Went to some trouble just getting the link to this place, and.. this is the first thread I reply to once I get here. ; (What's more.. I used to be a lurker, not a poster.. ehhh..) Well, I don't know exactly, I'd say Bisexual probably? I don't have any specific tendency towards homosexuality, and in many general cases I can't even fathom it for myself.. though there are certain exceptions I can see being made... certain types of guys I find attractive.. so yea, Bi I guess.

I'm an aspiring writer of sorts.. So the current handle I'm using here happens to be from one of many characters in a story of mine, this one resembling me closest in personality and style so.. yea, it just sort made sense to use it.

Heh, kind of hard to believe that after all these years the board would end up in a shape like this. =P Yea, its had its hard spots before, and this might not even count as the worst by many, but still.. the specific outcome here was rather unique and not something I particularly expected..

On the bright side though.. I somehow see this all for the better. The best of the community will stick around here (or at least on both) while the rest will drift over on the other side of things.. sort of like a fresh start for all of us, a breath of clean air.. Hell, it must be if it got ME posting.. I've lurked Acmlm's for years now, posting a handful of times total under various misc usernames.. I probably know most of the regulars here fairly well, though I realize none can say the same 'bout me, heh.. I figure the whole mess actually gives me a good reason to get involved with the community a bit more personally though, long overdue mayhap...

To get off my little tangent there real quickly though, I don't see why ||bass really insists on having "Acmlm" in the board title anymore either, especially if they're wanting to rename it anyway.. I mean how many variations on "Acmlm's Board" can you really make that don't sound weird anyway?

I used to try and keep everything as compact as possible on my desktop.. so having a lot of things open would irk the hell right out of me. These days though, I'm much more inclined to have lots of windows open like that, especially when I'm working on any of my misc projects.. ya know, those projects you never end up finishing.

They want acmlm in the title so they have an excuse to keep acmlm.org... at least, that's my guess.

Possible, but he owns acmlm.org regardless, so it isn't as though he is truly bound by the name "Acmlm" when it comes to the forum.. And as I said, I can't really think up any catchy (or otherwise) forum names that would still be eligible to holding the "Acmlm" name.. I mean, Acmlm is just a bunch of random letters with no real pronunciation after all.. Pretty hard to mzake a "new" name based around it.

Posted by Mervill
I think he wants to keep Acmlm in the name just because of the overall Reputation Acmlmboard has as a place to "live the fun posting experince" if i may qutoe the slogan

Of corse i may have no idea what im talking about, i joined after this hole thing happend... Still dont know what even happend or why

It is possible that they want to keep the Acmlm name because they see the forum there as being the "original" Acmlm's.. but really, it isn't the location that makes it what it is, it is the people.. And they've already lost a fair amount of members, including staff..

Besides, ||bass has been quoted numerous times as saying he never really cared about the board, so I can't see him giving a rats ass about the "Acmlm Reputation" if you catch my meaning.

Personally, I think having Wii/XBox Live spots is a decent idea... at the very least the AIM spot should be brought back.

I like the Wii/XBox idea, that's kind of neat. Though probably more of a novelty than anything else. (Since we already have a thread dedicated to listing these, and not everyone would make use of these extra fields in their profiles.)

Am I the only one who thought of Tommathy when I saw the corner was left unnamed? Dunno, he just just sort of popped in my head, probably because he made some of the more amusing or interesting threads in the previous incarnation of the corner..

Tarale's Corner seems to have a nice ring to it though, I'll admit..

One of these days I'm going to have to really finish the original YI.. that is, so then I can go and play one of these neat looking hacks for it..

I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being the deathknell of board1's ROM Hacking forums... at least, I expect a lot of the more experienced ROM hackers may simply decide not to bother with coming back, and it'll end up with mostly n00bs...

I don't see why ROM hackers can't visit both forums. However, even though it's only been like less than a day, I don't hold out much hope for the "old" forum if it's got guys like mortalkenshi posting there.

As it stands, anyone who missed the split or happened to not be "in the know" of this place won't likely have any idea we exist. Links to here have been disappearing on their end as well, so eh.. It "is" a pity that the hacking community had to get mixed up in all of this, but not much can be done about it now.

