Sorry if this has been asked before, the forum lacks a search button... but I'd like to know the defaults for all the extra parameters on the missile weapon. Or, failing that, advice on how to make a good missile. |

What I want it to do is behave identically to the original, except exploding into more missiles. This is why I wanted to know what extra parameters behave like the default; it gives me a baseline to make edits. I'm sure you can appreciate the difficulty of a task as simple as "just make it go a little faster" when you don't know how fast it was to begin with. Come to think of it, why isn't it possible to just change whichever parameters you feel like with most other weapons?
UNRELATED TOPIC: I can't get BGMs to play in my Try files. It seems like Fraxy is completely ignoring the line. Help? |

So I've finally finished a Fraxy enemy I think might actually approach the level of quality I've seen on the Compendium. Well, no, probably not. In any event, I'd like to post it here and see what your reactions are, hear how everyone thinks I'm doing, get some advice for my next boss, etcetera, etcetera. The boss is inspired by the Stage 3 boss of Super SWIV (Firepower 2000 in the US).

Wow, it's that bad huh? Here I was thinking I had used a Specify Rolling Panel pretty cleverly if nothing else. I'd have preferred to be told that I'm shit and I should give up before I become too committed to Fraxy rather than being outright ignored to death. I guess those 55 views were just advertising bots. |

Posted by NightKev During testing I found myself dodging the energy ring by flying outside its range. The brick pieces were added to prevent you from running away, forcing you to play the boss as intended. Also, if you think it's too easy try it on rank 100. The firing rate on the orbiters increases by one frame every 25 ranks. |

Really? Huh. As someone with the reflexes of a drunk cow and a powerful if slow analytical mind it can be very difficult for me to balance for difficulty in any real-time enviroment. I balance check at rank 50 (which I feel should represent "moderate to hard" difficulty) and only concern myself with bugs at other ranks. |

There appears to be plenty of great bosses made by the community, but not really a lot of try files. I credit this to the boss editor being very intuitive with a great WYSIWYG aspect to it, while tries are more akin to programming, have no editor, and require a completely different set of skills.
I'm not likely to ever be a great boss creator. My reflexes are piss-slow so I cannot balance difficulty very effectively, and while I can create functional bosses as well as anyone else the aesthetic appeal of said bosses will never match what I've seen on the Compendium. I do have one thing going for me however, and that's try files. I have quite a programming affinity and I find tries to be quite easy to make. I've begun work on a massive beast of a try with some major RPG elements and plot thrown in, and I was wondering if anyone would like to make enemies for it. It's a very ambitious project but I am confident that I am up to the task. |

The thing about your try (and this isn't necessarily a bad thing!) is that it's really nothing you couldn't enact yourself in free play. I know shmups aren't really the industry standard for engaging story and character development, but I feel it just needs a little more... I don't know. Stuff. Of course, I can't comment on the stability of Fraxy. I know what should be possible within the engine, but have no clue whether the whole thing will flop like a house of cards if it's actually pushed. I do know that 20100319Beta has this odd glitch where shooting your enemy will disrupt its attack patterns and that doesn't bode well for much of anything at the moment. I'll see if I can put together a demostration of some of the more interesting things I found were possible, but it might be a while. Real life. You know how it goes. EDIT: Also, you used RPG Maker music for your try? That's hilarious! |
