I blame the lack of posting on my not np: Gang of Four: "I Love A Man in Uniform" Specifically, the Return the Gift version, which is miles ahead of the original. Mostly because it doesn't sound nearly as dated. It's a little odd when you remember that the backing vocals during the chorus were sung by women (it's the title), but, hey, that's actually part of why it doesn't sound so early-80's. This version's just live instruments with only a whiff of synth. Much more refreshing, although it could be that it sounds (if this makes sense) cold in a different way. Instead of white-boy disco, this version sounds a lot more live. Probably because the drums don't sound like hot buttered ass. (Fun fact: Their name doesn't refer to the Maoist Gang of Four, but the four main Structuralist theorists. WHO KNEW?) |

Gee, who didn't see that coming. Although it's safe to say it's no Emily's Reasons Why Not. |

(sigh) Good to see no one's jumping in to say it's a good idea after this thing's been debunked.
Although some of us basically have to drive ourselves... depending on public transportation's kind of out of the question when I have to cover games, and they're way too far to bike, walk, etc. Necessary evil yes? Maybe biodiesel's a good stopgap option. |

Posted by Xkeeper I still don't understand the point of doing that. I mean, once you've got it running Linux... what are you supposed to do with it? |

Only been once, in Seattle. Great it was. Although I will be fucked if I have to go all the way to Lawn Guyland to go to one out here. |

I just got a TomTom Go 510 (GPS navigation thang), and it is glorious. It'd be even better if I could feed it addresses from my iPaq (HP H5455). Anyone know if this is doable? Both devices have Bluetooth, so that's how I think it's possible. I was hoping I could set up an Excel spreadsheet and just have clickable links that'll send the address, in the right format, to the TomTom. (I've already set up a gigantic sheet for this at work, only it doesn't do the TomTom addresses, just Mapquest, Google, and Yahoo.) |

Posted by NightKevPosted by drjayphdIsn't there a website for the device ("http://tomtom.com" or something?) Well, yeah, but it says nothing on the subject. |

iamstillhiro? Tweaker? GET A ROOM.
As for the leak, hoo-fuckin'-ray. The real value's in having the physical prototype, not the contents thereof. So long as people are willing to pay out the ass for the proto, who gives a shit if the ROM gets dumped and leaked? It's not even like you could say anything better than "e-peener++" about having owned the prototype, at one point, and not letting the ROM out. Jesu Cristo, grow up and stop flexing nuts. |

Posted by Xkeeper Eh, it's not like the prototypes come with certificates of authenticity. Still, how many people out there own EPROM burners, can make fake carts, and would do so? As for the specialness... "e-peener++". Who would really worship you for hoarding it, as opposed to thinking you're a dick? |

Posted by NetSplit So it's more valuable, in part, because a group of people you'll never sell it to want it. Therein comes the "lording over everyone else", which brings us to "e-peener++". Posted by NetSplit I'd love to cut out the ad hominems here, but there's good points in here. No, the original owner didn't owe it to anyone to release the ROM. Sure, on a selfish level, I'm happy it got leaked, but I'm not going to say it was the right thing to do. Eh, maybe I'm the weird one for not collecting things that'll go down that far in value because someone let the contents free, but for (not exclusively) going for things that are already frolicking freely. That said, if you're going to tee off on anyone like that, take it to PM already. Or are we just going to sit here and open fire on someone because he happens to be there and he did something unpopular? |

Since I'm told that's what all the kids do nowadays, I'm still fairly buzzed right now and I'm posting. I wouldn't be if I didn't end up feeling like a cockblock at the end of the night, but this is going in General, not Anya's. (Also, I'm not using spell-check at all. Dunno what that says about me.)

The TomTom pushing? I thought we were talking about the iPaq pushing addresses. (shrug) Either way, I tried to connect them, and the iPaq said the TomTom didn't have any services the iPaq was interested in. Eh, at least I have an Excel file and can just punch stuff into the TomTom after looking it up.
NightKev: No forums. Asked their support team and I don't think they had a clue what I was asking. |