Need more information really. Does this happen with every game you play? Does it "only" happen with games? You mentioned your video card never went above 60 degrees, but how is your case ventilated as a whole, well I presume? What OS are you using, and blah blah, etc etc.. More info.

I'm very impressed with what you've done here.. It is fairly rare that we see hacks of this magnitude these days, and this one certainly does look fun. I'll definitely continue checking in on this until its release, when then I'm sure I'll have a few more kind words to share.

Well really, it is pretty hard to weigh in the practical use of coins without (at least somewhat) running the risk of giving users an excuse to spam. To be honest though, the novelty of having coins mean something is worth more than the concern of some offbeat user posting nonsense in a bunch of places.. (I think most people here right now are well behaved, and generally newcomers with the spammer attitude don't last long enough for it to matter anyway..)

The scheme idea is probably one of the best too.. Might even give some incentive to making a lot more of them, so you have a wide selection at varying prices depending on complexity and such..

I've noticed several typos that I've somehow missed in my posts here already.. I'm a bit strict with my own grammar and spelling, so if I see an error I tend to fix it immediately.. and ehh, can't do that right now, so it has made me a bit more careful in my last few replies..

At the current rate of posting, I'd say 50 pages won't take too much longer..

I'd have to agree with Ailure, it looks much better than what I'm used to seeing here for someone just starting out, but.. There is quite a lot of room for improvement as well.. For example, the flat straight edges along the top of the second screenshot would do much better if it were.. well, not flat and straight. Hard edges like that are kind of bland, uninteresting really.

There are numerous other things I could spend the time criticizing, but for now I'd say just to work on making the islands seem more shapely and go from there based on the opinions you get from it.

I'm a harsh critic, so to put it simply.. "bleh."
The overworld is far too box shaped, making it very bland and uninteresting.. The title screen is a bit.. eh, the colors going on there don't really appeal to me, and from what I gather (I'd need to see it in motion though) you've tried to make it look fancy by having Mario pull off some tough jumps and what not? (He looks to be bouncing off several things in midair with no ground below..) I tend to find that sort of thing kind of iffy, since it can give the wrong first impression on the difficulty and style of your hack. (Besides, simple is sometimes the best form of art..)

The picture with the pipes and the initial message is.. uh, ugly really. Sorry, it just never looks good to have a lot of pipes lined up like that.. It's line having pinstripes of green running across the screen, not very nice.. Then for the level design in general.. I don't know, it doesn't look any better from the rest to me, though I admit I haven't played it myself to judge it wholly.. Still, it just doesn't come out and grab me in any way..

All in all.. I think you need to be more creative, and get more used to using LM before you can make something that really shines. As it stands right now, it just doesn't seem the least bit interesting enough for me to download. (Albeit, you've got to impress me pretty well to get a download out of me, but you can get a lot of kinder words with more effort even without managing that.)

I agree, incentive to post is never a bad thing.. I don't personally believe in having too strict of rules concerning it either. Mind you, I've been part of the administration of several forums in the past, and have as such enacted the same strict rules I am now not so fond of.. it is reflection and time that has made me see that - really, what a forum community needs from its administration is not so much control and regulation, but instead more involvement and.. fun to put it simply.

The administration should always deal with blatant crap being thrown about or dealing with the idiotic member here and there.. but a little (amusing) spam doesn't hurt anyone really, and if the members as a whole are having fun then.. that's what is important, right? Can't lose sight of that, especially not with the motto here of living the fun posting experience, heh..

All and all though, as I said.. I think most everyone here is pretty well behaved, so.. yea.. Making the coins have a practical use outweighs the concern of any misconduct among the posters popping up.. And again as well, any newcomer that blatantly spams everywhere just for the coins isn't likely the type of person whom will be around here long anyway.. So I'd say to go ahead and implement some of these ideas, especially the scheme one, that one just seems natural.

I know what you mean.. I've glanced over there on and off, and it just.. really looks like a travesty of sorts now. I'm not being biased in the matter either, it just seems a bit ridiculous over there right now.. And yes, in stark contrast this place feels very welcoming and nice.. And it oddly does seem to have that old time charm from the older Acmlm days.. or just, something.. Hard to pinpoint, but it is an altogether nice feeling.
