For events, you can look here: Fraxy Events

If you want a vertical scrolling environment, then a Try would probably be your best bet.

As for A70M1C's issue, you can try deleting the fraxy.cfg and then redo the config settings. That may fix the problem.

Custom Weapons
By custom player-parts, I mean designs made with either Actual parts attached to the player, designs with effector-Player bullet, or both

You mean stuff like Zarro's options and Ebo's bomb? If so, then that page is where they can go.

Woah! I'm surprised that I won something. Appreciate it that someone thinks I'm a down to Earth kinda guy, maybe I should write more stuff in Debate. =)

Like the metal graphics and Kawa/Cynthia's little award ceremony. Congrats to everyone else!

An extra parameters tutorial would be nice. It’s such a pain to figure out what all 17 of them do.

There is one: Extra Parameters Reference Page

It is located under the Reference Index on the Wiki.

Here we go with even more shmups! At this rate, the thread may have to be renamed as "free, downloadable shmups"... Anywho, here we go!

Here we have Hydorah, a nice, comprehensive, and challenging shmup that makes tribute to all of the classics and then some. The idea is your traditional affair, blow stuff up, get powerups, blow up more stuff, etc. but it is a fun ride. After being a stage you get a new weapon which you can select at the beginning of a stage. There are several small branching paths to go through as the game progresses and adds some good playability to it.

Ok, so this next one isn't a shmup strictly speaking but I'm sure that everyone has heard about this one. Super Mario Crossover, the game that lets you play SMB using a wide variety of characters, including soon-to-be new addition Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. This particular link lets you download the game and play it anytime (it's in the paragraph at the bottom of the page). Go and play!

So yeah, I decided to get on the bandwagon and create a custom layout for myself here. Using one of the Fraxy backgrounds and some other standard stuff, I think it's good enough for now. Also, I thank Kawa and Paul for it as well. =)

Update: Yeah... I think I screwed something up somewhere. Some of my older posts are coming out with the incorrect background and also the text is italics when it shouldn't be. =S

Update2: I took it out. It's located here: http://acmlm.kafuka.org:81/uploader/get.php?id=3223

Hmmm, this is indeed an interesting situation. I think the question we have to ask ourselves is "Why are we not adding new content to the board? Is that not the purpose of this place? What is missing?" I was guessing that it was simply because everyone is out of classes and they are either on vacation, working most of the day, or in general just bored out of their minds to post anything of significance. I know that at least from a Fraxy standpoint this seems to be the case as there has been very little activity anywhere (board2, UFF, Academy, and YouTube). Even a new version has yet to be released since March...

Enough though about that. It also doesn't help things that IRC satisfies the role of instant gratification discussions, generally things that may or may not be worthy enough to be posted as a thread either due to the quality of content and/or it would be a bit too inconvenient to communicate in an effective manner. Would this and IRC change the role of what a discussion board like board2 fulfills now? I'm guessing this is the question BH is trying to answer.

I do have some semi-unrelated questions though:

1) I know that old post bumping is not encouraged but are there some cases where it might be considered such as topics created by a user posting a user's content and topic important sticky threads?

2) Is there a list or something somewhere in board2 that shows all of the tags and things a user can do when they post like YouTube tags and the like?

That's pretty good if not a tad morbid. The constant theme of the needing to learn reminds me of my philosophy classes, specifically the talks on Socrates and his discussion on the concept of learning and how we come to first begin to learn as newborns.

I do not know all of the players on that particular topic, but the ideas are this:

1) You begin to learn (recollect as Socrates states) as soon as you are born.

2) You begin to learn some time later, say 2-3 months at least.

Anywho I digress. That writing is a nice and short description of life. Good job.

Well no, not exactly... =)

Think of this more as a methodology contest as opposed to mundane homework. Basically, questions/tasks are asked that are designed in such a way that they can have multiple answers, those answers being a creation demonstrating the requested result. Those creations that are verified as being "correct" are rewarded based on the efficiency of the answer.

