That's pretty much what I was thinking. While it's a nice idea, unfortunately, I don't think that there's a need for it, or that it would receive the attention that it would need to be updated and worth the trouble.

The closest thing that already exists to what you're suggesting is Data Crystal. It used to be its own resource before Romhacking.net took it over. As it is, it seems as though even Data Crystal doesn't receive much attention, unfortunately.

We could always add information on there, and link and refer to it here on the board. However, their main focus is just on the game pages, primarily. There used to be pages for individual hacks and even users - there are actually still some floating around that they haven't even bothered to delete yet as per their most recent guidelines - but anymore, they can only be listed and referred to on the main page for their respective original games.

If you haven't registered at Romhacking.net yet, you might like to. Not that I'm trying to reduce your activity here at Board 2 by dividing it elsewhere, but again, Data Crystal is probably the closest thing that has already been around for many years, and features many pages that can help you get started with new ideas, and/or that can definitely be improved on. Since you currently have the motivation to develop such a wiki, perhaps you can look at one that is already established and is pretty much a close relative to Board 2.

Yes, I would believe so. It's one of the best places to submit your completed projects too, so you would likely be registering there sooner or later if you intend to finish something someday.

You're thinking about coding an NES emulator, though? Are you sure that you want to attempt such a large, in-depth project this early on?

Don't get me wrong; it'll be awesome if you can. It's just that you might want to start out with smaller projects, building knowledge and learning skills along the way that you can carry over to your future pursuits.

You also want to consider how your project would differ from resources that already exist. What would you attempt to do differently? Do you believe that people would have a use for a new NES emulator? Of course, you could always work on something primarily just to develop your skills, and you might never release it anyway (I know that some people code/program utilities but never actually end up releasing them, either because the utilities don't work out as intended, or they're never actually completed), but I would assume that you've been exploring your options recently with the intentions of eventually releasing whatever you work on.

I'm indifferent one way or another. All the banners that I've seen, and the one that's already there, look fine to me. If there's a way to apply multiple banners and have them swap similar to the "Points of Required Attention" when the page loads, then no one would have to choose just one.

I simply just said that it looks nice.

What exactly would represent this place, in your opinion? Something Mega Man related like what the previous graphics were showing? It might represent the majority of the active members in the ROM hacking section currently, but it still doesn't necessarily represent everyone, or everything.

When it comes down to it, the banner just enhances what is already here. It doesn't influence whether or not I come here, or how I feel about the board overall.

I have one other in mind, but I just don't know based on the size.
Out of curiosity, what was your other idea?

That's cool. I did happen to check out your Dailymotion channel since you mentioned it. It's unfortunate that you don't really want to upload to YouTube anymore, since there's a wider potential audience, but I can understand your decision, considering the audience really only just focuses on what YouTube shoves down their throats.

I don't really care for the extremely cold temperatures and conditions that come with winter, but it's nice to stay in sometimes.

That sounds like a nice option that would allow a user to further customize their profile's settings and environment, but how feasible would it be for blackhole89 to implement such a feature, would he consider it worth it, and how much more processing work for the board would it be?

People can have their opinions, but at the end of the day, do what makes you happy.

Generally, people can't be pleased either way. If you do your own thing, they'll believe that their way is better anyway. If you do the same thing, they'll call you a copycat. It's better not to care.

Like we touched upon before, I believe, with fewer videos available on Dailymotion, it should be easier to potentially get noticed. I don't have my own channel on there, but maybe someday I'll make one to give you an extra follower.

I've never bothered to look into it, but can't people make their own Wikis for free? You could always start an unofficial Board 2 Wiki, build it to a presentable state, and then see what people think and how they feel about it. If it seems like it'll work, I reckon that you would be able to work with blackhole89 to connect it with the board.

You can check your ROM's checksums in the HxD hex editor. It's a free program, and you do have to install it, but it's safe, and it has so many awesome features that I highly recommend it whenever I can. In fact, I mention it in the readme. Have you checked that yet?

The following instructions are taken from my Balloon Fight Level Hacking documentation.

