Mine's just a cropped and resized picture of a dragon I found online. The full picture has wings and other awesomeness. ____________________ |

You should leave it on pounds, it's the way the game was designed.
Also, the company performance graph is the most important. ____________________ |

Posted by Koitenshin +∞ That was the problem I was having... there's really no set goal. I didn't really get into the game until I played online, where I made myself a goal of "get a high ranking". Basically, you find two (or more) points and you connect them together with transport. That's pretty much it. The best way to start out if your a newbie is to find a coal mine, and connect it to a power station, using a train. That will give you a regular source of income. To do this, you first build a station next to the coal mine (don't worry if the station says "accepts: nothing", coal mines don't "accept" anything, they "give" it to you ). Try to build your stations with a minimum of 4 tiles, so your whole train will fit in the station at any given time. Next, build another station next to the power station (This time, make sure it says "accepts: coal". It's fine if it accepts additional things too). Then connect the two stations with railroad tracks. Diagonal tracks cannot go up/down hills... only straight tracks can. After that, build a depot somewhere. It's a good idea to have more than one; I usually place one by each station. Don't place depots adjacent to diagonal track, as that tends to create tracks that turn at a 90 degree angle, which trains refuse to do. Then, click on your depot, and click add new vehicles. Select any engine you feel will suit this task. It's a good idea to go with a freight or a "freight or passengers" engine, and build it. A window should then pop up. This window is pretty much a viewport/control panel for that particular train. You can open this window at any time by clicking on your train. When it's in the depot, just click on the train engine in the list that comes up when you click on the depot. Then you need to add some cargo carrying cars/hoppers. The amount you need depends on the amount the coal mine produces. Click on the coal mine and check the "production last month" value. Now go to your train's window and click on the details button (it has a picture of a note with a folded corner). Now click on total cargo. This list will show you the total amount of cargo your train is capable of carrying, and is currently carrying. So go back to the vehicle building window, and find something that can transport coal, like a mineral hopper or something, and build it. Keep building this until your train can carry around the same amount of coal that the factory can produce. You won't get the exact number, most of the time, so don't worry about it, just get it close. Look at the small number to the right of your train in the depot window. This is how "big" your train is. Take that number, divide it in half, and round it upwards to the next integer. So if the number is 5, divide it in half to 2.5, and then round *up* to 3. This number is how many tiles your station must be, in length, in order to fit your entire train. Always try to get your stations to fit the entire train. That's why I usually build with a minimum size of 4. If your train is smaller than the station, don't worry. Once you're satisfied, you can close the windows, but keep the train's control panel window open, or reopen it if you've closed it. Click on the orders button, which is the button above the details button. It should show an orange arrow pointing diagonally. In the window that pops up, you will be setting the orders for the train to follow. In this case, click "goto", and then click the station next to the coal mine. Click on the item that pops up in the list, and then click "full load". This will make the train wait at the station until it is carrying the maximum amount of cargo it can carry. Next, click "end of orders", so that this next order will appear underneath the first order. Click "goto", then click on the station next to the power station. Then click on the new item in the list, and click "unload". This will tell the train to unload all of its cargo. You can probably get away without telling the train to "unload", but it's generally a good idea for beginners. Now your train should be ready! Close the windows and go back to the train's control panel. In its status bar, there should be a red flag on the left, and in the center, the word "stopped" in red. Click on this status bar. This is how you tell your train to "go". Clicking on it again will stop the train, and the train will do nothing until you tell it to go again. The train should come out of the depot, and go to the first station on its list of orders, which should be the station next to the mine. If it's not, don't worry. After the train loads up on coal, it should now take it over to the other station, next to the power station. When it arrives at the station, you should hear a cha-ching! and see your income appear. If you don't, check to make sure that the station accepts coal, by clicking on it. If it doesn't, you need to put the station closer to the power station. So there you have it. A quick tutorial on how to build a train. This isn't limited to just coal and power stations, this works for anything. Forests and sawmills, oil and refineries, farms and factories, and lots more. ____________________ |

