I lose.

Yes, that really does cost me $24 a month plus all applicable taxes (which raises it to $29-ish).

This is why we need to supply our own internet and stop leeching it off an underwater cable.

Oh god. Anyone remember my old layouts? Yeah.

Part of the reason why I never posted back then.

I'm pretty sure I asked at least one retarded question in SMW hacking, too.

School:
-I really need to finish this English project on A Walk to Remember for Friday. The writing part is done, but there's still the part that requires MASSIVE ART SKILLZ (making a professional-looking book cover and movie poster), effectively forcing me to learn some advanced Photoshop techniques in under 72 hours. And it's not like I can politely ask Tarale to help me with this... oh, wait.

Other:
-Finish the REEMICKS I've had on the back burner since December.

-De-ice (and then probably re-ice ) my unnamed SMW hax I've been working on for a year now. I only has 10 levels done

-Learn some goddamn ASM.

-Find some useful data in Actraiser 2.

-Learn how to CG my sketches and draw entwined characters (the latter would pwn for my book project)

So I was making a collage for this huge English project I keep talking about. It was made in Photoshop, 8-bit RGB, 3300x2550 pixels (8.5 x11"), and since it also had 37 layers, the filesize was a bit... large. (56.8MB to be exact.) The fact I was running Azureus and Firefox at the same time didn't help much. The thing is, when I went to save it as a .jpg level 5, Photoshop froze at the "Generating Fullscreen Composite" stage. The bar did reach the end and the window disappeared, but nothing happened. Photoshop wouldn't even respond to new commands.

I started to panic. I checked My Documents to see if the file had saved after all. It wasn't there at all. I stared horrified at my monitor, dumbfounded. To say I was livid was an understatement. Desperate, I tried the Task Manager. Photoshop was eating 168MB of my 256MB RAM. Firefox was at around 65MB, and Azureus at 12MB. I tried killing some processes to free up some memory, but to no avail. Photoshop still stood completely frozen. Resignated to my inevitably having to do everything all over again, I clicked "End Task" on the Photoshop process. Three hours of work and Google image search down the toilet. I was fucking pissed.

I restarted Photoshop, this time making sure to save as much memory as possible by making it grayscale and flattening it every time I pasted something. I had also set process priority to Realtime. A fatal mistake. Nothing would stop me from finishing now, I thought.

How very wrong I was.

After I was about half-done, I decided to flatten everything I had up until now. Guess what? When I right-clicked on the layer, Photoshop froze again! This time, my computer was as good as crashed, since having set Photoshop to realtime priority, I could not invoke the powers of the almighty Task Manager. Enraged, I cut the power on my PC and restarted. "NOW IS WHEN I FINISH THIS!!", I yelled. The computer restarted fine, but suddenly, BSOD! It was one of those I get whenever zonealarm is a bitch and doesn't load at startup. I restarted once more. Another one. My patience was wearing thin by now. After the third restart, BOOM. Yet another BSOD reared its ugly blue head. Three BSOD's in a row. I fucking wanted to strangle someone.

So there I was, at 11:30 PM, redoing everything in grayscale 8-bit, flattening the image every once in a while, and saving every two seconds. And when I wanted to post this thread last night, I had a really long post just like this one written down. When I clicked Submit, my connection timed out. It was a DNS down, right in the nick of time.

The moral of the story? Save. Save often. And buy something better than 256MB RAM.

That being said, what are some of your experiences in getting completely owned?

If image size didn't matter, I would've just zoomed out and cut-psated into Paint.
It did.

My nazi English teacher demands it be 8.5 x 11 inches. She did allow us to leave it black and white, though.

It was a lot of pixels to fill.

Now that I think about it, you're right. I could have just halved the canvas, work with that, and resize everything when I was done.

Why didn't I think of that sooner?!

Ease up on the bevel and emboss, yo. It's just too much.

And make the "EDIT Magazine" something other than OCRB. Usually titles are in a different font than the text.

Otherwise, it looks nice.

Step 1: search Wikipedia.
Step 2: Copy to your liking.
Step 3: Paste in MSWord, 'keep text only'.
Step 4: Surgically remove and edit content to your liking.
Step 5: Autosummarize if necessary.
Step 6: Profit.

Never failed me once

My school is fail.

The only APs available to us are AP English, AP Algebra and AP Spanish. They're free though, if you apply to all of them like I have. If I ace them all (and I will), I'll end up taking Composition, Precalc and Spanish Literature (basically a year of Don Quixote). If I pass, I get to skip an entire year of this in college. Fun stuff

Scores:
AP English- pending*
AP Spanish- pending*
AP Algebra- pending*

*projected: 4-5, 4, 5 respectively.

