It's a little difficult to figure out what's wrong without actually seeing the event. Would it be possible for you to take a screenshot of the event or something so I can see it?
Also, have you edited the game outside of Lazy Shell? Maybe you used a Hex editor of some kind? What version of Lazy Shell are you using by the way? When does the error occur? Does Lazy Shell crash while you're editing an event? Or can you save it, close it, and then it refuses to open again?

I think it may be because I edited some sprites in the level itself, since the level editor only freezes when NPCs are enabled.

Na, I haven't. Been using 3.9.0 for it. It occurs after I edit the room and event. It doesn't when I do it and only after I close it and reopen it. I can edit anything except events and Levels after that.

I'll try a few different things in a week or 2. Got some major events coming up, so I'll let the motivation build a bit before I attempt it again. =p

The next release will have an improved pointer updating system. I found several bugs with the pointer updating functions, and as a result I changed/moved around/added a couple of lines and deleted some superfluous functions to finally fix a long-standing error which has caused so many users, including myself, unneeded stress.

You mean such as editing one thing can throw off all the pointers in the entire address set? xp

This will be a much, much needed and appreciated change. Can't wait. It might even fix the issue I'm having. You never know. xp

Hey, Anyone knows if changing the pass "PEARL" in the ship is possible? I want to put PERLA instead...

Ya, but it involves event script editing.

Events 3232 - 3237 control the 6 boxes. Do not edit them. To edit the letters themselves, you have to edit all of the following dialog numbers to match what you want. You should be able to see how this works when you first see them:

1696-1700 is the first box
1708-1712 is the second
1720-1724 is the third
1732-1736 is the fourth
1744-1748 is the fifth
1756-1760 is the sixth

The event that defines which of the messages comes up can be found at Event number 3225. Do not edit the event itself. It's a major part of this puzzle as a whole.

Note: The following addresses are from a clean rom. For reference, the first event (2A56) states "If Mem [address] =4, jump to [Address 2 lines under it. This address is similar]"

You can edit the following in Event 3218, if you choose to re-position where the correct letters are, to make that character's position register as correct: Address 2A56 controls the first box, 2A5E controls the second, 2A66 controls the third, 2A6E controls the fourth, 2A76 controls the 5th, and 2A7E controls the 6th. Change their values to the position the letter is in, with far left being 0, the one to the right of it being 1, the one right of that being 2, etc. The rest is done for you.

If you edit only these events and dialog pages, and nothing else, it should work.

There was no need to bump an over 2 year old thread.

There haven't been any new hacks that I know of since SMRPG: Armageddon by darkkefka. V.7 is being worked on, you can check it out the progress on his child forum on InsaneDifficulty: http://www.insanedifficulty.com/board/index.php?/forum/96-super-mario-rpg-armageddon/

If you haven't already taken a look, you can find a list of hacks here. Plenty of stuff to see. I recommend all of them!

How about we host a competition? We could host it here to get more people into it. I'm sure there are plenty of proficient enough people to make something, no matter how small, and it might even spark more interest in SMRPG hacking in general. (Might even make this board more alive, too!)

Would that the right kind of motivation?

Yes. Yes it would. If you have any details, send them to me please. ^^

Forgive me if this has been discussed, but why does Shyper appear as Smithy and why do Mokura and the Crystals appear as the invisible placeholders?

Yo.

They are all summoned by specific events. Since these events ignore sprites and generate items based on the event, none of what you mentioned really needs the sprites. Shyper gets Smithy because that's the fight it appears in. Mokura and the crystals aren't present in the beginning, and, thus, are summoned. Basically, they don't have proper sprites because they didn't really need them. (That, and it allows for all 4 crystals to be present in the battle instead of 3 before it glitches out).

Anyone have a mirror for v3.19.0? I've got work to do.

I'm thinking of doing something like this if there is interest. It'll be a motivation for me to... Well... Actually do it. =p

Here is an example of something I've done in the past:

Ah, thank you. So if I want to have them present in a battle from the start, I would have to change the script?

The battle event scripts, yes. The reason the game uses things like this is because it frees up enough resources to have things like the Culex battle. For example: If you were to edit the sprites and make the crystals standard enemies, then included them into the fight without the script, graphical glitches would begin to occur.

If you're just looking to make them standard enemies, however, this is a good place to start: http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/thread.php?id=3965

Base background color changes never save through. For example: Can't change Level X from it's original background color (blue) to anything (black). The change shows up in the editor, but it never makes it back to the .smc. Previewing the level in an emulator doesn't show any changes to that as well.

Version used: v3.19.0
