Am I terribly mistaken when thinking that the DDR RAM modules used in Macintoshes are exactly the same (voltage, general compatibility, etc.) as those used in PCs?

Yeah, because my dad has 2x512 that used to sit in his G5. The label on the box contains the letters "G5" or "MAC" or something, I can't remember exactly what. The sockets seem to be exactly the same, though.

Uhh... As far as I know, each type of RAM (DDR, SD, EDO, etc.) has a different socket. Of course, being faster and faster, I guess you are right.

I am mostly afraid that there might be some difference in the voltage that the PC/MAC RAM blocks need.

If you can't buy a computer without an OS, you should probably get Vista. If you have any problems with it, you can always install a *cough*pirate version*cough* of Windows XP until you feel like taking your Vista license into use.

Ok, so I have this laptop. It comes with a Windows XP Pro license. No disk. On the C: drive, there is an i386 folder containing the installation files. I want to to make an installation CD from it.

Here's what I did:

Made a copy of the folder.
Slipstreamed SP2 onto it.
Made a CD image with the files and a proper boot sector.
Burned the CD.

Here's what I got:

A bootable Windows XP installation CD. It loads up fine, until... When it is supposed to start loading all the different drivers (you know, before you get to partition the harddrive) it instead tells me to insert the floppy disk, "Windows XP Professional CD-ROM", into drive A:. The CD/floppy thing is nothing we haven't seen before, but how can I solve the other problem?

I figure that either 1) some files are missing from the CD, or 2) it looks for the files in the wrong place.

Help much appreciated.

Yes, I created a new (sorta) scheme for everybody to use. I felt that this board kind of lacked the original Acmlm's "feeling" so I recreated the good old "Daily Cycle". It should be as close to the original as possible (setting font size to 80 in your profile) without changing the whole board's PHP source.

Now, enjoy and let it bring back fond memories!

For the sake of posting something, I chose to post in this thread.

Also, nice comic. I laughed at the "plot hole".

Yeah.

As of me, I should probably start doing my homework and pay attention in class... and play fewer games in school.

So, what about you?

I had no holes. My wisdom teeth are fine.

Life is great.

I actually thought I had a hole this time, too. I guess not.

Also, I rather like dentists. It's nice to know that your teeth are healthy. Of course, people who are bad at brushing them might have another view here.

Edit: The best ad ever appeared at the bottom:

Lol.

Read title.

I have found this to be an extremely tough question. Most people would probably choose deaf right away because being blind makes you almost completely unable to move around safely. That is important, of course, but I don't think I would be able to live without music. In my opinion it is a lot easier to feel an emotion from a piece of music than from a picture. Then again, you wouldn't be able to read books. On the other hand, audio books exist. And you could get someone to read aloud...

Well, I dunno. I guess I would go with blindness.
