As for a North American convention...not Detroit. Anywhere but Detroit.

It should be a major city with an airport and decent public transportation, as not everyone here can drive and those that do may not want to rent a car.

This rule wasn't present in high school, but in middle school, you could only wear shorts in August, September, May, and June. Even if it was sweltering hot on October 1st or April 30th. Also, you could wear sandals but you had to wear socks with them.

Oh, and no backpacks. There was a bomb threat in 1999 and the school decided to ban them entirely. I got good at carrying books in my hands. This was even worse in middle school because we could only go to our lockers three times: before 1st hour, between 3rd and 4th hours, and after 6th hour. (High school allowed us to go to our lockers between each class, but not during lunch.) My 3rd and 4th hour classes were both at the far west end of the school during the first semester of eighth grade, and my locker was at the far east end, so I was late to 4th hour sometimes and, of course, three tardies equalled a detention.

1474. People that apparently dedicate their lives to insulting other people.

1475. The animated GIFs thread causing my computer to go haywire accessing the hard drive. (Either I need more RAM or I have some kind of malware, most likely.)

(Edit: Fixed numbering, there were two 1464's)

We had the tall, thin lockers (numbers 1-100) and the wider, deeper lockers that were in two rows (numbers 101-874 or some such). They were assigned alphabetically by class, and when my class (the class of 2005) entered the high school in 2001, people with names at the beginning of the alphabet got the tall, thin ones, and anyone after H or so got "normal" lockers way back by the science labs. I actually requested a new locker as the location of mine was really inconvenient. it was past all the science labs and near the north door of the building, and I took my science classes in another building 15 miles away. My other classes were all toward the front (south) end of the building or in the trailers (yes, trailers) outside. It was like that for most of my time at high school, because I took math, science, and computer classes primarily at the other school and the English/social studies classes were all in the front.

We've been kicking this idea around for a long time actually. I'd say at least 1 year. So we're actually being truthful about this idea.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I saw the idea brought up in 2002 or 2003.

1487. Sleeping on a really leaky air mattress that was "fixed" at least 4 times and still leaks like crazy. At least I should be able to get a real bed for my new apartment...

1488. Mysterious headaches with no apparent cause that won't go away.

I like the tabs better than several individual windows because my taskbar is often cluttered with windows already. Typically, I at least have Firefox, my Gaim buddy list, and a Gaim conversation window open, and if I'm working on stuff, I may have 4 or more OpenOffice.org and folder windows open as well.

I got pissed off a lot, especially at TEK, where I'd get all worked up over stupid stuff like OSes and music (the funny thing is, I loved rap back in the day and defended it to the last, and now I can't stand most rap). At other places, any anger I have is generally directed toward lamers and assholes only. Like one guy who kept posting gay porn and pro-Hitler stuff after it was edited out of his posts and profile a jillion times. I wanted to permaban him, but the other admins at the board where this happened kept unbanning him, and he'd do it again.

I was a n00b at Acmlm's though, I asked dumb things like "When will Acmlm update the site?"

Mine's Anthony, but I don't mind being called Kernal. I prefer Kernal in an online context and Anthony in real life, but a meeting of board members is somewhat of a grey area and I would probably answer to either name.

"Moronicity" is such an awesome word.

Yeah, a lot of my old posts are gone forever, thank goodness, but TUNMB is still around, amazingly enough. I mean, they get what, one post a month now?

I've had an AIM name for years, but never sent or received a single message with it.

Then why did you get it?

I came here (well, to the first incarnation) because of romhacking, but I haven't done any significant amount of romhacking in a while. Earlier this year, I did finish a SMB1 hack that I started in 2003, but I have nowhere to put it...plus it's levels-only, so it's probably not up to today's standards of changing all the graphics and modifying the ASM.

I tend to use Times New Roman for everything that will be printed. Maybe because in both high school and university, using a different font would result in points being deducted. (They especially hate fixed-width fonts, as they tend to make a short essay seem longer.)

I'm no good with designing anything though. I guess I'm not a visual person.

Times New Roman looks fine in print to me, but it is pretty bad on the screen if there is no anti-aliasing. I usually use Verdana for online stuff, but it has to be at least 10-point. I hate the ubiquitous 8-point Verdana (or anything 8-point) as it is overused and my vision isn't very good. I struggle to read lots of text in 8-point.

I do like Georgia and Palatino Linotype, I just have the mentality of "use a non-default font = receive a lower grade" hammered into my mind after years of overly strict English teachers. I don't see what should be wrong with using a different font for essays and such as long as it isn't too weird (cursive, wingdings, etc.), although I understand banning fixed-width fonts if the essay needs to be a certain amount of pages (as opposed to words), because less words fit on a page with most fixed-width fonts so the same-length essay will take more pages.

I don't have any consoles in my room, as I don't play the new ones (any new games I play are for the PC) and I emulate the old ones. I have an Atari 2600 in my apartment just for kicks.

That was a rural school I was referring to. Well, not a one-room schoolhouse or anything, but it was located in Redneck Central.

I tend to prefer proportional fonts over monospace in most cases, as the latter tend to be ugly. Monospace does have its uses, and I usually use it for programming, but some people seem to have such an aversion to seing any code in a proportional font that they even switch fonts in the middle of a sentence like "The printf function is used to display things on the screen in C." Sheesh. The word "printf" won't suddenly become unintelligible if written in proportional text along with the rest of the sentence.

The most important thing for me, font-wise, is that I, l, and 1 are all distinct. Arial is no good because I and l look identical, for instance.

Yeah, I've had a lot of usernames including:

The_Millionaire - My first ever username, derived from a nickname I had developed at school. I used to be obsessed with the TV show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and would ask similar questions before class and such in the form of "Who wants to win a quarter?" etc. Then I bought a fake million-dollar bill from someone for like 50 cents and some pens.

comm128 - Commodore 128, a computer I had. This was something I came up with in like two minutes when I registered at Acmlm's, as I didn't want to use The_Millionaire because it sounded dumb and people weren't calling me that at school anymore anyway.

eyeball, Eyeball, frogs eat bugs, rubberchicken - Used at various random boards outside the romhacking and videogaming communities, because the name comm128 sucked. I kept comm128 at TUNMB and Acmlm's derivatives because that's the name I was known as at Acmlm's and TUNMB. Mostly chosen for their weird sounds.

Banedon - A character in the gamebook RPG series, Lone Wolf. I was obsessed with Lone Wolf in late 2003 and hated the username comm128, so one day I just switched names at Acmlm's and TEK.

Erdling, Erdling9K, Erdling 9000 - From an obscure fantasy-type post-apocalyptic book series. The Erdlings were one of the two races of people on the planet (the other ones being the Kindar). This was a temporary name used only at TEK and a few other places, but I switched back to Banedon before long.

Eyeball Eaters - Similar to the above "eyeball" group, but I used that at the very end of the 3rd incarnation and when I started posting here, as I didn't want to reveal myself yet.

Kernal - Part of the operating system used on the Commodore 8-bit series of computers, including the PETs, Vic-20, 64, and 128. This is now my username at most places (but not AIM).

Some other ones I don't remember, including variations on my first and last names used for "serious" sites like the bank and a few temporary names and variations (Banedon 2.0, etc.), plus several names I used in late 2005 and all of 2006 when I was, er, hiding.

Well, in that case, what's wrong with just using bold or something, or a different colour if the text appears online?

Wiina sounds like a character in H. G. Wells's The Time Machine. (the book and original movie, not the crappy 2002 movie). I think it's spelled Weena though.
