Hello, novice rom hacker, intermediate programmer here.

I've always liked to hack ROMs, and since I got the knowledge of programming languages like Visual Basic and C#, I went here to see if I get some help in the hacking side I think I got the brains to code a simple level viewer for a simple game.

Anyways, I like the banner, it's funny.

I'm sure I've seen you around, what other boards do you go to? Welcome to board2 anyway, I hope you enjoy your stay.

I go to romhacking.net, but I'm not a member there. The only board I go to is gaiaonline.com where I spend like 90% of my online time

First let me give a brief introduction of me

I'm another one of those teenagers that loves to hack SMW with Lunar Magic, and I got basic experience in finding offsets in ROMs although, I'm not an awesome ASM hacker, not at all. Anyways, I know how to program in C# and Visual Basic (I prefer C#), and I can do slightly advanced things in both, I once made a simple enemy editor for Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, it could edit the HP of like three enemies I found and save them back to the ROM converted to hex. I can work with the picturebox object and do a lot of things with it.

Anyways, to really master the thing, one needs experience, and I'm not really sure with what game to begin with. Some tell me a NES game would be easy enough, others tell me SNES games are easier to edit, and I really have no idea which to edit. For a first time, I would prefer a game that has already been hacked enough and there are enough documents about how to hack it. Any such game? Documents I should read?

Thanks.

I don't have much knowledge in ROM hacking. I'm pretty sure jumping to the N64 isn't a good idea. Also, I couldn't find a NES game I'd feel comfortable hacking. How about GB/GBC games? I would attempt to hack a non-documented game if I were to find a good z80 ASM tutorial.

Yeah well, I was thinking on gameboy games instead. I already got a few documents ready on the ASM so, I guess I'll start with the gameboy.

Thanks for the suggestion everybody!

This looks good DahrkDaiz, I remember trying to use SMB3 Workshop once but I found a number of limitations. Will this handle ROM expanding, like to add more objects to levels and make longer levels?

I just hope there is an Undo function in the level editor, it has really bothered me in Lunar Magic...

I don't seed that much, because while my download speed gets to the 200kb/s, my upload never gets out of the 10s...

I once seeded one 3:1, it was a program, but I don't remember what. (it was like 40MB). But I hardly ever get it to 1, it takes way too long.

Cut, Copy, Paste, undo and redo will all be in this editor.

There will only be one way to expand/shrink levels and that's to start a "project". That would expand the rom and make add/removing more objects than what the original level had possible. Otherwise I would be force to reload every level and resave while redirecting all pointers to the changed levels and yeah, that's a pain...

This is awesome then, I really didn't liked how the SMB3 levels were extremely short.

Anyone else is disappointed by how light was Nintendo's E3 this year? I mean sure, Animal Crossing sounds good (and I might buy it), but they didn't announced anything big like another Mario platformer for the Wii or a new Zelda game, or Metroid. Nothing, just Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, the skateboard game and that's it. Wario Land sounds good too though, and I think a Pikmin 3 is coming.

I was seriously expecting a lot of big projects, considering how much they should be earning from the Wii's sales.

Are you excited or disappointed by Nintendo's E3 this year?

But I got straight As everywhere except Spanish. Where I think I got a B-

I'm getting advanced Spanish though, with literature, verb conjugations, poetry, etc...

Nintendo should just do what Capcom is doing, make an all new 8-bit Mario game. What would you rather see it in, the original SMB style, or the SMB3 style?

I would personally rather see a new 16 bit game.

Hmmm, an old-school sidescroller? If we're talking about the DS then yeah it'd probably be good. For the Wii I'd rather see another Super Paper Mario-like game or perhaps the Wario Land game that's coming.

If they're going to use old graphics I think the Yoshi's Island ones where awesome and could use some reusing

They should make a long game with sidescrolling levels and a story like Paper Mario (very deep), and perhaps add a level builder for gamers to experiment with, and then use the online features to do something like Brawl's custom level sharing.

Ok, so I just saw their offers and I really really liked them, but when I googled for reviews I got mixed reviews, some said it's horrible, others say it's awesome, but the problem is most of them are old reviews (from 2007) and I heard they updated their servers.

So, is SiteGround good or bad? In terms of server uptime and speed? And how good is it for bigger websites that get around 40K-50K hits per day? And finally is it ad-free, since you have to pay, I imagine there are no ads but they didn't mention anything.

Thanks.

And for some other content, uh, have fun in europe, home of the low gas prices.

You're kidding right? Europe's gas is quite a few times more expensive than in the US. (10 euros for a gallon of Diesel )

But yeah, I think if you like the cold, you might want to visit Iceland or Oslo, Norway. I've heard Iceland is beautiful, but I haven't gone there ...

Florence, Italy - Looks cool, I like the city a lot (you might want to consider Rome though )
Paris, France - You can't just go to Europe and not visit Paris!
Amsterdam, Netherlands - You should definitely see this city, it's awesome and beautiful!

According to Google, it's roughly five, i.e. $7.5.

Iceland reportedly has an exceptionally beautiful countryside, but is not really anywhere near the mainland.

Really? I was almost sure I read something about some protests in Spain and France because of the gas being extremely expensive. Maybe it was 10 dollars, not Euros

There are some pretty nice pics I found of Iceland:

Yes I know, my brother (way older and with children) tells me it's hard to be a strict parent and beat them up when they do a bad thing because your children can (if they know how to) simply call 911 and tell them you're abusing them and then you either go to jail or get ripped off your kids easily.

But I plan to be pretty strict with my children, I want them to grow to be someone important and not a drug addict with worthless friends living in the streets.
