fix this??

For the most part, the editor is easy to use, and allows you more options then some of the others out there.... just wish Someone would release a translated version of it. Also, what is the purpose of the CHR button?? is it just there to show level pointers?

So, I modified the color with megafle x megaman 5 is from red to light red and dark gray to light gray, but when I hit the button or press the fire button to the original color of the hack megaman 5 Protoman.
(Google translate)

@KujaKiller - The Hack I think he's referring to is "Proto Man 5 (Mega Man 5 Hack) and I think it was done by Sephiroth X (SEPH X) a long time ago.

It's very incomplete... Mega Man/Proto Man's charge palettes are all out of whack changing from Blue, light blue gray....

I believe he's asking how to go about fixing them????

@FULMINE50 - If your interested in playing as Proto Man, I'm working on a hack for Mega Man 2 with custom graphics, new levels, & music. Looking to finish it up within the next few months if I can just find time. But for now, I've go a IPS patch in the uploader that you can patch to Mega Man 2 (U) or Rockman 2 (J) ROMs that will allow you to play as Proto Man. There are also a couple of Mega Man 1 hacks floating around out there with Proto Man as well.

Also, I wouldn't go around altering other hackers work.... that kind of thing doesn't go over too well around here

Does anyone know where the palette location for the "Boss Pose" screen is? It's not in with the Stage select palette. I have my stage select color set, but this is still 0F 2C 11 0F but I cant seem to find the correct location when running it through my Hex editor....

Working on my Mega Man 2 hack using Proto Man, I had a to base my sprite off of a custom Proto Man sprite I found over at sprites inc. Tried using the MM9 Proto Man sprite rip but couldn't fit them in Mega Man's sprite tiles. I figured in order to use the sprite, it would require work that I don't know how to do like re-pointing sprite tiles... blah blah blah...

As everyone knows, I originally started doing a Proto Man hack with MM3, but ran into the problem of Proto Man showing up during the ending and saving himself (saving Mega Man in the original game) and then there was the Break Man fight... eliminating these things or re-working them is way beyond my skill level... Hacking MM2 seemed the best way for me to go, but it would be nice to see a real Proto Man hack made one day....

@Insectduel so your doing a Proto Man sprite for MM4? Do you plan on doing a full hack or just a sprite edit?

Just letting everyone know that the Rondo of Blood translation project is finally finished after nearly 8 years. The patches can be found here:

For those interested, I've also compiled a "stand alone" version of this game for play on the PC. Since many people have had trouble running the game with Magic Engine. With the stand alone version, It's simple...just install, set your controller config, and play!! It's also fully translated. Just shoot me a private message if you would like to have the stand alone PC version. Otherwise, use the above link to the patches to patch your own .ISO files and use magic engine to play the game.

This is one of the few places on the net I actually enjoy checking out for ROM hacking related material. I often come here to see what new ROM hacks have been released and what new projects might pop up. I've seen a lot of things posted here way before they make it to the main stream sites like RHDN. In fact, I've seen hacks and other ROM hacking related stuff posted here that never makes it over to RHDN or other ROM hacking sites/forums. I usually check in 2 - 3 times a day.

Just don't make it freaking hell hard like parallel worlds please.

Agreed. Although I loved Parallel Worlds, sometimes that hack made me want to through my PC out the f***ing window! It's nice to see a new Zelda 3 hack... I just don't think there are enough of them around considering what the editor is capable of doing. Oh, and I'm diggin' the title screen! Really cool! Good luck with this hack.

So far, I've had NO PROBLEMS with playing this hack on real hardware via SNES Power Pak Flash Cart. Not to say there isn't any problems, as I'm only about half way through. But so far, so good.

I'm also sure by now that you know this hack is being sold over at gamereproductions.com. Phil, the owner of that site is a good friend of mine, and lives close by. I've bought many reproduction carts from him over the years before I learned to make my own and most other ROM hackers are ok with "their work" being sold on an actual SNES cart. Considering the amount of time and materials needed for making SNES repros, his prices are fair.

