With no reply for a month now, I'd think your idea just wasn't interesting enough. I seriously wonder if your concept could work out though - especially the part about using the 65816 only for DMA like that. Why would you do something like this anyway, when you could (I think) just as easily use a flash cart or something similar? Is there anything I'm not aware of that would prevent it?

Eh, I think that's a fairly exhaustive list you got there. I was about to suggest editing the Koopa Kids HP and such but then I noticed "enemy attributes", so I'd dare say you covered all reasonable things there.

To me, it's mostly like Alkerion's, given that I have access to a Wii but nothing else. The major difference is that I very, very rarely had access to a game controller so I don't have much experience to the contrary to dampen.

I loaned a SNES and N64 many years back, that was kinda cool, but not enough to invalidate the above.

Another important difference is that nothing was stolen.

To offset the broken mess above, here's what I think of the hack so far. The tileset edits so far are great and most of the city makes good use of it, but the whole broken door problem really bites. There were also some places where I would get stuck in the water, but this is probably just because of unfinished maps. The Stargate looked even better when animated, and Chief got confused by the Dark World theme playing at the start. That is actually a good thing, because I like it when Chief is confused.

If there's one thing I don't like about it that's not caused by the WIP state, it's the relative lack of color -- almost all the cars are the same, for example. Perhaps this is just a technical limitation, but yeah...

I was actually referring to the "can't get back out" problem you mentioned in the OP. It's good to hear you're at least planning to break up the stylistic monotony, though.

For no good reason, just a few minutes ago, my notebook went and forgot it had an internal HD. Opera crashed, µTorrent followed, I thought it was just a fluke that would resolve itself in a moment so I issued a move on two pictures I had just downloaded, I switch to the still-working mIRC, close the lid to reach my glass of coke... and when I opened it back up the system was restarting. "Okay", I thought... and then it gave me the classic "no system disk or disk error" message. Restart, same. Restarted again, pressed F9 for the startup disk menu -- and hey, only choice was an empty DVD drive! Opened the BIOS settings screen, couldn't find a trace of HD.

So I figured I'd just turn the system off and let it rest for a bit, cool down and stuff. If it still didn't work I'd get the screwdrivers.

It worked, but I still don't know what caused it.
