Good to see you're still in the Zelda II business, Ice Penguin! I don't like the sky in the intro screen. Do you think you could make a kind of dawn gradient instead of almost night gray? I like the new tiles on the overworld, but there are a little too "pixely" in my opinion. Keep working on the flying sword hack. It's cool, but apparently not perfect...
That's actually not the title screen I'm using. I just posted it to have "Zelda" on the page.

I'm quite impressed with just how extensively you've edited the game, but I have to ask - does the new sword beam appear to break traditional videogame logic? From what I can gather in the video, it strikes any enemy in the general direction its aimed, regardless of Y proximity.
Overall it looks fantastic, but I'd hate to see the challenge factor compromised by it...
It does seem like that, oops! Here is a better video of it. Basically, it shoots faster and you can extend it if you need.

I'm nearing the completion of my new Zelda II hack, and I wanted to get some pointers on difficulty. I really don't want to butcher this
hack with the extreme, but I also don't want to make it a breeze. Hmm.

If you know anything about my last two hacks, you'll understand my reason for posting this.

I never thought about having someone else play it. I would say I'm a Zelda II expert, and rarely die, so this is a great idea! It will give me a better view on the challenge.

To design interesting things there will always be a degree of complexity that is required....

There can only be so much complexity, though. It's an NES game, but most importantly, my skills are seriously undeveloped.

Wow, I like how you have to go to different parts of the level to beat it! (Instead of just going straight to the goal)

I have to be honest, though, the first level was a turn off. It seemed way too confusing.

A lot of time and effort has gone into this, and not just from me
either! JaSp, Trax, Dwedit, Jigglysaint, Ice Ranger, optomon, and others,
have contributed as well. Thanks guys!

-New Graphics
Everything has been changed in some way. There are lots of
custom GFX, but I've also left in old ones, too. So you will
see new and old stuff throughout.

-Magic
You don't need to Pause the Menu anymore to cast magic! Well,
you still have to push it to select which magic, but if you have
the Life spell out, just push select until you are healed! No
more hassle of: Pause, heal, pause, heal, pause, heal....etc.

-Dungeons
New Dungeon layouts! Mmm, delicious.

-New Beam
The reason I changed the Sword Beam is because the original one
just....sucked. Hehe. This time, having full health will feel
so rewarding!

-Enemy Count
In the pause menu is a new feature. If you look at the bottom
left of the menu, you will see two enemy Icons. The smaller one
represents Weak enemies, and the bigger one represents strong
enemies. Once you kill 10 of either one, you will get a prize!
Weak enemies usually drop weak potions or small Rupees and the
strong enemies drop strong potions or big rupees. Unfortunately
you can't tell the difference between rupees.

-Experience
I've completely re-done the experience system. It's still on
scale with the old one, it just seems less daunting. Maybe?

-Dialogue
All NPC's have more to say and they even talk faster now, too!
So if you are in town, say hello!

I'm really glad you all like my hack, it makes me happy! I have started a Zelda 1 hack, a while ago, but quickly realized that
I was only interested in Zelda II hacking. One day though, when my skills are immense, I plan to make something intense!

I based this hack off of the "Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link (U)" ROM, so I would recommend that one.

I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes, but use it to be safe, I guess.

If I were to make another hack, it would be Super Mario World.

I don't hack games, just for the sake of hacking them, I make them for my brother and sister. Zelda II for my brother and
Super Mario World for my sister. These two games gave us a lot of good memories, from when we were younger.

I haven't seen my brother for years, unfortunately, so he has yet to play my Zelda II hack.
