I finally release my first completed hack. It's a "second quest" (like in zelda) like hack of Super Metroid. The map is all the same, but the items have been re-arranged to make the route different and harder.
Wall jump and bomb jump are modified to fit the game better. They are also neccesary to finish the game. So is mock ball.
I also tweaked the spring ball with a feature I call "Rocket Ball". When in a spring jump, press up+jump to fire off. It's a little tricky at first. So go get spring ball and find out...

The hack also features:

Sequence breaks
Door warps
Special beams

I also re-arranged the songs to give the game a new atmosphere. For example, I switched the Norfair songs because I think the upper norfair song sounds more "hot" than the lower norfair song and also to associate it with prime 1 a little bit.

I recommend to pick up energy tanks, 'cause you're gonna need them (I guess).

Some enemies are stronger and some aren't so it might be a little unbalanced about that, but I don't care the slightest.

Well, here it is if you want to try it. Use the Super Metroid (JU) [!] rom.

I tried to patch it with IPSWin, but that completely messed it up. Use Lunar IPS, that one worked, at least for me.

Oh, I forgot. The Power Bomb is part of a huge sequence break, so if you find it, please tell me where you found it. I don't want the sequence break to be too easy to find. Hint: The grapple beam has been replaced by power bombs. If you find them sooner, you broke a sequence.

Yes, I have done everything with SMILE, even the tweaks. It's no more than simple physics modifications.

I have taken som screens now, but I can't figure out how to put them up here.
I just registered in this forum =)

..so I uploaded them somewhere else and linked them.

And no, it's not a "complete hack", it's just completed, as in finished.
The hack is very basic in level designing, the levels is more or less untouched. It's just re-routed. Hopefully in an enjoying way.
See if you can find the sequence breaks.

Wow, this is amazing! I am stunned. This is probably the best megaman hack ever. Classic megaman has gone progressive! Everything is so well-made, and it's also free from that common problem: even the most ambitious and advanced hacks can still be boring to play. This isn't, it has that most advanced component of a video game - being entertaining.

Keep up the good work! I can hardly wait to play the finished version. Already now I can with confidence say that this hack will go to the game hacking history.

I have a question for infidelity and I'm not sure this is the right place to do that, but I'm not sure where else to turn. First of all I'd like to say that you have done an amazing work with this hack and I'm very impressed. I'm working on a Zelda hack myself and would like to mod the boomerang. I want it to do damage instead of stun, if there would be a way to just change this property to do damage like magic sword or bomb effect on impact. I also want it to pierce instead of bouncing and return on impact (except when bouncing on walls. Is there a way to do this simple in a hex editor? I have been trying hours of code tracing and ROM corruption with little result that has taken me nowhere in understanding the boomerang code.

Sorry for my broken swenglish ^^

Thank you very much!

I figured the piercing routine would be complicated. It's not primary though, it might even be OP, it's more a matter of the cosmetic effect. The important thing is the damage effect, I figured it would be fairly simple to just replace the stun routine with a bomb explosion. My idea was to find a way to simpy repoint it to the bomb explosion routine.

Now I got it, it took a while ^^ So I found what seems to be the code for the cosmetic effect of the bomb explosion. What I want is the bomb damage routine (and the smoke cloud if it's possible) Should I trace the bomb exploding and doing damage or just the explosion? I suspect that if I kill/damage an enemy that will also show up in the hex tracer and could be confusing.

So, yeah, breaking the taboo about requests. I actually want requests and ideas for applications such as editors and tools of various kinds. I'd prefer to make level editors for NES/SNES games, but all ideas will be considered.

Why would I do this? I want to learn how to program and need projects that will make me busy for tis purpose. It needs to be meaningful and stimulating to me so I will choose project based on this. The app will probably be written in C#.

Let the crunching begin!