After downloading the HxD hex editor:

- Open your ROM in the program.
- Under the Analysis menu, select Checksums.
- Under "Available algorithms", highlight all the checksums that you want to display. Hold down the left CTRL key to make single selections, or hold down the right SHIFT key to select a range.
- Select OK.

The correct checksums for the "Super Mario Bros. 3 (U) (PRG1) [!].nes" ROM are available on the hack's page and in the readme. Please refer to the information that's already available. If I can still help you with anything else that isn't already covered, please feel free to ask.

I'm not necessarily from the UK, but I've had other online friends from there.

I do have Nestopia v1.40, but again, I've never encountered that issue, thankfully.

May I ask, why don't you like Nestopia? Even Disch has commented on how accurate the emulator is.
Posted by "Disch"
Fortunately, emu devs realize the significance of accuracy, and as a result, we have emulators like NEStopia which are damn near flawless.
I've had a few homebrew ROMs and ROM hacks that haven't run in Nestopia over the years, but it pretty much comes down to the ROM files themselves, and not the emulator.

Well, personal preferences vary. Since you're into Donkey Kong at the moment, there were some NES Donkey Kong games. Have you ever played those?

Very nice! I noticed your Romhacking.net thread as well. Awesome work!

Are you planning to complete a Dragon Warrior II hack, or use this information to carry over knowledge and skills for another project?

Having the MAXIpic and user name as clickable just looks nice to me, so that's why I've been doing it when referencing users lately. You don't necessarily have to quote a post to reply to it if it's the last post, and you don't see all of what you call "garbage" otherwise. It also certainly doesn't have to be coded as a board feature, in my opinion, at least.

Overall, the board probably isn't active enough to warrant a whole bunch of new features. Not that it's up to me or that I'm speaking for anyone else.

Updated appearances might make some parts of the board look differently, but will it really benefit or influence activity levels at all?

Either way, the main idea for this thread was about Googie wanting to make a new border for the board. Even if everything still ends up being kept the same, at least it's generated a little activity, and people have been sharing some nice looking graphics for everyone to enjoy.

For anyone wondering where I was the last 2 weeks, I was finally able to get hired at a new job, at last. So, I've been a bit preoccupied.

For anyone celebrating it, I hope that you all have a safe and enjoyable Halloween experience! Don't eat too much candy!

I notice you criticise everything in your posts, but you have a point.
I await the day when heel turns face, only for the masses to want him to just revert back to heel again.

Are any of the levels changed, or is this just a graphical hack?
Personally, I wish that the descriptions of the last few hacks were more detailed. Are you intentionally trying to not say what the games are hacks of in order to make it seem more legitimate and thoroughly modified? I didn't even know what it was a hack of either, but unfortunately, it's because I didn't play the original Batman game.
As usual, your ideas for the directions of potential projects are different and promising in concept.
From the few screenshots provided, it looks interesting, but comparing to screenshots of the original game, it looks like quite a few graphics haven't even been touched.
I can recognize the one sprite graphic is just a rip from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
How much is even changed, let alone completely original, and for a $40 price?

If things are going to take any sort of serious turn, I don't think all ROM hacks should be placed in the crosshairs as a result of pacnsacdave being the first target, and apparently, culprit.
Someone just let a member of staff like ninjablooper know that you have a concern, and an appropriate action can be taken without needing to become a bigger issue.

Or, pacnsacdave, you can just make all your ROM hacks available as patches, and maybe people won't care as much that you're trying to sell copyrighted material, since it won't be as emphasized. I remember in the past when staff determined that you shouldn't advertise your main site since full ROM files were available there at the time, so perhaps you shouldn't advertise your reproduction sites, either.
Or, better yet, just don't do it.
Make ROM hacks for fun and because you want to bring new life to our favourite classic games, without feeling like you deserve to be compensated for building on the original creations of other people.
If you truly need money so bad, you should get a legitimate job like all of us other hardworking and honest people!
In case you finally do respond to one of your threads, just remember that I've always tried to approach this fairly and not harshly. However, I'm developing doubts that I should have even bothered to try as such, since things have come to this point already.

I plan to try out the latest demo right now!
Sorry that I was gone the last couple weeks as well. I'll try to catch up with all your progress so far and see if there's anything that I can still help out with, if I'm able.
