Uh, Linux is free.

Well, it's free if you have a high-speed connection and can use that to download it. You will also find Linux disks bundled with Linux books or magazines a lot.

Oddly enough, I never liked the gummy stuff very much.

I remember one year my dad left some Christmas stuff up until March. And there's this one Christmas poster thingy that was put up in, I believe, 2002 and has never been taken down.

556. Keyboards which have a long \ key above Enter, as with that kind of keyboard I tend to accidentally hit \ and Enter at the same time (being more used to keyboards with the backwards-L Enter), adding backslashes to the end of IMs, passwords, etc.

Will there ever be restrictions of custom titles to staff members and people with X posts and Y days, like on the old board?

EDIT: I suggest you don't restrict custom titles until ranks are implemented.

Are there any videogames that it seems everyone else knew about except you?

We were a Nintendo and computer family when I was growing up. I was vaguely aware of this company called "Sega" but had never played any of their games or systems. I didn't know who or what Sonic the Hedgehog was until I started going online in 2001. Similarly, I had never even heard of Final Fantasy until I went to Acmlm's and realized it was apparently the only videogame series anyone ever talked about.

Another one for me was Metroid. I had heard the name but that was it, I had no idea it was so popular.

What drives me nuts is when people use the backquote and apostrophe as single quotes, as in `whatever' or, even worse, doubled up to form double quotes ``whatever''.

Suposedly that actually looks fine on some text-only Unix displays because the backquote looks like an opening single quote, but with modern GUIs and proportional fonts, it just looks crappy.

Acmlm, those codes are only in Windows character sets, so they wouldn't display on Linux or Mac OS.

ASCII is just characters 0 through 127. There is no such thing as "ASCII 145" and the like. (-:
ASCII extended

Even then, characters 128-159 are control codes in the ISO 8859 character sets and Unicode. Micro$$$$$$$$$oft just decided to ignore the standards and add their own (printable) characters there, which other OSes do NOT recognize (although they are mapped to higher positions in Unicode).

570. That Linux programs, even GUI-based ones, almost always require command-line arguments.

Hmmm...I was kinda surprised to see all the Mario posters in LTTP. Then I found out that Mario and Zelda were both designed by the same guy.

I do that all the time...I get stuff for birthdays and Christmas and immediately forget about them, then I find them several months/years later in the back of the closet "I don't remember this..."

Fuckwin? Sounds like a Linux command that deletes Windows.

Is this a home office?

574. Programs that install and force you to restart your computer, giving you no choice to "restart later".

575. Windows Update, which does have the option but then reminds you to restart every few minutes. Sheesh, the updates can't be THAT vital. I can wait until my next computing session, thank you very much.

Well, it does for Western European languages. Slavic, Cyrillic, Greek, etc. use additional code pages that are even more out of step with their ISO counterparts.

Yeah, but it still tends to screw up characters that are in the 128-159 range so that when I load my documents on a Linux machine, all the smart quotes vanish.
