Hmmm... how about Least I Could Do (http://leasticoulddo.com)? Its a daily strip, nice drawing, interesting story lines, and funny. Definitely one of my favorites. Lets see you give it a new one, hmm?

Haha. Ok. So Least I Could Do is yet another webcomic featuring the wacky misadventures of a social misfit. It's also yet another webcomic created by two people, ostensibly an artist and a writer. The funny thing about that is, I'm pretty sure some post-it notes got mixed up just before the comic started and the two of them ended up in the opposite jobs. Take a look at this comic - an attempt to fit two jokes into three panels, foiled by terrible delivery, mysteriously squished fonts, out-of-order speech bubbles, and unbelievably ugly art.

I don't want to just pick on individual comics; even a good comic (if such a thing existed) could have bad days. So let's look at the content in general. At the beginning of the archives, the main character's a completely unlikeable womanizer, who is obviously supposed to come across as witty and cool, but fails terribly because the writer can't write. Despite his repulsive personality, he frequently succeeds in picking up women because he's transparently living the juvenile fantasy life of his author.

At this point I get bored with the generic, mildly offensive proto-comic and jump through the archives to see how it evolves. It looks like it tries to emulate sluggy freelance and puts its characters in wacky pop-culture parody situations and I close the browser tab. I admit, I've never managed to read more than a few comics of this strip at a time. If you want me to give it a second look, link me to a specific storyline or something. What you think is the best part of the comic.

DEMON PLANET

You'll have to provide a link if it's an obscure comic. Google tells me this is the name of a star trek episode.

Real Life Comics.

I'm going to go grab some lunch and do some work, but I'll come back to this one.

This board at this time lacks posters that are capable of making funny / interesting threads that a broad range of people can discuss. I don't think we have a problem with stupid posting on this board, but we do have a problem with *inane* posting. It's like, if you don't have anything interesting to say, don't say anything at all. Maybe we should bring back banninations for "lack of content", as ambiguous as that was back in the day. (Lack of content is not the same as a lack of words, though.) Either that or I'm getting old and crankier.

there's no personality. shroomy/tomguy/acmlm/whoever were all human beings with discernable characteristics and opinions that were fun to read. these days, if you gave me a lineup of posts from blackhole, sukasa, and ailure with the names removed, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

these days

You're growing old. One of these days, you won't be able to discern your computer from a water closet anymore either.

I can hardly wait.

Hey, I'm not trying to insult you here. There's lots of reasons the whole staff and 90% of the regular users might blend into each other; maybe you just attract/select people extremely similar to you, or maybe you all just have trouble expressing yourselves. I'm just responding to the thread with one of the major reasons I, personally, don't find this board as appealing as I used to. I'm sure you don't want me here anyway, but I'm guessing a lot of other people are put off by the homogeneity as well.

That's a fair point. Indistinguishable isn't the best term, but the userbase is certainly more homogeneous than it was when I joined. Just as an example, are there even any active female users now? In more active days, a visitor to the board would see lots of active conversation on a variety of topics, and they may be tempted to register and give their input. At the moment, it looks like most of the discussion on the board is about the board itself*, and no outsider would be bothered to register and join in. These are just my impressions of the situation. It sounds like there's active general discussion in the IRC channel. Is there any way you can get this kind of activity onto the board? Or maybe you should just focus on the IRC channel and have the board act as an auxiliary entity.

What I personally want in a board as a user, and what you want as a board owner, are obviously very different things. I'm not expecting that to change. But I got myself into this discussion, so I might as well ride it out.

*I don't look at the rom hacking sections. If those are also ineffective at grabbing new rom hacking users I'm not going to guess at why.

An old guy and a minimum-wage teenager complained about a thing? Damn... really gives you cause to wonder. What the f*ck is up with our society, man.

Oh yes, because there's no possible evil reason behind sending your private data without your consent. Nope, none at all.

It's nice of people to use these sarcasm tags, because I can't tell when you're being sarcastic otherwise. Also it's very funny, because it makes use of some xml syntax to denote something that is not normally marked up with xml.
Anyway, sorry for derailing, just wanted to show my appreciation for this posting style. Keep it up. It might seem like I'm being sarcastic but I'm not.
