It's the door to the dungeons, where the banned members go and live in piles of human waste and eat diseased rats raw.

Yep, the p means "per" and the slash is also short for "per". b is bits and B is bytes, and there are eight bits in a byte, so a kBps number would be 1/8th the number of kbps because, logically, if you can send x number of bits per second, you can send 1/8 that number of bytes.

My problem with dentists' offices is the intense light right over my eyeballs. Even when I close my eyes everything looks all bright red which bugs the hell out of me.

That is technically OK in the rules, as adding < s > tags doesn't involve using backspace or delete, just mouse clicks or arrow keys and hope like hell you're not in overtype modde by mistake.

I live in the Detroit area, Michigan, USA. A lot of you probably know the reputation this place has. There isn't exactly a murder every five minutes unless you're in the ghetto (defined as practically the entire city of Detroit), but it still has plenty of problems.
- No economy. The auto industry is leaving in droves and no other industry is picking up the slack, except maybe the McMansion constructing industry as people move farther and farther away from Detroit.
- Horrendous public transportation. I prefer not to drive and worry about the added expense of a car. That's really tough around here because buses only come once an hour and not in the evenings or on Sundays, and the routes are usually about three miles apart and very few of them go past around 15 Mile Road (where half the people live these days).
- Lots of missing, inconsistent, dead-ending, and curb-interrupted sidewalks, making biking a challenge.
- Extreme weather. I don't mind seasons, but I could do without 100-degree heat in the summer and -20 wind chills in the winter. At least there are no hurricanes or earthquakes though.
- Racism everywhere. Almost 100% of White parents in suburbs with a significant Black population will send their children to private schools so they they will only have to go to school with other White people. Southfield, for instance, is about 35% white and 55% black, but the schools are close to 0% white from what I can tell.
- No urban area, really. The downtown is this pathetically tiny place surrounded by a huge ghetto of your worst nightmares. There are tall buildings in some of the suburbs, but they're surrounded by obscenely huge parking lots, large forests, and 8-12 lane highways, and they're almost all commercial and not residential. Not the urban life I've dreamed of.
- Big, masculine vehicles. Less than half of the vehicles are cars, most of them are big trucks, SUVs, and Hummers.
- Intolerance for anyone who is not pursuing the white-bread Midwestern suburban lifestyle.
- The radio stations around here suck unless you like ghetto crunk or the same 5 Motown songs played all day.

There are only a few good aspects:
- It is about 4.5 million people in the metro area, so there are a lot of businesses and places to go. I hate small towns because there's nothing around and all the restaurants are country bars full of rednecks.
- It's kinda cool having house numbers way up in the five-digit range. A typical address in the Detroit area might be 24725, whereas most cities have numbers like 17.
- It may suck, but it's infinity times better than the town I grew up in. Lexington was pathetically tiny, and almost entirely rednecks and a few summer cottage people. The nearest grocery store or decent restaurant or fast food place (except McDonald's) was 20 miles away in Port Huron. It was 100% White Christian Republicans who hate everyone. I still don't understand what my parents SEE in that place.

Go live in Kansas or somewhere in the middle of Tornado Alley for a few years and say that again. Michigan's weather was anything but "extreme" and I lived there for a good 5 full years. I don't even consider Kansas's weather as all that extreme either, but I view Michigan's weather as incredibly mild.]

I was more referring to temperature.

Well, I did live right along Lake Horun for a while, which tended to be colder, and -20 was referring to wind chills.

I was pretty much asleep from 23:30 to 08:00, except when I was woken up by someone who just HAD to hear "Fuck It" by Eamon at peak volume at 05:00 in the morning.

Of course, the insomnia will probably start again in a few days/weeks...

I was 15 befre I learned how to ype properly, before that I was very fast at typing with only two fingers. Now I usually use all fingers but for certain things (like "Star Wars" or whatever that only uses one hand) I move my hands from their peoper positions. I still need to look at the keys thoguh.

Now Anya, you have to make 700 posts in a day, and everyone else has to make 100-400, mostly in the hidden forum...

Wait a minute, you mean there is no hidden forum?

OK, we'll wait for the syndromes.

Actually, given the unpredictability of posting sprees...

Maybe I should just go around saying "ONO" a lot then?

5. ||board/3rd incarnation-style drama. It's why I went into hiding for a year and a half.

6. Apostrophes being used for plurals.

7. 12-hour time. 24-hour makes so much more sense! Why can't people use it?

8. Insomnia.

13. Gender-based hair length norms. Why should girls have long hair and guys have short hair? Besides, short-haired girls are hot...

14. Not knowing if this was supposed to have been numbered sequentially.

Here's a board-related question: Would I be able to get my username changed to Kernal? I don't like Eyeball Eaters, but I wasn't intending to stick around when I registered.

Yeah, I tend to be online most of the time I'm not at school or doing something else like homework or cleaning the bathroom. I'm such an Internet addict.

20. Boards that hate people who post a lot. I went to one place where the admin set up a 2-minute flood control to get rid of me. The ironic thing was that board had jillions of postcount++ type threads like "Word Association".

Forum 0 is oddly different in that no "New thread" button appears. In the other forums, such a button is there (although it gives an error if you try it).

I second #25.

26. People who buy huge pickups/SUVs/Hummers and don't even use them to tow anything or go offroad, they just get them to show their damn masculinity.

I kinda liked the daily post graphs for each user at the original board. Of course those were script-generated...
