Very spiffy!

Now if only I was motivated to properly hack any game apart from AW2, this'd be tons of fun rather than just random screwing around.

Ooooh Super Famicom Wars, and then a more strategic approach. Me likes and wants ^^

You'll be pleased to hear then that I intend to bring back the Artillery Train.

Goddamn I love trains.

Hmm, some (rough) plans about it woudl be nice.

Well, the hack is to be reasonably ambitious, but it'll take a while as I'm doing bits and pieces in between final year university.

Here's what I plan for, in brief. And yes I am being reasonably vague (because whether it will end up as described here is another matter entirely)

Campaign
-All new campaign, new characters. Designed to be challenging. More basic actual maps and less emphasis on crazy gizmos like the AW2 and onwards campaigns.
-Hard campaign is to be played from the opposing side.
The campaign is being written by a friend of mine, so yeah.

Units
-Some old, some very new and some original units will be combined together to make a unique metagame
-New rules for unit classes. Capital ships for example (Battleships, Carriers) will not lose damage as they lose HP.
-A new damage formula

COs
-A whole new cast of 10-15 COs
-New Day to Day Skill Vs. CO Power system
-Unique unit sets for most COs

Properties and Terrain
-Unit deployment from the HQ
-Pipes being converted into Rails, to design interesting new maps

Economy
-Won't be as simple as AW, you'll have to weigh out the costs of expansion and unit maintenance compared to fielding a sizeable army or conquering your enemy.

So this means that spamming mech infantry won't be as easy to pull off?

It never was, really.

I haven't actually had a chance to play this yet, so what I'm really curious about is Battle Mode.

Every Mario Kart after MK64 had absolute trash of a battle mode and I'm wondering if it's any good now.

That jumping from ring block to ring block looks tedious. :|

The background is quite bland, and the constant flipping looks a little odd but it's good nonetheless.

WIP Map for Gaia Heights (Crateria). Not all of the blue rooms are completed, I only have the map layout for those rooms done. There are also rooms that aren't shown on the map.

Seeing as it got skipped over in favor of discussion of Rockman's hack, I'm reposting this to hopefully get a comment or two.

Well, in all honesty there's only so much you can say about a map screenshot. Apart from that it does look like it goes high.

That being said, I hope you're going to make the difficulty comfortable rather than tedious.

Looks nice, but you guys should be extremely careful with your spelling and grammar on such a text heavy hack as this. I've noted the errors I've seen in the dialogue here.

bigthingshere: 'refreshments' is spelt incorrectly
crazyshithappening: fire should not be capitalised
cronospissed: Should be a question mark, not an exclamation mark.

I really still haven't reconciled myself with very many of the pokemon beyond the GSC Era.

They're all just weird, for the most part and I find I like very few of them as entities. Sure they might win battles, but I just don't like them.

GSC, despite being the slowest metagame (Great Stalling Contest) and the slowest actual game before DP came out, I thought it had the single player 'play by yourself' done the best. RBY just felt too rough around the edges, while Hoenn in Sapphire irked me. Johto was quite fun to explore, and despite how stripped down Kanto was, it was there and free to explore. It gave the game a feeling of 'largeness' that none of the pokemon games since have really had (Although Fire Red/Leaf Green certainly tried).

The only game I've truly enjoyed in the Pokemon series since Silver/Crystal has been Pokemon Colosseum, strangely enough.

Is it possible to play a one vs. one vs. one vs. one like in the N64 version or is Online Battle Mode limited to team battles?

All battles are team.

Wait, what?

That's awful!

I don't understand the thinking that made Team Battle forced. What about 3p? ;

This is just a short video showing off some of the assembly hacks I'd mentioned earlier. (And probably one or two you might not have seen).

There's 4 hacks shown off here, see if you can spot them all.

That's it, seriously. I don't have time for much. :/

Need to play/finish playing at some point
Baten Kaitos
Metroid Prime 3
FFCC: Rings of Fate
Geometry Wars Galaxies
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Smash Football
Team Fortress 2, with all those fancy new updates

Yeah, I know.

Yeah, one of the guys over at WWN got me interested in the idea of looking into an AW game other than Advance Wars 2.

So, I put together this, because Gip couldn't find the CO stats.

AW DoR CO Format

And a (very) quick and dirty editor in Java with my basically borderline useless Java Skills. (This'll edit the US Rom only, and doesn't do anything regarding checking for right roms, or resizing of windows or whatever as I don't know how to do those things.

Editor
Pic of said dodgy editor

Have fun.

Okay, I've got a few quick questions as I'm replacing music for a hack I'm working on and I thought I'd ask the couple of people who know way too much about this before spending some time digging.

1) How can you change the default tempo of a song, what bytes do I need to edit in either the exported track data or the ROM to change the speed?

2) I've noticed that when inserting songs that have a large amount of tracks (Mostly some midis assembled to songs) that they'll play completely in Sappy, but in-game some of the tracks are not playing. What's the limit to the tracks that can play for a song?

Awesome, thanks.

One final question, how can I get Midis to loop?

My suggestion?

Start with a game you like.

(Also, GBA hacking is pretty easy to get started with, too)