Ever since I connected my camera (which had very little battery life left) to my computer, I've been getting "Attempt to open invalid address" whenever I try to open .png or .jpg files. Strange thing is, this happens only to those types of files; everything else opens fine, and even then, .pngs and .jpgs open correctly in Paint and other image editors. This has happened before with one specific .exe: Paint Shop Pro 3.11.

Looking through some topics about this on the internet has led me to believe that this is either spontaneous partial corruption of RAM, or something happened to the Windows png/jpg libraries.

I really would like to know just what the hell is going on, before I go running to the local OfficeMax and spend $75 on a new stick of RAM

As part of that huge English project I had to do, we were required to come up with an alternate or extended ending for the novel. If you haven't read A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks yet, go do so now. This fanfic will make little sense to you if you don't.

This is my second and only finished piece of fanfiction. The first was Sigil Daemonicus, a Silent Hill fanfic/spinoff written in Spanish for a contest. I won fourth place. I might translate and finish it, depends on how lazy I am.

So, without further ado, enjoy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I walked into the hospital room, Jamie moved her head slightly and greeted me with a faint “Hello”. For the first time in her life, I realized, she was very afraid. She had been taken to the intensive care ward about a week ago. That was when it
all began. Jamie was lying down on our bed, reading her mother’s Bible; desperately trying to seek some answers, I thought. All of a sudden, however, her face turned very pale, and she looked like she was having seizures.

“Landon... Help... me... I’m not... feeling well...” –Jamie said, weakly.

As soon as she said that, she collapsed in my arms, a tear of pain rolling down her right cheek. I rushed her to the nearest hospital, hoping that it wasn’t too late. I stood by her side for four days straight, worrying. I thought to myself, “Is this it? Is Jamie going to die?”

I looked up to the sky.

“God, I know I haven’t asked you for help or anything, but I need to get this off my chest. I know the day will come when I wake up and Jamie will no longer be at my side, and I want to know if the day has come. I want to make sure she spends her last days at peace.”

“Landon... I’m okay. At least, for now...” – Jamie said, the color returning to her face.

I let out a sigh of relief. Jamie had only recently regained consciousness; she had been out cold for three days straight, and I was beginning to think she’d never wake up. She’d live to die another day, I thought to myself. The question was, when?

“Jamie?”

“Yes, Landon?”

“Aren’t you worried? I mean, that one day you’ll fall asleep, and you’ll never wake up?”, I asked her.

“No... Not at all.”, she said calmly.
“Because, when I fell asleep, I dreamt of a very bright light, brighter than anything I’ve ever seen. Its warm embrace compelled me to approach it. It was then that I realized... I’m going to die.”

“No, don’t say that! You’re going to be fine, Jamie, I promise...”-I said, my voice shaking up a little.

“Landon, it’s okay... After all, I’m going to die, sooner or later... It’s no use mourning me before that day comes along... We should focus more on making sure these last days we spend together... are as happy as possible.”

Jamie smiled widely as she said that. Even in the face of death, she always found a reason to be happy. I was now convinced... that I was that reason.

The following days I made sure to make the most out of the time we spent together. We played checkers —that was Jamie’s favorite game—, we read the Bible together, and I even sang to her before she went to sleep, even though I was so bad that she probably ended up having nightmares. I’d like to think that I was helping her live a little longer.
Unfortunately, that feeling was very short-lived.

Two weeks later, Jamie fell into a coma. The doctors didn’t think she would make it. Frankly, I didn’t either. Jamie looked so frail these last few days; I thought she’d snuff out any time now. Occasionally she reacted to our presence by moving her head slightly, but she wouldn’t regain consciousness. Somehow, I knew this was it. She was slowly withering away in my arms.

They say that when people are about to die, they seemingly go through a spontaneous recovery, only to die a day or two later. A sort of last chance to say goodbye to friends and family, if you will.

When Jamie suddenly woke up from her coma, I could tell her time was up. The doctors said it was a ‘miraculous recovery’. I say it was her final moment, the light at the end of her tunnel. When I looked at her, she was sitting upright on her bed, a brilliant smile on her face.

“Hello, Landon! It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?” – Jamie said cheerily.

“So, how are you feeling?”, I said.

“I feel... at peace. I feel like I don’t have a care in the world, because I know I’ll be all right in the end, thanks to the Lord... and you.”

Jamie giggled slightly after saying this. She held my hand, and I held hers. The next thing we knew, we were kissing for what appeared to be an eternity. It was as if time literally stopped for us.

“Landon... I... love you... “

“I love you too, Jamie... Always.”

As soon as we said that, she lost consciousness. Her weakened heart had stopped. The sound of her flatline echoed in my head. Jamie Sullivan was gone... forever. Yet I knew that somehow, she would live on in my heart. Whenever I took a stroll down the street at sunset, I will always remember... that I, Landon Carter, still love Jamie Sullivan.
