If you could be a character from an anime, who would it be?
I think you meant, "if you could be like an anime character". If I were that character, I wouldn't really be me anymore.

Imagine if I said Ranma Saotome. If I were Ranma Saotome, I'd be, including the Fiancé Brigade, a piss-poor upbringing and the curse that makes Ranma an interesting answer to give in the first place. I wouldn't be the same guy I am today, I wouldn't know any of you guys because I wouldn't be such a computer whiz. This entire world would be shaken, while the world depicted in Ranma ½ would be no different, assuming I even get to retain this nagging feeling that I'm somehow not Ranma Saotome but Kawa.

If you had asked "if you could be like an anime character" and I said Ranma Saotome, that would mean I'd still be mostly myself, but better looking, good or better at funky-ass martial arts, cursed with the girl or any combination of the three. But I'd still just be Kawa, only with extra aspects. This world would be influenced somewhat, but not as much. I wouldn't be as frustrated at the lack of pussy for one thing, so that's less whining about that. And considering I wanted to be like Ranma, I have no right to whine about being cursed with turning into a girl. Ofcourse, world-changing repercussions would be somewhat larger if it were retro-continuous -- that is, saying you want to be like Ranma makes you always have been so. History would have to be adjusted and you'll probably find the non-personal situation hugely different. You probably wouldn't even be sitting where you were just a moment ago before I "became like Ranma". On the other hand, if the change were from that moment on, nothing would be retconned and I'd just log in and tell you guys and you'd be like no wai and I send pics or something.

Ofcourse, aside from the more specific effects, any anime character can be substituted.
