Good lord, that thing's insane! I like what you did with the second part, at least the design of the ship. The bullet spam was way over the top, reminded me of Mushihime-sama Futari + ChoRenSha.

Time for more freeware shmup love!

Galactic Arms Race - I talked about this one in the Fraxy section, so this will be a more general description. Essentially this game is an experiment on artificial evolutionary concepts. The game itself generates new weapon patterns to use based on which of the current weapons you use and also if you keep or sell any new ones. Over successive evolutions, the new weapons will change to more of what you would prefer to use. It's an innovative concept and worth checking out.

Xeno Fighters EX-R - Do you remember the Raiden Fighters games? Well this game takes that idea and adds much more. Boasting an impressive amount of fighters to use from all spectrum of shmups, you are sure to get your fill of the love. It's not complete yet, but the beta that's available has a lot of stuff. There is also a Wiki for it: Xeno Fighters EX-R Wiki

Hello and welcome!

In order to get fixed mode, open Config.exe and go to the Free Play tab. At the bottom there should be a checkbox that says Area Fixed, check that. Also, if you want the ship to always face straight, go to the Input tab and change Control Mode to Keyboard 2.

Be sure to run Config.exe at least once before playing as this sets configurations needed for the other parts.

As for the blank screen do you mean you loaded a boss and nothing shows up?

First, look at the top left of the Edit Window and see if Part Count is greater than 0. If so, look at the Tools section and click the button "inivsi". Alternately, you can hover your mouse around the screen and any hidden parts will glow.

Someone tested it with Windows 7 and confirmed that the Editor worked (all the sub menus appeared). However they also stated that Aero was off. Perhaps having Aero off will solve the problem?

Although most likely unrelated, La-Mulana also has been reported with having problems with Aero.

From La-Mulana Wiki:

Windows 7 does not handle paletted games very well in fullscreen mode and will corrupt the color palette. There have also been transparency issues reported that may be linked to it but may be caused by Aero.

First try disabling Aero since if it enabled to see if it fixes transparency issues.

Ok folks here's the deal.

I have a boss here that's essentially a shell. It has some fancy, quick attack but it's generally lacking. So I'm putting you creators and idea thinkers to task.

What do I want? Simple.

Give me ideas for stuff to add or even better, grab the boss and do it yourself! All I want is for me to see the end result and see how much creativity you people really have. If you have to deconstruct it and put it back together? Not a problem. Wanna make some cosmetic changes? If within reason, sure go for it. Just do SOMETHING! XD

I want to hear others ideas, I want you to discuss and challenge others' ideas, I want dialogue on it, I want to see what you're really capable of doing. Is this a challenge to the community? Absolutely.

The Boss:
Download it!

It's Ugly Mug:

Have fun! I expect results. =)

Hmmm, interesting concept. It's very hard to break the shield but the disappearing armor is a good implementation.

Ok, now that is one idea. There needs to be others! Discuss these ideas and create modifications of them!

I think we need to come up with a good nickname for you. Your bosses are really unique and seem to have soul or something. It could also be I like a lot of colors. Regardless, keep it up!

Sorry for the lateness of this post but... still incredible work sir. You like to think large, don't you? Please continue to make these epically large and shmup tribute-ridden bosses!

Well, there is the YouTube preview of it...

Even though it's not very long, it does show off some of it's potential. I hope that these games become wide-spread as I would enjoy seeing these concepts used in future games (especially shmups).

I can imagine it now. There is a infamous shump called Zanac made by a now extinct company called Compile. Zanac was noteworthy due to the way the AI dealt with you. As you collected weapons, fired shots, and destroyed stuff, the AI would send out enemies that would be able to counteract your current weapon, for example the Shield (number 2). If you equipped that, the AI would go insane and send out tons of enemies just to break it down. If you were more aggressive, it would be more aggressive in return. Add these two systems together and it's almost nirvana, even if it gets a tad complex (that never hurt anybody anyway!).

Shame Fraxy can't do that yet, but I'm confident that someday it will. Of course, this topic is for implementing complex and interesting weapon and boss patterns using what we've got now.

Filling in the gaps:

MUGEN I believe

The Black Heart

-----

Ok, time for something that's not a shump.

Mega Man has had his fair share of games but have you ever wanted to play as someone else? Sure!

Well, here are some Mega Man based games where you don't play as Mega Man or X or Zero or any of the regular good guys!

The Hard Hat series - As the name implies, you play as the little, nigh-indestructible Metool in a role similar to Mega Man. Blow up bosses, get weapons, blow up more stuff, you get the idea. All of the games have some sort of secret and codes to make things interesting.

Star Man - Yes, this is Star Man from Mega Man 5. The premise of the game is to prove yourself in light of a new generation of robot masters, mainly the ones from Mega Man 5 GB. It's an interesting game as you have to use the mechanics of Star Man's weapon to get through the game. This one is in the style of the Game Boy.

Star Man Upgraded - Essentially the same as Star Man except upgraded to NES-like graphics and a few additional improvements.

Sorry to hear that and I wish you well. Hopefully you'll return, everyone needs a break once in a while. =)

Also, feel free to ignore any idiots that have a poor sense of taste and are generally nonconstructive. Just don't get emo over it and all will be well.

You know, I look at your creations and those of Zarrotsu, oomagatuhi, Vortexreaper, AzeVenom, and AlexMdle and I think there needs to be an adjustment in the Custom Weapons page on the Wiki. Originally this was meant for creation weapons but now, new player weapons are available. I think they should be added as well.

Although technically unrelated to Ebo's boss thread (sorry, Ebo!), the suggestion has been taken to heart and completed. The custom weapons are now segregated.

-With the event of "player based weapons", the Custom Weapons page has been adjusted to accommodate customized player weapons both Defensive and Offensive types. These weapons should be relatively easy to add into creations.

Actually, yes (not that you're blind or anything)... XD

Assuming you are using the latest version, that is v20100113beta, you can activate 401 Mode via the Config menu. Under the FreePlay tab you'll find a checkbox called Area Fixed Mode. Be sure that's checked off as that's 401 Mode.

If you're looking for the Try, then open up the main game and go to the Try section, it's listed as 401.

You can get the latest version of Fraxy here, just in case: Fraxy Main Page

Welcome and enjoy!

I think I got an error 20, though not today. To fix it, I modified the fraxy.cfg file, I think I changed the Window size to be smaller or something. Does this error appear immediately upon accessing Fraxy or as you choose creations?