As to what the prize(s) will be, the duration of the contest(s), and who will manage the questions and answers, that is still up in the air.

If you have any additional things you want to add to this concept, please don't hesitate to post your ideas here!

So yeah... wow have I been really behind...

Anywho, I have yet another new idea going and not just for new creations.

After examining how I go about making (and not fully finishing) concepts, I have decided that I need to manage my ideas better. I am going to use some free project managing program to post my idea concepts in a way that hopefully will be understood by others yet not give away the total creation. The only issue I guess would be the fact that the files are .pdf, if that means anything to anyone.

Here is an example of what I mean (and the thing I'm working on currently): Latest Concept

Oh yes, if this counts as a bump, then I am sorry...

Sorry, it doesn't ring a bell for me. =(

One of the first games I had with my NES, and was also one of my most influential shmup games, was Image Fight. I played that so many times and I eventually beat it without continuing. Never completed the second loop though because I was afraid my NES would overheat.

Does anyone remember a dos game where you control 3 different guys (All at once), each with different guns, in an over head shoot em up game, I can't remember the name of it anymore.

It was originally on the Night owl BBS. (A long long time ago).

It was for DOS.

Anyone remember the name/own it?

I can't really remember much more than that.

You controlled all three guys at once.

(It was meant for three players, but, you could do it with 1.)

Well, I'm not sure what it's called but I think this may be able to help you if you're willing to dig a lot. I found an old Galaga clone on here that I used to play a lot.

The Night Owl BBS Collection (1990-1996)

Oh geez, SNES music... Where do I start?

So many shmups on the SNES, so much good music for them.

Well, here are two I can readily get:

Axelay - Stage 3 (Mother)

I just love this music! It has the right tone for the setting and it's just pleasing to my ears. A good bit of the Axelay music is great overall but this is one that really stands out for me.

Super E.D.F. - Stage 4 (Sunlit A Colony)

Ah Super E.D.F.... Many would consider it an alright, middle line shmup that is forgettable, but I really enjoy it. The SNES version has some changes compared to the Arcade version, such as this stage which was added. It just like the song above just fits the stage well and I really enjoy it.

Way to go rox! Shmup love all the way, especially Thunder Force IV.

Since rox put all of those good songs up, I have to settle for some other things.

Outrun 2019 - Feel The Beat

This is the best song in the whole game.

Sonic 2 - Aquatic Ruin Zone

I really liked this stage music, it just felt good to me.

Granada - Stage 7 (Take A Chance)

A lot of the music in Granada is really good, this one is perhaps the best stage one.

Langrisser II - Knight's Errand

I really liked this battle theme, very upbeat and gets you moving.

I wish there was a Mega CD/Sega CD music thread, there's a few that I would put in there too...

Good lord there are a ton of commercials out there, some good and some not so good. Nonetheless, there are a few that bring back oh so good memories. Post some of those commercials that you remember and share your nostalgia with everyone!

----

I was looking for this Wrigley's Spearmint commercial for ages! One of my friends had it on a Beta tape and we could not stop laughing over it.

Now if I can only find that marijuana PSA commercial...

Ok then! Let's start this thing!

Problem 1:

Make a creation that glides along a web-like structure and reacts to your distance from it. The web should not hurt the player.

Yes, that's absolutely correct! MORE SHMUPS!

All of these are by one Linley Henzell and all are made using the Allegro gaming language, which is based in C. I'm not completely sure if these will all run in Linux or Macs but definitely Windows.

Each game has its own unique style. Two of the games, Excellent Bifurcation and Garden of Coloured Lights were both entries during the Shmup-Dev contest in different categories. My personal favorite is White Butterfly, which is more traditional but still a hack of a lot of fun. Check them out!

Also, as per the good nature of the site, Linley was nice enough to leave a copy of the source code for a few of the games. =)

Oh, if you really want your head to spin, play Excellent Bifurcation. Can you multitask?