Donor carts are needed (Mostly old sports games will work) EPROM chips, ink for labels, blah blah blah. Over time, those materials get costly. My point is that it really should be up to the buyer to decide if they want to fork over cash for reproduction games. I've made Super Metroid repros for several users here... (You know who you are

Does anyone of you know about Rockman 4 Minus Infinity recent development? It had been 9 months, since the 1st May 2011.
Also what about the newer Rockman 2 hacks? Anything new worth to be mentioned?

Not sure what's going on with Rockman 4: MI

As for Rockman 2. I know WINED is getting ready to release Rockman 2: Hybird Hex (A.K.A. Rockman 2 MAX) and I believe Rockman 2: Claw was the latest Rockman 2 hack to come out. Insectduel posted a video on that a few posts back I believe

The overlay GFX look really nice. Really looking forward to this!! It's always nice to see Zelda 3 get some love from the ROM hacking community... there simply aren't enough well made hacks out there for this game. Nice work so far... hope to see this one finished.

Just completed the Zelda 3 Parallel Worlds Remodel. I must say you did an outstanding job on this. The overall experience this time around was much more enjoyable and felt more like a new Zelda game overall. There were times with the original version of this hack that I wanted to take a baseball bat to my PC. In short... I think this is how the hack should have been in the first place... but it's nice to have two versions out there for people to pick from.

If the remaining bugs and text issues could be fixed, this would be a more refined and polished hack, but don't get me wrong, it's great the way it sits now! Looking forward to more Zelda hacks from you in the future. Again, nice work!

I did patch the correct ROM file. I use the Nestopia Emulator. I'm thinking it might have just been a random "emulator bug" ...not sure but it works fine now. Didn't encounter any freezing this time around.

Quick question... is it possible to code the slide in Mega Man 2? I know this requires some ASM, and maybe even expanding the ROM a bit as well as mega man's sprite data. Has anyone attempted to do this? I thought I saw an IPS patch at one point on the 2ch boards for the Japanese version of the game but I might have been mistaken.

My goal was to make a version of MM2 with "remixed" levels in terms of using the slide... kind of like a "what if" the slide was already in the game kind of thing...

So, I'm no programmer, but if one of you guys could kind of point me in the right direction as to where to start with implementing the slide I'd be thankful. I'm reading the ASM guides I found with a quick Google search... can't say I understand a lot of it, but I'm trying.

Or if this simply just isn't possible, I'd like to know that as well.

Finally got a chance to sit down and play this tonight. Excellent hack... in fact, it's one of the better Mega Man hacks I've played in quite a long time! Loved the new sound FX and the music as well. So far I've only beaten 4 bosses and wanted to take time out to say thanks. I can tell you really put a lot of time into this. looking forward to your next hack. This one will be finding a permanent home on my Game Ex arcade cab!!

Hey could anyone re-write the Dragonoid sequence so the screen scrolls up instead of right?
I know it would be alot of ASM. But at least point me in the right direction?

Your probably going to have to try and learn NES ASM yourself to accomplish what your asking.. I'm actually trying to understand/learn it my self right now so I can implement the "slide" into Megaman 2. I believe romhacking dot net and data crystal have some documents to get you started. I did a Google search to help get me headed in the right direction, you might want to do the same if your serious about learning assembly.

Then again, there are some really good hackers around here who know their stuff when it come to hacking Mega Man games. If one has the time they may help you out.

KujaKiller and Infidelity have helped me out quite a bit in the past. But both of them are pretty busy with their own projects and probably very limited on working on anything else. I'm sure they have already seen your post and would/will reply when they get a chance.
Insectduel has also helped me out with various things. But If I heard correctly, he's no longer hacking. If your looking for someone to actually code what your asking, that probably wont happen unfortunately. But they may know of some updated documents/tutorials on ASM to help get you started. ASM takes time, and some of us never have the time to devote to understanding and learning it. I've been trying to learn it for awhile now and have yet to actually code anything worth mentioning here.

Have you posted over at RHDN? Are you working on a hack of MM2 or just wanting to get started on one?

EDIT: I use the Rock2Edit (Megaman/Rockman 2 level editor) I've never used any other editor and don't mess with scrolling options to much in the hack I'm currently working on. I'm not sure if what your asking could be done with an editor or not. It might be possible in one of the other level editors??? Not sure. Also, I believe the ASM or AI of that boss would have to be modified as well to accommodate the new scrolling scheme.
