Hi, new here, but I like this hack a lot and decided to try my hand at doing some graphics here. I like the idea of the boiler man sprites posted above, so I tried doing a select screen photo with that in mind:

Note, this is based off another design, I'm sure it's pretty obvious.

Also matrixz check your private messages, I probably should have emailed you as this board doesn't exactly do a great job of letting you know you have new messages.

edit:

Retried this again, this time the mouth/eyes are a little closer to the sprite's idea, but I'm not sure if I like it as much as the other one.

I don't really like the horn-thing on top of his head in either of these though. I'm probably not able to accurately represent it well enough

Played this a bit more today just to do it, and found out something interesting. You get a separate set of weapons for the different methods to acquire them in the menu. If you go to "set game state" and get them there, you get unlimited ammo for most weapons + GOD MODE DASH, which goes in any direction, not just left/right. The other "complete arsenal" option only gives you the basic weapons. Just thought this was something of interest.

Some suggestions on things that have been bothering me:

After you defeat the mega man clone guy, the green text that comes up-- it should scroll a bit faster, seems slow. Maybe use a less loud sound for each letter in boss pre-battle dialogue too.

The boss room for Duplex Man is indeed kickass, I wish other games had backgrounds that neat for bosses.

As for the boss music, it's probably fine unless you really want something different. I didn't really like the Mega Man 10 boss music as .. boss music though.

Duplex Man's AI seems kinda nice, especially compared to a lot of other bosses in Mega Man history. I like the attack pattern changing after half health too.

edit:

I wrote a bunch of mega man esque music awhile back, here it is in NSF format if you want to listen.. If you want to use any of those themes, feel free as long as you credit me somehow as original composer... i can also share the source if you want, but it's MML (PPMCK) so the files that are generated don't really fit with your engine, I'm sure.

Oh and Rushjet1 it would be awasome if you let him use your other non-megamanish compositions. ^^

unless he'd retool them to sound like mega man songs (he'd have to as he's using the actual game engine) that'd be impossible in most cases, and in the cases it's not impossible, you'd want it to sound like a mega man song for a mega man game, right?

Hey, I am posting this at tons of forums to get the word out: I've released a "pay what you want" album on Ubiktune-- go check it out at
http://ubiktune.org/releases/ubi025-rushjet1-forgotten-music

These songs are all 8-bit Famicom songs (some would work on an NES but many use the Japanese-only expansion chips). I used both Famitracker and PPMCK to write them.

Have fun listening!

HUGE BUMP

Anyway, what happened with this? It looks really good and seems like it'd be fun. I'd at least want an unfinished IPS if it's completely abandoned :X

Supposedly Top Man's level looked like this before release at some point:

I was going to ask you if you knew about this or were going to add this in (instead of the flashing lights) but it's the final version of your hack.

I played through your hack today and it is pretty great. Some bosses are actually a lot harder (Wood Man doc especially). One thing I noticed is that no sound effect plays when Hard Man jumps up and crashes down. In the original game you could get it to play properly if you got the game to slow down (fire 3 snakes or a Gemini laser). In this one it just silences one of the squares.

Another thing - I know this one is probably impossible but there are Magnet Man Doc Robot stage tiles in the ROM too. Would have been cool to see that, but not sure what you'd actually put in the level. Other than Quint. Yeeeah no.
