Congratulations on 500 posts.
This board is definitely better than the 2nd and 3rd incarnations. I agree that having a lot of ban-happy admins can ruin the posting experience as people are always living in fear of getting banned. Especially the ones who apparently hate posting and ban people for being postwhores/"spammers"... |

That's why I got a spill-proof rubber keyboard, I tend to ruin conventional keyboard because Im on the computer 24/7 and, by extension, eat and drink at the computer. Of course, it's crap to type on...I should try a regular keyoard with a plastic cover. |

For my board I just added one to the version number each time and didn't bother with decimals, it took 3 days to get to "Version 3" as I was trying to fix security holes. |

I'm a computer science major because I always wanted to be a computer programmer. I think the only thing you do with a philosophy major is become a university teacher and torture future CS majors by giving them F's in the required philosophy classes.
I figure required writing and literature classes are normal (and I don't struggle with them at all, I just think they're boring), but is it normal to have 2 semesters of mandatory philosophy for a CS degree, or is my school just crazy? |

I've started avoiding clicking links on forums entirely unless they're clearly labeled and the post they're in apears intelligent, after clicking on one too many "OMG SHOCK VALUE" pictures of naked 800-pound girls etc. |

I say Aiya as "eye-uh" as well. I would describe my pronunciation of Anya as "on-ya", but I recently discovered that I speak practically the only dialect of English that pronounces "short o" like "ah", so I guess it'd be "ahn-ya". |

Actually, he probably wouldn't. The basic principle of banking (i.e., charging interest on loand and paying it to bank account holders) is forbidden by Islam. |

I think what should have been done was picking totally new staff when the 2nd board went up, in particular (a) not having 13 admins, and (b) not giving positions to recent assholes/power abusers/banned people just because they were once good staff (or even regular) members. |

I was good at chemisyry, but I found out I didn't need it I couldn't get into Physics 1 because I didn't have physics and...err...in high eschool, and the introductory physics class wasn't available. So my advisor, being an idiot, told me to take chemistry, which as it turns out isn't necessary for my major at all. |

Commodore Basic - Too slow to do anything useful, but still fun to play around in sometimes. My C64 broke in 2005 though, so I have to fire up the emulator.
Qbasic - Sheer misery. I hate the AUTO-FORMAT FEATURE THAT CAN'T BE TURNED OFF THAT PUTS YOUR CODE IN ALL UPPERCASE. I tried this once and didn't like it, deciding that I would do my DOS/Windows programming in C instead. C - Probably my favourite language. Fast, not too complex, and none of that funky OOP garbage. Plus it runs on just about any computer imaginable. C++ - Like C, only weirder. I don't mind C++ but I prefer C. I don't like OOP in most cases although it does have its uses. Java - The prime advantage of this is that one Java program can be run on Windows, Linux, Mac OSX, etc. without recompiling for each OS. The disadvantage is the language itself: ugh. EVERYTHING must be in a class, even main, and each class needs its own file. I prefer dealing with one larger file than 30 small ones for programs that aren't that big. GUI programming is particularly grotesgue. And the verbiage! I love the short, simple names in C: printf, char, fopen, etc. I hate typing out all 31 characters of StringIndexOutOfBoundsException. PHP - Sheer awesomeness except for all its security problems. MYSQL - Syntax is too wordy and COBOL-esque for my tastes, being used to all the symbols in C, but what would we do without it? A very powerful database management tool. HTML - Nice 1990's-style simplicity. I hate these attempts to replace most of HTML with CSS. XHTML - What's all the fuss about? It's just like HTML only you need a / after your br tags. Haskell - Kinda weird, but I'm actually understanding recursion now, not that I like it much. Pascal - Ugh. Blehh. Vomit. "BEGIN" and "END"? Where are my curly brackets? |

The only time my school is closed is when everything else in the whole county is closed. Probably because so many people live on campus. The "dorms" are pretty big, not just like a closet for 4 people but with a living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and each apt. has its own bathroom. Of course, they're grossly overpriced, noisy, trashy, and prone to petty crime such as laptop theft (especially since half the people never even CLOSE their doors, much less lock them). And they have moronic policies where they move everyone around every couple of semesters. And their maintenance policy shouldn't even be legal. If you ask for maintenance, and sometimes even if you don't and they have to do some random check or other, they just unlock your door and walk right into your apartment even if you're naked having sex on the couch or something. You can't ask for a specific time or even get any warning about it.
I'm so glad I'm out of that hellhole. |

I used to post really slowly when I first registered...then one day I was really depressed and close to suicide and, with nothing else to live for, I just spreed like 20 posts in an hour. I think Acmlm's stopped me from killing myself in 2002. |

I was never able to wrap my brain around ASM. There's just such a fundamental difference between it and higher-level languages, you have to think in bytes and loads and stores, and trying to do something as simple as multiply by a non-power of 2 or work with floating-point is a nightmare. |

Well, even if the teacher doesn't accept Wikipedia itself as a source, most pages on Wikipedia have links to other pages and articles that could be acceptable sources. |
