After watching this youtube video I had a thought - a true 2p DKC mode (none of this swapping around) could be incredibly interesting.

That being said I'm aware of the frightening amount of ASM it would involve. :/ But the foundations are there.

Just a cute little ASM hack. This one's for your ears, not your eyes.

The term "Valkyrie" can not tip everybody off.

In the same way that "Explosive" won't tip people off that something is dangerous?

I haven't been in any serious fights, but I did get mugged once when a group of five punk kids jumped out of a car and tried to steal my cash.

Probably could have taken them all one on one, but in a 5v1 when I'm still drunk - not a chance in hell. Ended up with a few bruises and a cracked tooth. :/

I'm pretty sure Missingno uses the call... sound... thing of that one, though

From memory, Missingno had a Nidorino's call in RBY.

And I think neither are particularly better than the other. You should make one the male sprite and the other the female sprite

It's amazing how good Pokemon is for wasting time on the tedious hour of busriding I need to do twice a day at present.

Unfortunately, I'm now up to that tedious stage where you realise that because you raised a rounded team you're about 20 levels too weak to touch the E4. ;

Wow, that sucks. Did you have much money on you?

Nah, I was kind of lucky in that respect. I'd been out boozing all night and all I had left was a handful of shrapnel. They got kind of pissed when I handed them my change.

Odd because the levels of the E4 are actually lower than DP.

It's more a fact that the first guy has a level of like 48 and the last one has level of like 65. ;

Rounded teams are always underlevelled in-game, and the only reason I didn't have an issue in Pearl was because about half my team was starters traded off the GTS so they were growing crazyfast. My current Platinum team is all my trainer's pokemon so growing is slow.

If you don't play multiplayer pokemon, there's no true reason to get more than one of any version of any gen of pokemon, ever. With exception of getting one of RSE and one of FrLg in Gen 3 because they're actually "different" games. If you didn't already own pearl I'd say go buy Platinum first off, but there's no reason whatsoever to buy Platinum if you're finding Pearl as it is offering nothing new. Of course, my personal feeling is that the best approach is to buy one and then borrow/pirate the others for Pokemon.

I do actually agree, the art direction for most of the pokemon are on an average downhill slide, with far too many of the new pokemon looking like 1995 digimon rejects rather than crazy weird animals. That being said, a lot of the new pokemon do cool things in battle and are lots of fun to use.

I actually enjoyed Gen 2's story the best (I refuse give any of the pokemon games the credit of having a plot.) because it wasn't just all 'I am super-evil guy with a vision of a new world of crime/rocks/water/space' and it worked really well as a direct sequel to RBY, showing the changes over three years. Plus the traditional japanese theming everywhere gave the whole game a nice feel that the other games lack, although the Sevii Islands did it well.

As a sidenote, I am slowly grinding up my team to take the E4. I think an average team Level of 55 should cope fine as that is my goal, or at the very least far, far better than an average team level of 46. I'm currently at 50.

I might also throw in the PBR Electivire that I have. But as they all have the same nature, I'm going to go investigate the IVs compared to the one I downloaded to pearl and keep the good one to probably replace Ampharos on my ailing 2v2 team, which was in turn a 3rd gen 1v1 import team with slight tweaks.

I don't care what you say, Dragonite is still awesome.

Huh, Daily Cycle is just Fragmentation with a shifting colourset.

Still, I like them both, so best of both worlds.

The sad fact of the matter is, you won't see many RPG game hacks that exploit what's available sufficiently and are good.

The thing is, producing a complete hack of an RPG requires a lot of work compared to most other genres. For another example, look at Pokemon - one of the most wildly popular games, tools out of the wazoo, probably the most documented games out there next to Super Mario Bros and Mario World, yet there's probably less than five hacks out there worth actually playing.

Hacking platformers (the most popular hack genre, it seems) is because 99% of the required work to produce something good goes down to designing just one aspect - the levels. And not just that, but small, discrete levels. Super Metroid is a notch up in the design requirement (and while relatively less popular than mario) it has less hacks due to the amount of design work and planning required. In an RPG you have to design more than just the worlds, you have to design characters, write a script, write in-game scripting, design enemies, bosses, etc.

There's a lot more work involved and it is a rare breed of person who is good at all aspects of designing a game. Group hacks often fail due to politics. It's even rarer to get a person who is skilled at all these areas/group of such and has the motivation to produce a full hack with it.

I'd personally expect to see two, maybe three worthwhile full SMRPG hacks in the lifetime of the editor along with a multitude of small ones like hardtype, balance, challenge dungeon hacks, etc.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (FE11) (DS)

An awesome series with so much potential...

It's a shame that IS used absolutely none of that potential with FEDS. God that game sucked. :/

Another game I think that could really use a level editor? Blast Corps! Design a city then blow it up!

For the benefit of anyone who wants it, this little assembly hack is an aid for anyone wanting to hack AW2. It uses AW2 (U) and assumes a clean ROM (use this patch to remove an intro)

It's a modification to the way stats are called in the game that now allows you to edit each one independently on a per-unit basis instead of modifying the game's pre-set unit classes. It basically removes a lot of limitations at the cost of taking up a lot more space (But when you barely use 6mb out of 8, meh.)

IPS Patch

Now there's no rules about stat combinations when hacking in AW2. Each unit can now have it's own unique set of firepower, defence, movement and range stats under D2D, COP and SCOP conditions for every CO.

CO Data starts at 0x619750 in the ROM. There is an entry for every single unit in the game, including the dummy units + 1 buffer to keep the arrays aligned nice. ASCII Labels for your convenience. The game now ignores any of the pointers to CO Stats in the CO Data and just uses this format.

I copied the CO stats painstakingly by hand. Tell me if I typo'd anything or you find any bugs.

Edit:
As an update, I have compiled a Nightmare 2.0 Module for the Edited CO Tables. You can find the module file here.
