caitsith2's page has his own utility that is supposed to be better than the one listed in your link:

http://www.caitsith2.com/ereader/devtools.htm

"NVPK Tool - by CaitSith2 (obsoletes FireFly's VPK Tool (Lite))"

well, i managed to find the secret exit in the second level . it was pretty cool, but kind of annoying because of the distance. turbo is a REALLY nice feature.

nice design so far, though.

:edit: the switch palace definitely tripped me up for a second before i realized what the info box was referring to.

i think i found a tile problem:

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/72/supermarioworlduterritoxy2.png

that's in "team chuck rampage" in world 2.

i think my favorite level overall was the monty mole one. that was so much fun.

:edit:

i just finished castle 2, and it was excellent.

just for the record, there is an sma4 editing tool. i'm not sure if it's entirely complete(or how much it can actully do), but it looks decent. i had to harass a bunch of people for it, but eventually i tracked it down awhile back. i'll post it in a little bit along with all the other notes and saved webpages that people passed on to me/referred me to.

this is one good reason why i make sure to have massive amounts of hard drive space and try to make it a priority to archive most anything that is of a small enough size and i find interesting. the program would've pretty much been lost along with a bunch of notes.

edit
-----

ok, here's everything:

http://bond697.110mb.com/SMA4

btw, 110mb doesn't allow for .rar files to be uploaded so i knocked off the file extension. go ahead and rename the file and add a ".rar" at the end to make it complete.

i just tried downloading the file, as i did to test it last night also, and it worked quite well. i grabbed it from the http link i posted as well as over ftp from ftp14.110mb.com and they both work fine. odd that you had trouble?

anyway, board uploader links:

it's odd, because if you take a look at the level editor and "open" a level in it, some circle-things will show up in the level display box. it looks like that part was started but left unfinished.

i don't recall seeing this posted here, but here's caitsith2's site:

in case someone doesn't have it. it might be useful.

Finally, some new development on SMA4.

There's a save floating around at TAS-Video with 32 e-Levels (for 1.1, missing the rare N-Bash level or something).

one of the downloads i posted a page or 2 back has that and some of the saves that have all the us and japan e-reader levels, along with the cards themselves in .raw format and some random stuff like a bunch of different switch palace colors and powerups.

it's odd, though, because caitsith2 lists a lot of cards as unreleased, but i physically own many of the cards in those directories. go figure.

So are e-reader levels in a similar format to the SMB3 levels? I saw the videos of an edited/new level, so I'm guessing is similar. Does any documentation exist on e-level format?

As for the editor, I'd be willing to try to throw something together in a couple months, right now I'm far too rusty with programming in general and have no knowledge of how to make an editor.

I agree about removing Mario Bros, from the very start I thought it was a waste of space. Though it might have some nice things to implement in the engine?

e-reader level format documentation exists here:

http://caitsith2.com/ereader/index.htm

more specifically, here:

http://caitsith2.com/ereader/ereader%20card%20info.txt

but look around because there's a lot of info there.

Managed to finally apply the translated names over to the actual e-reader level card data. These are located on http://caitsith2.com/ereader/sma4.htm

It was the lack of a working compressor that had proven to be the initial road block from doing that.

just so you know, some of those cards marked as unreleased were definitely released. i own at least half of them. unless you mean something else by unreleased.

so, nintendo released them, but unofficially? i'm in connecticut and bought the 3 packs of cards i got in massachusetts while i was in college.

i'm just saying, a lot of those cards in the unreleased directory were not unreleased in the us/na.

Can you show me pictures of those cards then, as proof of them having been released?

just got in from work. will start taking pics with my phone.

e:

ok, took pics of all of them:

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii181/bond697/IMG_0507.jpg

and a list pulled from somewhere else i posed about them:

the first 10 level cards, plus the (star)1-1 card.

also:
orange switch
blue-green switch

demo cards: 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 3-4, 3-8, 4-2, 5-5, 6-7, 7-2

power ups:
super leaf
frog suit
tanooki suit
hammer suit
starman
p-wing
cape
3 fire flowers
3 super leaves
5 starmen
4 item set
3 suit set
8 item set
10-up mushroom
5-up mushroom

also, i notice now that level card 1(wild ride in the sky) and power up card 3(super leaf) are glossy on the back, does that mean those are the ones that came with the game?

if you need any better/individual card pics, let me know.

look through his "unreleased powerup cards". right off the bat at the top is the 10-up mushroom i have a picture of. there are quite a few of mine in his rar file.

did you even look? it's obvious.

words...

you didn't pay attention either. i wasn't saying i had anything special. i'm showing him they aren't unreleased.

look in his rar file of "unreleased" cards. a bunch of mine are in there. that's all i'm showing him. they exist in the us. simple reading comprehension.

btw, all that link shows is japanese cards. he and i are talking about north america/us.

if you're having trouble running hacking apps in vista, use the compatibility mode settings in the app's properties. if you change the compatibility to winxp, most things should run fine. i find that it works quite well.

if you're going to run programs made for dos, try dosbox(megabuild 5 is pretty nice).

if you're not going to come back to it, why not make the code public and release an ips?

this thread isn't real recent, but why not just use something like mediacoder(the stable build, not the nightly beta) to do this? it's a really nice tool.
