Allow me to rephrase: the background part of the boss can move, the sprite parts of the boss can move, the boss itself as a whole can move independantly from the scenery. So I repeat, why would a background layer based boss "not move"?

To cover the other angle, when you say "multijoined sprite", do you mean "multi-jointed", like the screen-tall armor at the start of Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance on the GBA? Because if you do, you'll make the task of whoever'll be the programmer of your so-called killer app very, very difficult, what with all the individually rotated parts and the math that entails, both in keeping the construction together and figuring out the affine matrices.

What is the most interasting glitch you have seen in a Video Game?
You know how the SNES has a separate sound processor so if the game crashes the sound can continue and vice versa? The NES does not. I was visiting some friends who had a NES with what could be best described as an axe wound. The table it was on was not to be jostled too much or the system would go funky. This, ofcourse, happened often. But once, I sat my fat ass down on that table with a little jump and... color zero in SMB3 turned gray, the action froze completely and the music kept running as if it were a SNES. I was rightly afraid to get back off from the table.

So, what happens if the sound processor in the SNES crashes?
Unless it's one of those crazy games that does the music processing on the main CPU and merely sends "play this note" commands, the sound hangs in some nondescript way and the game continues as if nothing happens. There may be... circumstances that could cause the game to crash, such as requiring a signal from the SPC and never getting it.