If you look at ASCII, you'll notice that before the numbers is the shift+number symbols.
On the c64, " was shift+2. Let's see, so what comes after ! (shift+1) in ascii? Also, on the c128, they fixed the arrow keys, so there were 4, one for each direction. Granted they were on the topmost row of keys, and the said dual-directional keys still were on the keyboard, but that's not the point. ____________________ |

Yeah, server admins really seem to frequently do shit like this. Before this fiasco, we had a similar thing going on with ErkDog, a past server admin. Everyone should start doing background checks on server admins.
Edit: Also, the sonic community seems to be full mostly of underage kiddies who have temper tantrums whenever they don't get their way. ____________________ |

I used to think different people had differently colored pee.
I also used to think that I could "help" the sky be bluer by putting some blue food coloring in some water in a cup, and leaving it on the window sill to evaporate. ____________________ |

Posted by MaxKnight Oh! I thought you meant that if a forest (raw industry) was nearby, it'd use it automatically. Instead, that's the tropical sawmill's behavior. Either way, it's a bug and will be fixed in tonight's nightly. Edit: Also, it was Ailure who told me this. (citation!) ____________________ |

Posted by Kirby Mario That's the weight multiplier for freight (rhyme!). That is something that is set by the person running the server. More weight = trains have more trouble going uphill, pretty much. ____________________ |

I got my ass handed to me. Oh well, now I know Hiryuu's strategy, so I can practice it.
I kinda hate it though, I wasn't doing as well as I could have for some reason. Laggy connection? Nervousness? Crappy level selection? Who knows. ____________________ |

Well duh, the physics are off... you can wall-jump. Did anyone notice that? It seems intentional, because you make dust as you slide down the wall.
And yeah, It's pretty cool, but it got really repetitive. I think I might know how the levels were done. Imagine a bunch of pieces of paper each with a level fragment on them. Then randomly assemble the pieces of paper. So basically the level is just a big string of level-fragments. The problem is the lack of variety, and the levels all seem the same, and really basic. Better levels would be nice. ____________________ |

Posted by setz Same. But it kinda depends on what my surroundings are... At home, I mainly use my speakers, except in the infrequent case that I would like to listen to music through headphones. At college, I live in a dorm. However, I'm certainly NOT living in a dorm next year, so my behavior here could change, but my roommate tends to get "hyper" when I'm listening to music or sound-intensive programs. When I try to listen to music, he tends to start humming/whistling/singing his own songs over it, even though he says he doesn't mind when I listen to music. Thus, when I listen to music, I use headphones a lot more often here. I especially use them when my roommate is being annoying. Not to mention, I have a huge tendancy to listen to the same song repeatedly for a long time, so when I do that, I wear headphones, so he doesn't get annoyed. However, I'm trying to get a living space where it's 1 person to a bedroom, despite multiple people living in the same place, like an apartment, so maybe I'll fall beck to my speaker ways. ____________________ |

I originally registered June 3rd, 2001, at 2:06 PM.
I feel so old. I'm like a huge oldbie here. Anyway, I had a huge period of inactivity, which lasted through almost all of the 3rd incarnation, so I didn't reregister until late. Also, what happened to Bouche? I haven't seen him in ages. ____________________ |

Jesper went off to make software under the name "Wootest", and he's still hosting my site.
Frank15 (apparently) moved on to a TPiR forum (makes sense, right? ) Jizuko can be found at ||board ProtoK occasionally pops into IRC Vagla I think was on the Zophar.net forums, but that was maybe a year ago. Also, where's The SomerZ? Kirbynite's here, and I think MobleSprout was on justus, but not here. And I didn't know Monarx changed his name, so for the longest time I was wondering where he went. Edit: Blah! Freaking ! ____________________ |

Mine never went down the stairs right. It always went down a few stairs, and then just kinda slipped and then fell down the stairs. ____________________ |
