Just a quick question.

Is there a Secret of Mana editor available?

Awesome!

I can't wait to try this out when it's done.

Is the Assembly tab for inserting ASM hacks? I suppose you could use xkas for that, but I know editors like Hyrule Magic have one built in, which is kind of nice.

Also, will there be any way to edit player and NPC dialogue?

Nice.

So I assume it will support code for custom sprites and the like? Or will we at least be able to tweak the existing sprites in some manner?

Oh, sorry. When I say sprites, I mean custom coded sprites (enemies) using ASM to define behavior and such.

But still, that's very cool.

That's interesting that you can make a Rabite spawn different thing. I can't recall any color of Rabite being able to fire projectiles in the original game, so it must be programmed into each enemy.

That's beautiful, Math! Looks very useful. Will be a great tool to use along with Black Magic.

That Zelda 3 hack is looking amazing!

I hate that the Arc Nova forums are toast because I can't follow the progress of Black Magic. I hate Hyrule Magic because you have to work with 32x32 tiles, which is a real pain.

Been a while since I posted anything here, anyway there has been much progress in my Z3 hack since then... I'm now making the dungeons and pushing the envelope in terms of what I though I could do with them....

IMGs and VIDs

Man, that looks nice!

I've been wanting to start a Z3 hack for ever but I probably won't because I hate Hyrule Magic and it seems like Mathonnapkins has stopped working on Black Magic.

You might be right in hating HM, everybody does! It has quite a learning curve and always screws up your rom one way or another even if you're careful. Still I wish more people would dare hacking the game even so, because making rom backups can take care of 99% of the problems out there.

It's not really the corruption of the ROM as much as it is having to work with 32x32 tiles and other annoyances that aren't quite as big, but still make it a pain to use. I do a google search on Black Magic from time to time and never find anything, and haven't even seen any posts from MON in about 6 months. It's a shame that his forum got overrun by bots.

Anyhow.. I've work some more on the sky temple:

Is the hookshot invisible, or is that a youtube framerate issue?

It makes me happy to see this board here. All of your hard work is finally getting off the ground. Maybe someday soon we'll see a dedicated fan board for the editor and Mana hacking in general to sit amongst the likes of SMWcentral and that Metroid hacking board.

Now, if only MathOnNapkins could finish BlackMagic...

That's one way of looking at it. But it sure is nice to have everything for one game (patches, sprites, music, etc.) all sectionalized and compiled in one place. The situations with the forum side of SMWC are another story, though.

And, yes, Black magic was supposed to be an editor that would have made Zelda hacking much more enjoyable rather than wrestling with the frustration that is Hyrule Magic.

Man, seeing this only makes me want BlackMagic even more! I can't STAND HyruleMagic and won't even start a hack until there's a better editor. I have tons of respect for the people who have the patience to use HM, and even more for those who have actually finished a full hack with it.

I'd like to play around with the sprites in Super Bomberman 4 or 5 and swap them out with other sprites. Is there an editor available that will allow me to do this?

Thanks!

[edit]

Ok, I got YY-CHR to work with it (for some reason it was giving me trouble last night, but decided to play nice today.)

The part that's a real pain is editing the palettes. The options for palette editing tools for SNES are so antiquated and annoying to use, but I guess I'll have to deal with it unless someone has something else to suggest.

Very cool! With Somedit on a painfully slow and unsure schedule and BlackMagic seemingly all but dead, it's nice to see something promising pop up. Best wishes and I can't wait to try it out!
