Yeah...there's something missing in new computers, even though new computers are awesome (can't live without the Internet, printers that don't suck, multitasking, GUIs, or decent graphics). Still, it was nice when you could just enter code into the computer and have it run immediately. Computer magazines would even have programs you could type in.

I actually thought Apple computers were a special type of computer used only in schools. We had a computer long before anyone else we knew and my dad was into Commodores and IBM compatibles only, and every school I went to used nothing but Apples. I thought it was like the apple logos you see on some school district signs and such, or like giving apples to teachers (who actually does that anymore?), so I figured the name was appropriate.

OK, now I'm afraid to set foot inside a restaurant.

I accidentally cut myself while slicing bread twice within about three days. Bleeding, but very little pain...I seem to have a fairly high threshold for pain actually.

Ooh, Friday the 13th.

Usually, Friday the 13th itself isn't evil for me, but there's another evil day in the same month. This time around, it was the 3rd. Or is it April 3rd that's evil? I got a concussion on 2002-04-03...

Yeah, I remember making a note of 2006-06-06, but nothing bad happened that day as I recall. They're just numbers, but it's fun to watch them and see what's "supposed" to be bad luck or otherwise mathematically significant (remember 1337 + 666 = 2003?). Of course, there is no significance to them as far as the universe is concerned because the numbering of years, months, and days was just devised by humans as a way to track the time, and our calendar is not the only one in existence and it has changed over time.

How old was he?

When I was in third grade, there was a girl in the class who was 12 years old. It was a mixed 3rd/4th grade class (mixing grades in one class was actually fairly common at the elementary school I attended near Niagara Falls, New York), but still...twelve??? I wonder if she just repeated a lot of grades or if there was a more interesting story behind her placement.

Yeah, I never got really badly injured either. When I was a kid I tripped on a toolbox and had to get stitches at a hospital, but I don't remember that except for my parents telling me all the time. I also banged my other knee on my bed really hard when I was about four years old. More recently, I fell off a swing in 2002 and hit my head and had a concussion, but that's about it for major injuries that I can remember.

Yeah, imagine if that worked in real life. Cut down the bushes in the front yard and find all kinds of money, hearts that magically heal any cuts you may have, and so on. People would no longer procrastinate in mowing the lawn. (I love apartment living, no lawn to mow or driveway to shovel...)

I remember Surverus's name, and that he was a mod of that IRC itself forum, but that's about it. He wasn't on IRC much when I started going on there in 2003 (at least not at the times I was typically on, which was 18:00-22:00 GMT-5).

It's not really necessary now that we have direct links to posts that only require the post ID (not the thread ID and page number like before). The ppp parameter was originally devised so that when someone links to a particular page in a thread, the same page would show no matter what the other person's PPP setting was. Before, it was a problem because what's page 14 for me might be page 35 for someone with the default setting, so if I linked someone to my page 14, they would see posts 260-279 instead of 650-699. (If my math is right.) Now, the post links are independent of page number and will load the proper page automatically depending on your PPP setting.

The USA and Europe didn't get the original Japanese version of SMB2 because:
a) it was deemed to hard for American players, and
b) it was too similar to the original SMB

So, the rest of the world got a version of Doki Doki Panic instead, which was then released as Super Mario Bros. USA in Japan around 1992.

And the USA didn't see SMB2J until Super Mario All-Stars was released for Super Nintendo, in 1993.

Which sucks. SMB2J and DDP are much better games than "Hacked Version Of DDP With Mario Graphics"...I would have killed to have been able to play SMB2J when we only had a NES (which was until 1999).

A PC game series, Leisure Suit Larry (no, I haven't played it), didn't have a 4. The series just skipped rather mysteriously from 3 to 5.

I definitely agree with #1311. Supposedly, H2s and H3s can't even go off-road, so the only point of them is to look all manly and tough and use a ridiculous amount of gas. The Detroit area is like the Hummer Capital of the World.

1317. Waking up in the morning and stil being tired as hell.

I haven't been on IRC in forever...I got bored of it when the channel suddenly became almost completely inactive in mid-2003.

1319. Spending too much money on one's car, in general. That's one advantage of my bike. No gas, and replacement parts cost very little (only $2 for brakes, $12 for a new tire and inner tube, etc.)

Man. When I first registered, Saver0k was a regular poster.

He was gone when I came around, but his name was mentioned in the Modern Art description for how long? I think it was even there on the second incarnation!

Hmm, any other oldbie names etc. that lurked around for a long time after the members themselves basically left? I know Emuz's avatar was in the banner forever...
