Hi. I was on the old board back in '06, but I never did anything productive. Summer's usually kind of boring for me; I decided to dust off my copy of Lunar Magic and TilEd2002, so hopefully I'll complete a SMW hack.

If there are still files in the folder, open the folder, press CTRL+A to select all of its contents, and try to delete them like that; then, try to delete the empty folder from the parent folder. You may be forced to do this recursively if the error pops up when deleting folders within the folder. I find that this works sometimes, and if it doesn't work, it can at least tell you about corrupt files and cyclic redundancy issues.

- Zelda 1 music to replace each track in the game. (Trust me, this would make a big difference).

To each their own, but I actually kind of liked the Zelda 2 music, besides the overworld tune. If you want to hear all kinds of boring, though, listen to the normal battle music and the bossfight music in the Japanese version.

- ASM hack - when you get the crystal at the end of the dungeon, the screen closes in, like when you get a Triforce piece in the first game.

No real objection here (hint: you're actually returning the crystals in Zelda 2).

- Animated Water for the overworld.

The Japanese version actually had animated water, if you want something to base your animation on.

- ASM hack - Once you obtain the boots, hold down select and Link can run faster.
- Once you obtain the gloves, Link can lift certain objects.

YES. Though instead of select, perhaps the attack button.

- Gannon may be in the game. What's a Zelda game without classic Gannon?

The plot of Zelda 2 actually addresses this, but I'd see no reason not to include Ganon if you can write him in.

- Link's Awakening/Oracle of Ages/Seasons elements.

I'm not sure what this means.

- Two colored tunics - Red and Blue, Red for offense, Blue for Defense.

If you did this, would the Shield spell be graphically represented? How?

- Secret waterfall that you can go through to get a better sword (like Zelda 1)

Wasn't the levelling system was supposed make the need for better swords obsolete? On the topic of the levelling system, do you think it'd be reasonable to make it more like the Japanese version -- when you level up, you can select any of the skills to increase, at the penalty of your two highest skills dropping to the same as your lowest skill when you get a game over.

I don't really have objection to the other ideas. If you're sure you can do all of this, then go for it. I'd love to play a new Zelda 2 hack.

I am about to attempt to insert HDMA effects into my hack using Ice Man's HDMA insertion tutorial, but the location that the tutorial states that the HDMA code should be pasted at ($981F2) in my hack is already occupied by some data. Is it possible to paste the HDMA code in a different bank and still be able to use it?

Left: Revised layer 1 palette and BG candidate.
Right: Same, but with the BG vines' red values reduced. This seems to look less flat.

Sukasa: I tried that, and nothing seemed to happen. Upon looking closer, I realised that Ice Man's tutorial does not copy the entire Level Attributes Table. Trying to copy all of the HDMA data and the table results in my ROM being completely unbootable. I have open banks that I could copy this data to, I just need to know where the pointers that should be changed are (or how to find them), and whether finding/changing these pointers is a realistic task or not. Do you, or does anyone else, know about this?

Note to self: the HDMA Kit's data starts at $98200 ($13:8000).

I'd like, if possible: a sprite that immediately occupies the item box when touched, and while it is there, keeps mikeyk's air meter at maximum.

Actually, it's a BBC show made by Peter Serafinowicz (you may recognise him as Pete from Shaun of the Dead) that is meant to parody science educational shorts from the seventies and eighties. I find it very entertaining.

While I never really got that far in this game (the first boss I found was B/W/W, and I couldn't beat Wily), I found this game pretty entertaining. I chatted with Kayin once on Espernet, and he was a pretty nice guy.

Nice. I liked Pokémon Gold but my cart's battery died before I got around to beating it. That new PokéDex is pretty awesome looking. = o

I'd never given much thought to how I would die — though I'd had reason enough in the last few months — but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this. I stared without breathing across the long room, into the dark eyes of the hunter, and he looked pleasantly back at me. Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to count for something. I knew that if I'd never gone to Forks, I wouldn't be facing death now. But, terrified as I was, I couldn't bring myself to regret the decision. When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it's not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end. The hunter smiled in a friendly way as he sauntered forward to kill me.

...

I'll write a serious response when I get a chance.
