Posted by Xkeeper How *DID* I forget those? Those used to be my all-time favorite candy! In the summers, when I was at the pool, I'd get those from the concession place, since they sold a lot of candy. They stopped stocking them at some point, and I couldn't find them anymore. It's just like Sobe Love Bus Brew (best chocolate drink of all time!)! But the convenience store at college stocks them, so I can get them every now and then. I used to like Spree too, and the same thing happened to that. Weird, I wasn't sure if it was still around. Also, the thing about the butterfinger bars is that the peanutbutter stuff get's completely STUCK to your teeth. I like it for some reason. Twix aren't bad either, I especially like the peanutbutter kind. I guess I like peanutbutter, huh? ____________________ |

I put my openbraces on the same line as the function that needs the openbrace.
void burp() { } struct burp { }; if (burp) { } else { } for (int burp = blah; burp < infinite; burp++) { } I always prefered that over putting the openbraces on the next line. I'm not quite sure why. ____________________ |

I'm afraid he'll run out of material. I mean, there's a lot of stupidity, but not *that* much. I mean, I could be wrong, but still, I woulnd't care if he made the occasional non-idiot comic. ____________________ |

I don't like the mosquito one either, it feels like my head's resonating.
I can hear all of them, and the last one faintly (might be my speakers). I have excellent hearing, and I'm 18. ____________________ |

Isn't it cheating if they use anti-aliasing? Because then you can have sub-pixels and stuff. ____________________ |

I used to say char like "charcoal", but now I say "car" as in automobile. My CS teacher from highschool pronounced it "car", so that's why. To be honest, I almost never need to say it aloud (kinda like with scsi and gui), so I just only need to read it. ____________________ |

1024x768 on my 17" LCD screen, which is capable of 1280x1024.
My eyesight isn't perfect, so I start having trouble seeing reliably when the resolution's too high. Also, who needs *that* much desktop space? ____________________ |

The physics of that are just confusing to me... I keep thinking they'll fall throught the ice at some point, fall out of the water, and some how end up in the sky. ____________________ |

My previous monitor kinda was dying, but it didn't actually die... I replaced it before it had a chance to. It was 5 years old by the time I replaced it. One day, it was in power save mode, and when I woke my computer back up, the screen never came back on. It just stayed off. The light turned on, but the screen itself didn't work. It made the hum noise when it turned on, but it didn't make the static clingy noise. After an hour, it started working again. After that, random bars of garbage would flicker on the screen occasionally. Not very frequently though, it'd do it in short bursts. A few months later, it did the thing where it stopped working again, and then I said "ok, that's it, I really need a new screen now." An hour later, it started working again, but the next day, I still got a new screen, the LCD screen I use now. It's great.
Back when I had a laptop, I guess I used it too much and the screen just sorta died. It still displayed stuff, but it looked like it had a bad connection with the video card... like, I had to kinda twist the screen a little bit to get it to display something, and then whatever was displayed just kinda froze and faded out. ____________________ |

I thought psychology was a useless major. You learn stuff, but you can't *use* it for anything practical.
My major is CS, which is probably one of the mose useful majors around. (maybe not, but still, it has a lot of possibilities in the future) ____________________ |

Well, let's see...
I was 6 or 7 when I first started with QBasic, so ~1995-96. Next, I learned VB, but I can't exactly remember when. I think it was somewhere in 1997-98, when I got my first actual PC computer, so I was 8 or 9. Then somewhere in 1998 (age 9), I found a trial version of Klik & Play. Later, when I got a laptop with Windows 98 on it (same year), I got The Games Factory which was awesome, since it allowed *SCROLLING*! So at this point, I took a break from programming. This was also around the time I found Acmlm's Board. Later, I wanted an acmlmboard, and wanted to learn php, but I only learned some bare-bones basic stuff. That's pretty much what I know today, but anyway... Around 2000-2001 (age 11-12), I found the newer installment of KnP/TGF, called Multimedia Fusion. (by the way, KnP/TGF/MMF are all pretty much the exact same thing, all developed by the same company, but each successive program has more and more features than the previous one.) In 2003 (end of my freshman year in high school, age 15), I signed up to begin taking Computer Science (called Computer Mathematics) classes, starting next year (Sophomore year), so I knew we'd start with qbasic, so I started getting back into qb. My programming skills were greatly improved since I had practice making *games*, so I knew what I had to program to get the elements of a game working. 2004 (latter half of sophomore year, age 16), we finished qb, and went onto vb. I already knew vb, so I was amazingly great. Over the summer, I was still using MMF at this point. 2004 (beginning of junior year, still age 16), we started learning C++, which was my absolute first high-level language ever. I liked C++, so I started coding for fun in my spare time. Everyone in #rom-hacking was urging me to dump GDI in favor of SDL, so I did. I got SDL working great, actually, and I was getting some games working in it. I think I was still doing some occasional fooling around in MMF. 2005 (latter half of junior year, age 17), we started learning OpenGL. I did just fine, but I wasn't too into 3d programming, so I mostly stuck to 2d in my spare time. I still don't use OpenGL today, I just use SDL. I think at this point, I somewhat stopped using MMF. 2005 (beginning of senior year, still age 17), we started learning Java. I knew right from the start that this was the beginning of a wonderful, beautiful, ARRRGHHH relationship. Java is strict, and I was so used to C++, but Java did things differently, and I generally don't like it. I still stuck with C++. Hell, my end-of-the-year project (somewhat buggy, incomplete, but if you want to try it out, go ahead) was written in C++ still, since we were allowed to use whatever language we wanted, even QB. Most people who used QB for their project mostly used it because you could do graphics in it. Since I was armed with the knowledge of SDL and doing graphics with it, I used C++. Up to today, 2007, my second semester of college, my classes use Java, but I *still* do my 'hobby' programming in C++. And that's my history! ____________________ |

You should never cite an encyclopedia for research. (Not just Wikipedia, but ANY encyclopedia)
Encyclopedias are meant to just give basic, general information on a subject, and then they have citations for sources just in case you want to find out more. Another thing is that Wikipedia is editable by *anyone*, and sometimes the articles that are created are biased or something. For example, if you wanted to do a research paper about the recent fiasco with bass and xk, you probably wouldn't want to base your information solely on the AcmlmWiki. But anyway, what's with all the sudden hate for Wikipedia? I go there a lot to look up some stuff I don't know occasionally. It's useful. ____________________ |

Let's see here:
Incarnation 1: 1177 Incarnation 2: 254 Incarnation 3: 85 ||board: 0 (not even registered) Here: 110 (as of this post) So by now, I have a cumulative total of 1626 posts. Also, I haven't been *this* active on the board since the first incarnation. It took me about two months to get to 85 posts on incarnation 3, and already in a few weeks, I've surpassed it. ____________________ |

Posted by Ailure That's a perfectly acceptable way to use an encyclopedia. I'm just saying, the information in an encyclopedia should NEVER be the *only* information you use. At least one of the non-encyclopedia sources should be used as well if you're planning on seriously doing a research paper or something. ____________________ |
